Remembrance Day
by label licker inthinking back on how we were not suppose to get involved in honoring the dead yet the entire bible is based on dead people, what they have done whether good or bad and lessons we could learn from them and honoring them.
i remember being told that we are not suppose to go boasting before men on what we do, not letting the right hand know what the left hand is doing yet all those people in the bible had their entire lives written down before us to be remembered.
even the widow with the two coins.

Can you ever see a time when Govt`s of this world will attempt to abolish all religions ?
by smiddy3 inwe are now in the 21st century of our common era with its insights into the potential of what can be achieved in the near future to benefit mankind for years to come .. the co-operation of governments around the world on so many levels has never been better than it is today and it is at least encouraging to see this .. whether it has to do with the climate , the environment ,food production ,safe water for all ,and the better health for all in the near future, and in the future space exploration.
however the problem today is still religion !
in its many extreme forms that divides us in no ways that politics divide us .. politicians learn how to compromise and work with their opponents for the greater good ,whereas religions don`t.. religions divide humans like no politicians ever did well not to the extremes religions will go anyway.. is their going to come a time in history when governments politicians say enough is enough and try attempt to abolish religion ?.

Jehovah's Witnesses, is there Life after Death?
by JW Answers inthe jehovah's witnesses claim that at death you cease to exist... however, what if they have been taught wrong?
what if the bible explains that there is life immediately after death?
what if more than 8 people in scripture from old testament to new experienced, acknowledged or taught that there was life straight after death?

Why Religion is Outdated in the 21st Century - Lawrence Krauss
by Finkelstein inlisten to lawrence's thoughts on why humanity is better off to live within scientific information and knowledge than live within regulated ancient religious beliefs as a base for human sociological direction.. .

His book " A universe from nothing" only establishes that there really is, and never was such thing as nothing.
Did you read the book? I did and came to the opposite conclusion. The total energy in the universe is zero.
I am no longer convinced that religion does not have a positive role to play in society. I think Dawkins and Krauss are too simplistic.
Jonathan Haidt has some very interesting observations about this in his book, The Righteous Mind.
The challenge is how you replace the potential benefits of religion without lying to yourselves about reality.

Been to see the new film (movie) tonight. Outstanding! Brought back lots of memories. Live Aid reconstruction was brilliant.
I never knew Freddie had a life-long girlfriend.
Go see it.
That's three good films in a row; First Man, A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody.
What have you watched recently?

If they would simply change their policy so that every reasonable suspicion of abuse must be reported to the police the 'two-witness' rule would become less of a problem.
The real issue is the unspoken law that no JW must ever 'bring reproach on Jehovah's name'. The elders will not take responsibility to report abuse and the victim and JW parents are under pressure not to do so.
JWs don't report other JWs to the police. Muslim communities don't go to the police. Orthodox Jewish communities don't go to the police against other Jews. I would guess that the Amish are similar. This is what allows abuse to prosper.
If they changed the 'two witness rule' but didn't change the policy on reporting abuse to the authorities nothing would improve for victims. Abusers would still be protected to carry on abusing. Even if they are DFd they are free to carry on abusing new victims in the wider community.
The irony is that the unwritten policy of not washing dirty linen in public has resulted in more reproach than they could ever have imagined possible. And yet they they refuse to make any changes. It is this irrational position that makes me wonder who they are protecting.

What was the last thing you said to your jw family?
by caves in7 years ago i had my last conversation with the toxic jw that mostly raised me.
every conversation was toxic for my entire adult life with her.
the last time we spoke was right before the memorial 7 years ago and she was laying on the usual heavy guilt and fear mongering about how jeho counts his people at the memorial.

I had a very long talk to my elder dad about the reasons I could no longer believe that the organisation was ‘god’s channel’. At the end of conversation he acknowledged that he could not defend his doctrines in the light of the things I had shared but ‘life outside the organisation is unthinkable’.
Twenty-two years later his position has not changed.
Never be fooled by the sort of wise-sounding elders who inspire confidence in others. Beneath the facade of certainty they have got nothing.
