Designs is right. I kept my lengthy letter to a single point, even though it took ten pages to get it all out. They replied roughly 6-8 months later with the typical, "Wait on Jehovah. Go back to meetings. Stop thinking so much, that's our job. Yours is to go out in service and suck it up."

My Letter To the Watchtower
by AiAi inthis is an exact copy of my letter to the watchtower.
it never recieved a reply (i did not include 'attn writing committee' in the address however).
please keep in mind that when i wrote this i had just started my intensive research into their beliefs/history, and despite my agressive tone i really did expect a satisfactory answer.

I need a show of hands: who believes the Bible and to what extent?
by Terry ini'll start off.. i don't believe anything is divine about bible writings.
i believe there may be some marginal history although not much.
i think alot of folk tales and regional myths are contained in the old testament.

I think the Jewish Bible was written by Jews for Jews. I think the Christian Bible was written by Jews for Jews who believed their Jesus was the promised Messiah. Period.

ROFL, Sam! This was my initial impression as well. Just thought he might clean it up and make a better attempt at refuting the irrefutable.
Guess I was wrong.

Watchtower Study (1/16/2010)
by FrankWTower ini was just going over this week's wt study and i found this paragraph (p. 6) that i found so mind boggling, that i want to share:.
as mentioned in the preceding article, a fundamental goal that you can set is to prove to yourself that what is said in the bible is true.

Yeah I remember that one. The irony was almost enough to make me physically ill. Instead, I just cracked up and burned the damn thing in the fireplace.

Elpiro, you are truly an anomaly; an anointed JW that is (so far) willing to discuss his beliefs with those who have left the WT. I hope you keep it up. You represent about .001% of your religion if this is all not some lame joke on your part. Civil debate with those who leave is not something your religion is known for. Maybe you can do your part to change that.
Until I see more, I remain hopeful but not optimistic. Prove me wrong and stick around.

Was this ever a good religion to be in?
by whatistruth inwhere sincerity, mercy, love predominated the witnesses at one time?
or has it always been like it is today, corrupt, hypocritical, abuse of power, unloving?
just curious if it started out with good intentions and then like anything else as time goes on and it becomes too big for unqualified people to handle it, it all goes bad..

Was this ever a good religion to be in? Depends. If you enjoy a life of totally-dominated blissful ignorance, operating under the impression that you are part of the most special group of people on the planet and look forward to a near-future event where little children die horrific deaths... Yeah, I think I know some people who dig that idea.

It does seem pretty sensational, but some of it also seems pretty much what I remember going on in my neck of the woods. They absolutely do not respect those who partake, especially the newer ones. They do seem to be tightening their leash on the friends. They have been guilty of Facebook spying in my case, along with the printing of pamphlets and spreading them around for all to see, as well.
This organization is nothing if not paranoid, isolationist, and fearful. So the tenor of the post rings true to me, if not a bit exaggerated. Either way, I'm always intrigued by fresh WT drama.

Did You Believe That The World Adored JW's?
by mentallyfree31 inas a jw, i always believed that the outside world adored us.
i knew that many people didn't care for us, and didn't believe our teachings, but i thought our conduct was a "bright light" shining to the world.
from the stage, we heard endless stories of business people and other non-jws praising us because we were such nice people.

Yep. As a born-in, that's what I was told, how the world hates us but at the same time highly respects our morals and values and way of life. What a load that was. Being out, I now see that not only does the world not adore JWs, they rarely take notice of them (unless their badgering them at the doors, which is thankfully happening less and less these days).
It turns out JWs aren't part of this greatly respected religion, they're part of a cult that inflates their importance beyond measure.
