The Sixteen - Miserere
the witnesses try to demonize the internet.
in your opinion is the internet the biggest problem for the watchtower organization?.
The internet is not the worst thing that could happen to the org. That would be an armageddon where they find out that they've been batting on the wrong side all along and that hell really is a place of eternal torment.
Here's some rambling thoughts in no particular order.
The internet will only have an affect on recruitment and retention where it is available. Despite increasing penetration in developing/3rd world countries, access is pretty well skewed to the richer countries. As was pointed out earlier it is thse countries that the organisation primarily relies on for it's revenues.
Age too will play a role. My mother is 73 and has been a witness for 30 years. She's never used a computer and never will. As this older generation dies off they will be replaced by a younger generation more disposed to using the internet, and in so doing finding ideas and information in conflict with current teachings.
I read an Awake piece the other day about thr dangers of the internet. They focused exclusively on pornography (almost unavoidable apparently) and marital breakup. Funny how they didn't mention that it's a place full of apostate sites that might wake a witness up from their slumber.
I seem to remember years ago looking for the official jworg site. I seem to remember them having a placeholder site. This gave no information as they do now but basically said 'we've got this domain name. We are the witnesses. If you want further information contact your local Kingdom Hall or national office. By the way, anybody else claiming to be the real JW site are a bunch of apostates'. When did this change and the organisation start to use a site designed to encourage visitors?
this picture was my graduation from high school.
i wasn't there to take that photo along with my classmates and teachers.. .
25 years have gone ever since...still after all those years, many times in my dreams i used to watch my self taking that final picture.
That was an incredibly moving post. Thank you.

'Another young brother faces pressure from young ladies everyday to commit immorality'
Skip the first minute.
Sir Galahad is in pursuit of the Holy Grail. He nearly succumbs to temptation from young ladies, but is saved from temptation by his fellow questers.

the society (and others) love to quote job 26:7 where it says that "[god] suspends the earth over nothing" and isaiah 40:22, where it speaks of "the circle of the earth".
they use these scriptures to boast about the incredible scientific accuracy of the bible, proving god had a direct hand in everything written in it.. the trouble is that elsewhere in the scriptures, opposing views are put forth explaining then-unexplainable physics and geographical notions.
one is job 26:11: "the pillars of heaven tremble.
Wow, thankyou Lime.
Pure genius that last post.
That must have taken quite some effort, and certainly had me laughing. Well, I think you've conclusively proved what we all knew. This passage can not be intended to be taken literally and the Bible still be accurate. It was also not meant to refer just to the known countries. If it was more 'as in a deam', why do the mountaineering in the first place?
My prefered explanation is the flat Earth one. I'm pretty happy with the idea that the Jews and just about everybody else believed in a flat earth as given in my Encyclopedia Judaica.
This is one of the subjects where I've never heard the fundamentalist rationalisation of though.
mine is "silent night".
never get tired of listening to that one..
Bobby Darin - Poor Little Jesus
I quite like the Odetta version too.
what are the ones that sound like fingernails on the blackboard, the ones that make you want to pull the gun out from under the seat and shoot the radio in your car?.

Oh, I nearly forgot. Widely thought to be the worst album ever.
Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music (it's all equally as bad as the rest, except the very end).
