fresh off the recent 1-day elders school.

Ethos, every situation does require professional help. I know because at one low point in my life I was sucidal. I can HONESTLY say that some "elders" reading a couple verses from Job wouldn't have helped at all. When a person is in that situation they need professional mental help. You don't just "snap" out of it and decide to go get cookies. The WTS is not properly educated at all about mental health (or physical health for that matter). It is rude and insensitive for anyone to just feel that reading a few Bible verses will help. I urge anyone who is having any thoughts like that to seek help.

i'm not sure where this thought came from (believers will no doubt say 'from satan'), but it has started to coalesce in my brain lately.

i've often referred to the bible and argued from it to debunk jw beliefs, and still tried to consider it as a great piece of literature at the very least.

but as my wife was listening to the meeting on a loud speaker phone at home this weekend, i just had this thought.

Well put. It's exactly how I feel. The Bible is wonderful literature especially when it's not looked at devotionally. Reading Bart Ehrham book "God's Problem" sealed the deal for me.

What's the most insensitive thing you have been told while grieving?

a few years ago my 21 yr old firstborn and only son died in an accident.

i was an active jw at the time.

in fact , i was at the meeting when it happened.

@AvacodoJake....I think my father can take your aunt. He is truly the most selfish, manipulative and ignorant man I know. I guess these are perfect qualifications for being an Elder.

My mother passed away 5 years ago this month on the 28th. I am not a JW and at the memorial service everyone made it a point to try and catch up with me since I had very sparingly attended meetings since I left home. One "sister" says to me : ***** would be so happy to see you here!" Another said to me: "Well, you know what you need to do to be able to see her again. Get to it!"She then kept calling my fathers house and offering me a study.

These so-called Christians have no sense. None.

i believe that hell is separation from god, not being able to benefit from his protection and loving guidance.

JWs preparing for some "Special Top Secret Meeting" does anyone knows about this?

i was talking to one of my jw ex-friends today (we keep in contact every once in a while) and she was all excited telling me about the new arregment, a special meeting only for elders, their wives, pioneers and other sheep of "exemplary" conduct... (of course she was invited)..... something about one meeting from bethel that is going to be broadcasted to everyone at assembly halls and translated via radio for those who cannot speak english... is by invitation only (and they are "being discreet w the invitations to avoid offend the ones not invited") and they even gave them tickets they have to present at the door..... anyone has the scoop??

Right Heartofaboy, I know my dad was invited and he is not a good or godly person. Not even the local JW's like him. They tolerate him.

Lining up to kiss the bride is not allowed. Watchtower Question from Readers.

many, if not all, of the witness weddings i attended in the last few years had the 'tradition' of the bride and groom and members of the wedding party lined up to greet the guests into the reception room.. it was also a faily common practice to kiss the bride.
