  Has Anyone Had Chinese Food Lately?

  since this virus, i have noticed that nearly all of the take out joints in my area are closed.

  I miss Chinese food. The blame lies with the CCP not with our Chinese neighbours or the Chinese population.

  On the other hand I will go out my way in future never to buy goods made in China.

  Joan - I was an evangelical, born-again, bible-believing, son of god, saved, adopted christian for a decade after I left the cult. I dived deeply into theology and christian apologetics. When our church lost its pastor I preached regularly. I preached Christ and him crucified. I know what it is I am criticising.

  I probably understand your beliefs better than you do. I know exactly why your brand of christianity is beneath the contempt of every human being with an ounce of moral sense.

  MMM - If every single detail of your life was inevitable from before your conception then you have never made a free choice.

  Are you having a cup of coffee right now? Which blend? What colour of mug did you choose? How many sips did you take to finish it? Did you finish it? Did you just touch your nose? Which side? Which hand? Did you glance out the window? How long did you look?

  According to xtians like Joan EVERY detail including thousands of things we could say about the last five minutes of your day was cast in stone before your birth.

  How exactly is freedom or genuine human relationships possible?

  It's a great question.

  If God has - or as the WT has it, COULD HAVE if he chose - perfect knowledge of the future, then free will is a delusion.

  The book of your life, in every minute detail is already written, and you have no choice but to act it out.

  Every effort by theologians to combine foreknowledge and free will amounts to nothing but sophistry and hand waving.

  This should tell you something about theology.

  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  Countries that locked down very early and very hard such as Denmark are likely to have a relatively small population who have been exposed. When they open up - as they are about to do now - they might find they have no option but to go through the same pain that France, Italy Spain and to a lesser degree, the UK are in the midst of.

  Random antibody testing of the general population will show what percentage of the country has been through covid19 already and are unlikely - or less likely - to be reinfected. That allows decisions to be made about opening up again. Once 60% or so are immune the virus will spread much more slowly with an R0 well below 1. Combined with testing of people with new symptoms, and tracing of contacts, new flare-ups can be suppressed. Phone apps will probably be part of the equation.

  This is how South Korea have dealt with the pandemic because they had the resources from day 1 having been hammered previously by MERS. No doubt every country will be doing similar preparation for future Chinese pandemics (it will happen again)

  It is a parcel of RNA wrapped up in a lipid membrane. It is not technically alive as it can't reproduce outside of a host cell. Once the membrane breaks down the DNA is destroyed. Soap and water - or just time - destroys the membrane. It cannot pass through your skin but will pass easily through eyes, nose and mouth. So wash your hands, forget about gloves and wash your hands.

  An alternative - favoured by SBF is to completely lock down until a vaccine or an effective treatment is available. A vaccine is 12-18 months away. A treatment may be a few months to a year away if an existing drug can be repurposed. So far potential candidates have failed.

  No economy can afford more than a few months. Economic collapse costs many lives.
