Women as second class citizens

i don't know about anyone else, but even when i was 14 or 15 i had an issue with the fact that women are weaker vessels than men and we are to be submissive to our "head" of the house etc.... people just assumed i was a moody teenager trying to be cool by disagreeing with those scriptures but i was a feminist in the making.. i even asked an elder's wife about it and i said to her: "you're a headstrong woman, how do you feel about this?

do you think you should succumb to paul's every word and do as he says all the time??".

she replied: "i hate that scripture too sarah.

On the illustrations point, I hate how they use one illustration for one issue and use the same one (or very similar one) for the opposite situation.

I can't think right now of which one I'm thinking of but one that always sticks in my mind is the "the truth is like a box of chocolates, just because you don't like the Turkish Delight in a box, it doesn't mean you'd throw away the whole box! Well, the issue around (pick a controversial issue i.e. abstaining from blood) is just like the Turkish Delight. Eat around it and then eventually you'll eat the Turkish Delight/accept that abstaining from blood is also okay.

Then they'll say that just because a 2 hour long film has the word "shit" in it doesn't mean you should watch all of it but mute it at that point, you shouldn't watch ANY of it! LOL

People just assumed I was a moody teenager trying to be cool by disagreeing with those scriptures but I was a feminist in the making.

She replied: "I hate that scripture too Sarah. In fact there are a lot of Biblical topics I don't particularly like but I ignore them."

THEN, her husband, the PO turned round and said: "Me too, Sarah. There's a few bible parts I disagree with totally, but hey...I'm an elder."

It was at this point where I started to lose my "faith". And, today still, those people blame the world for my leaving the JW religion.

Recent assembly

1) stop using internet,facebook,myspace,email,texting and spend more time studying and in service.. my mate quit their facebook page when we came home lol.

2) maybe i am just more tuned into it now, but they mentioned "apostate" a lot more this time around, espicially when talking about the internet.. it keeps me thinking, if there is nothing to hide, then why is there such a big push not to look?

it's like an ugly girlfriend not wanting her boyfriend to look at the girls on the beach .

I wish I had the guts to go back to an assembly and be a spy!!! I think I might do one day. I live about 10 mins from the DA venue and I've purposely walked passed in the shortest skirt and rudest top I had. I loved the looks I got. I wish I had have been holding hands with my girlfriend too but can't have everything can we? :P

How did you get back into the assembly? My mum still goes, so I could go with her but all she would do is try and preach to me and think I was going back. She wouldn't let me go with her if she knew I was going just to exploit their ignorance. I might go to the circuit A's one where no one knows me lol!

Any tips on how to infiltrate their assembly??

how would you know whether it really were such a cult or not?

isn't there an objective method to evaluate groups for cultic tendencies?

the "video apostates" are connecting with the jehovah's witnesses.

not only are the witnesses watching these critical videos exposing the wathctower religion, but they are also commenting on them.

many jehovah's witnesses are leaving the organization because of this powerful internet exposure.

anyone who can turn their back on their flesh & blood sons and daughters, mothers and fathers fulfill this prophecy perfectly.. people who do this are utterly unloving & cruel.

it has lead thousands of people to feel issolated, alone & in many cases suicidal.

how can such a thing originate with god?.

Many of my friends can't get over the fact that JWs (my mum) is supposed to put Jehovah before their own family. And the annoying part is, that when family do leave the religion and the JWs shun them, the JWs praise that person and reassure them that they are fulfilling prophecy - which just strengthens their faith!

It's so annoying!

Hahah I love this thread! My mum used to be soooo stupid with things that came on the TV. In fact me and my brother thought it was so funny that we used to run down the stairs and I'd shout: "Mum, mum, Luke's possessed!" And my brother would act all demonised hahaha. She used to show us scriptures as to why that was not funny. "There's a time to laugh, a time to play etc.."

We weren't allowed to watch Sleeping Beauty, Charmed, Family Guy amongst others. I also really like Christina Aguilera esp. her Merry Christmas Baby because her voice is amazing but mum wouldn't let me listen to it because it was about Christmas.

Yet she used to sit watching Sister Act with us and sang Hail Mary and all those hymns lol

The amount of Christmas songs and films I couldn't watch when I was little because of my mum telling me to turn it off... I'm so glad I can watch the Muppets Christmas Carol for the first time this year :D

Elder won't marry mum because my brother's gay

i know that the elders and all jws have stupid "conscience" decisions to make from time to time, but this topped it for me.. my brother's gay and that's why he left the religion a few years ago.

now my mum wants to get re-married to another brother but the elder that she asked to marry them both declined.

he says that it would bother his conscience too much "because of luke living with you, because he's...ya know...gay!".

OMG im listening to this link and it's horrificly funny!!! I can't believe I spent 18 years of my life believing this shyte!

As Carpediem says, Luke isn't DF'd but according to this passage being read out to me, his lifestyle may be deemed wrong by the "community". That's what the elder said in fact: "His lifestyle is widely known about!" LOL it's not like it's plastered all over the internet.

My mum was horrified and called him homophobic! My mum's taken a while to accept both me and Luke for being gay but she knew this was too far. She came close to leaving the religion because of it, but is now just going to get married in a registry office with no witnesses.

She says that she did lots of research into this issue because it really stumbled her, but she told me and Luke that she couldn't find anything in any of the publications about elders refusing to marry two witnesses because of one of their children being gay! The elder said that the only way he'll marry them is if my mum kicked my brother out of the house. What the hell??? What would Jehovah think eh???
