200,000 evacuated last night in Northern California.
by compound complex inwhere a few of us here on the forum live is in an emergency situation.
the main spillway on oroville dam -- the tallest dam in the usa -- is damaged.
the emergency spillway, never used before in the 48 years the dam has operated, is eroding.. major confusion and panic occurred when the order went out sunday, late afternoon: this is not a drill!.

I was hearing about this on BBC news today. It's incredible that this can happen. Was the dam not being properly maintained?
I hope you are well CC and the evacuation is not too traumatic. Please stay safe and let us know how you are.

Does Paul preach a fundamentally different religion than Jesus?
by Yesu Kristo Bwana Wangu incontroversy has arisen regarding jesus versus paul as scholars debate the different emphases and messages of jesus and paul.1 jesus preached the kingdom of heaven.
paul did not.
paul preached justification by faith alone.

Jesus contradicts Yahweh
I'm not convinced about that.
Yes I think the differences between Paul and Jesus of the gospels are profound. Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi. He was absolutely wedded to the centrality of keeping the Law. His genius was to grasp the principles behind the Law.
Paul's assertion that Jew and Gentile were saved by faith alone, apart from Law, is not of Jesus of the gospels.

Through legalism, has the WTBT$ and their followers lost their moral compass?
by LarryCope inin december, i lunched with someone who was at one time quite close and is still a jw.
the topic of the arc ( australian royal commission ) and pedophilia came up.
the two things that was immediately voiced by this person was the two witness rule and that it was homosexuals molesting witness boys parroting the plastic faced stephen lett.this person is not online and has not seen the arc videos or know anything about the silent lambs movement.

JWs focus on relatively trivial displays of good behavior, sexual repression and politeness and confuse that with morality.
In things that really matter they betray a woeful lack of genuine ethics.

Are Children born crippled/diseased, uncared for, and dying prematurely proof that God does not exist?
by anointed1 inare children born crippled/diseased, uncared for, and dying prematurely proof that god does not exist?.
1) what do children born healthy and well cared for prove?
2) what do babies aborted (many of whom might have led a normal healthy life, and some of whom might have contributed much to the society like many scientists, doctors, engineers ....) prove?.

Moral High Ground
by Spoletta init seems that the other threads about trump's policies are veering off into endless ideological theories about how much better we are than islam.
does anyone think there is a chance that islam can be changed in the same manner that christianity has over the centuries?
with the inflow of ideas from western countries into the middle east, will people gradually want to move away from sharia law to something less patriarchal and cruel?

modern Christianity has made further positive steps to turn their back on more of what is wrong in the Bible ... There is no reason Islam cannot also progress down a similar path - JWFacts
One of the blocks to reform is that the quran is held to be directly dictated by Allah. Every single letter of every syllable is his word. Where there are conflicting statements later sayings supercede earlier ones.
As Muhammad became more powerful in Medina his pronouncements became more aggressive towards infidels replacing the conciliatory sayings of the Meccan period.
Many western terrorists were radicalised by Mullahs who introduced them to the quran in their own language. Previously they had only learned to recite verbatim in Arabic. It is a poisonous book. The Hadith and Sira offer no way out either.

Ask Ayaan Hirsi Ali or Maajid Nawaz how the prospects are for reform.
Time is not on our side.
Western democracies are morally superior to every Muslim majority state by a very long way.

The Fundamental difference between Islam and Christianity
by ILoveTTATT2 inever since i came out of the witnesses, i've become very political.. i've heard lots of arguments back and forth for many things.. in the u.s. there is the argument that it is "racist" to want to deny entry to muslims.
while there is freedom of religion, there is also the very valid concern of maintaining democracy and a justice system that is based on modern values.we as exjw's constantly quote the pew center for statistics on jw's such as: they are last place in the us for members of a religion that go to university, and second-last for poverty levels of members of a religion.
we accept those statistics and mention them as proof of how damaging the jw's are.now, let's use the same center for some very scary statistics on islam:http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/22/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/.

I have always taken a 'soft stance' with Xtians on this forum, and supported their right to be heard. I still support that. But if countries (even Russia or China or Afghanistan or any place) want to ban religion, or JW, or any 'belief', I am all for it! Let the revolution begin! Down with G-d! - Talesin
I could not disagree more.
Freedom of belief and worship is fundamental to a civilised society. As an anti-theist I would fight for freedom of religion. Superstition will continue to fade in its own time as we combat it with evidence and reason.
Your cavalier attitude to personal freedom is chilling.
On the other hand we should have zero tolerance of oppressive actions that hide behind religion. Of all the religions in the world Islam is the slow kid in the class.
