How about asking how the Bible can be a reliable moral guide when it advocates slavery?
Will post some references later when back at my laptop.
normally when jws come to my door, i very quickly tell them i'm not interested in the jws.
and for about a year or so they don't come until that time passes.
well, they came by today, but this time i decided to not tell them to go away but had a nice conversation with the two that were at my door.

within the very documentary is a reason i think that jw's for the most part will not wake up even if they watch this program.
the one lady actually saw as her family sat behind the abuser in court supporting him despite the established fact that he had abused their very own child.. this shows how deep the indoctrination is.
i am not saying that some won't wake up, but the majority will carry on, not even because they think these things are lies but because they will look past that at all costs to side with jehovah.
There will be a significant number of JWs who are reaching a tipping point for a variety of reasons.
Ongoing publicity and public shame about child abuse will be the final straw.

any minority group who bring such cases because they have been "offended" by a comment or a joke about their precious "alternate" lifestyle, should take a few steps back and admit what they are really demanding - a total ban on everyone's freedom of speech, except their's!
Scotland is proposing to make thought-crimes illegal.
Two potential Labour leaders would follow suit.
Stupid ideologues who were revolting Marxist/pomo students in the 60s are now in power.
i was looking at my children's watch history on youtube when i saw that they were watching atheist content!!!
what should i do?
.
Joan75 - Communism has indeed been responsible for the deaths of approximately 100,000,000 deaths in the 20th century.
A disbelief in God is a premise of Marxism.
However your simplistic connection between disbelief in God and mass murder is facile.
Saying that a person does not believe in god tells us almost nothing about them. It's as empty of significance as noticing that somebody has red hair.
Personally I stand for many positive beliefs in humanism and secular ethics. Marxism is a flawed philosophy. Only ignorant youths and ideologues still pay heed to him.
Society has achieved progress standing on the shoulders of men like David Hume, Baruch Spinoza, John Locke and John Stuart Mill. The Enlightenment taught us to reject authoritarianism, whether religious or otherwise.
The sort of fundamentalism that you represent hypocritically enjoys all the benefits of the Enlightenment while trampling on all it stands for.

Congratulate them.
If they have questions see if you can come up with honest answers that don't amount to special pleading, appeals to authority or include the word 'mystery'. Good luck with that.

as her marriage crumbles, a judge must decide a case involving a teenage boy who is refusing a blood transfusion on religious principle.. i saw the trailer for this a long time ago and its subject matter immediately got me interested.
it has just been added the netflix catalogue here in australia and i am looking forward to finally watching it.. please, if you've seen it, no spoilers!.
I have seen the movie in the cinema. It is excellent. Nuanced and thoughtful narrative beautifully told.
Obviously it didn't have enough car chases, explosions and CGI for Jimmy. How the actual fuck he saw pedophilia in the judges' concern for the young man is beyond understanding.
Watch the movie. You won't regret it.
someone has uploaded both episodes to google drive.

My wife and I have just watched both episodes. Brilliant documentary.
1,300 cases filed against the Watchtower in NY state so far this year - and it's only February.
i just had this flashback when commenting on another thread about how they used to announce reproof or dfing from the platform.
at least in our congregation, it was a dramatic event (this is what i can remember from back in the mid-late 60's or early 70's when i was a kid).. at the end of the service meeting, just before singing the final song, the brother would announce, "we have a letter that must be read.
the "congregation servant" (my grandfather or later my father) would then slowly walk from the back of the kh to the platform.
I remember an elder's son who was married with children. He faithfully attended every meeting for 6 months, got reinstated and was never seen at the kingdom hall again.
I doubt if the elder cared now that he had his grandchildren back.
the following is from mark o'donnellhttps://twitter.com/mark_j_odonnell/status/1225864318794772480breaking news: on february 6th, plaintiff lexi nunez filed an amended complaint in sanders county montana, alleging negligence in connection with her abuse.

Has the client-penitent privilege clause been tested in SCOTUS or only at state supreme court level?

Anybody remember announcements that somebody had been put on 'probation'?
