What's the first thing you did when you got out?
by fallen_princess ini was thinking about all the things i missed out on growing up as a jw.
many of those things i will never be able to do anyway, like join in any extracurriular activities or go to senior prom.
but one of the first things i did when i got out if the borg was join a ballroom dance class and go to a nightclub with some of the students in the class.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Midweek Night
by Simon Morley ini notice how periodically the wt and/or awake!
portray inactive jw's as selfishly spending their time washing their ferarri's on a saturday morning or jetting off, excutive class, to cabo san lucas.... since leaving what have you done with your time?
it would be nice for new and/or lurkers see that we are not all involved in some bacchanalian activity.. i have volunteered for a couple of not-for-profit charity boards and joined a volunteer group that helps people with english and math.

I have been in college earning an AA and now a BA. Having fun with my children, yes, amusement parks, Disney World, Busch, Sea World. Bowling on Sunday mornings because it is cheaper. Occasionally traveling, sometimes working. And yes, I do volunteer locally when I never did as a JW.
Of course, right after I left there were some Sunday mornings that I was recovering from the night before. What can I say, I was 25 and tired of being a good girl. But no drugs, except alcohol.

Yes, just thinking about how all those Dubs won't go because the Smurfs are possessed! It was hilarious back then and it is still hilarious. I always loved the story about the kid who took one in on a Sunday morning and the Smurf doll got up and walked out of the KH. But no I will not be going to see the movie. My ex husband's nickname was Smurf and that is the reason I stay away from them.

I spent sometime with a fellow ex JW yesterday. We had grown up in the same congregation and left within a few years ago. She referred to it as "The Truth." I quickly said that in no way was it "The Truth." I think of all the exes I grew up with, I am the only one who has done the research and can see that it isn't "The Truth." Of the 4 of us who were in the same graduating class, 3 have left and one is wishy-washy.
Do you ever refer to it as "The Truth"? And why?

To Dissassociate or just Fade into Inactivity ? Your Choice ? Reasons ?
by flipper inthis has been asked before, however i thought it may be good for newer members of the board to read some of our reasons on how we decided to exit the jw cult and why we decided to do it the way we did.. first off - i have been faded for almost 8 years.
essentially i decided to fade into inactivity and not da because i have elderly jw parents who would shun me if i did get dfed or daed myself.
also- i like keeping open the possibilities that some of my many jw relatives may in time start doubting and have questions and reach out to me in my inactive state.

I started to fade in 1991 but got called out by my mom who contacted the elders. So I decided I would DA. BTW I was a 25 year old virgin and planned it so my letter was in before I was no longer a virgin. I quit because I wasn't going to be a hypocrite like I had seen so many others be.
Basically other than my father's memorial in January, I haven't been back.

Thanks for your support JWN!!! Dad dies monday, JW family goes to convention on thursday
by Coffee House Girl incoffee shop guy directed me to his thread...thank you so much everyone for your thoughts of support, it means a lot to have people who understand and show genuine sympathy.
here's my experience so far.... my father dies monday night & my brother (nonjw) calls me to come home, when i arrive my father is still sitting on the couch- all the jw family is sitting in a semi-circle around him, my non jw brother is standing in the next room.
no one is crying, no one is talking.

I,m so sorry about your loss.
My father passed back in January and I did the memorial service, brought a couple close friends and my son. Your father sounds quite different form mine. It was all I could do not to stand up and tell the elder who the F did he think he was talking about? My father, a loving parent and husband? Too many times I had bruises, my mother had bruises, my sister's glasses were broken, I could go on, but we have all heard it before. Yes, it was a dog and pony show. But I went, did my duty and have a clear conscience.

Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show
Meatloaf for Dinner again.
Sex, Drugs, Rock n Roll, Rocky Horror Picture Show
Yeah, my first midnight showing was when I was still in the Borg but on my way out. Most likely 1989-90. Good times and good friends.

Since sex is major part of his lyrics, I would say JWs are urged to stay away. As a child of the 70s, I remember 2 out of 3, but not Paradise by the Dashboard Lights. My uncle, who went to Bethel, had quite a cassette tape collection, including Boston, Styx, etc. I don't remember him having Bat out of Hell. I do remember all the craziness about Queen and backward masking on Other One Bites the Dust.
Ah, the joys of listening to what you want and singing along at the top of your voice all those words you had to change, like Jim Croce's Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, baddest man in the whole DAMN town.

I was there about 4 weeks ago. I had a blast taking my friend from Akron to the ROck n Roll HOF, Westside market, Lola's, etc. But I am back home in Forida now.

I joined a meetup group in 2009. I still attend when I can. We have made a point to make sure new religons are not discussed. It is now a yahoo group due to the cost of Meetup. First Saturday of the month at Panera Bread in Tarpon Springs, FL at 10 am.
