speaking of browser and favorates.. I hopped on the WT CDrom to look up something about kings of babalyon and I noticed I had the days text...for 2010! and it's the 08 edition,...SERIOUSLY?? what did they do download the new days text on my harddrive without me knowing?? Running my spyware scanner as I type this..

Anybody Know What Presiding Overseer's are Being Told at Bethel School ?
by flipper ini guess there is a special training school going on for presiding overseers according to my jw mom.
my elder brother went back there for a week training session .
he explained that they are doing this training first in the united states only for presiding overseers and if it works out well - they'll implement it across the world in other countries.. apparently he stated that the training they are getting is very detailed and to the point.

Letter to all congregations in Canada 2010
by bobld inpledge forms will be issued to all brothers & sisters requesting for donations for k.h.,assembly halls,reno of k.h.etc.they did give some poor excuse as why this was necessary.my guess is that the brothers who made interest free loans to the wbts are asking for these loans back because of all the layoffs and the down turn in the economy.. bob.

Does the WTS smell the blood in the water?
by djmac1031 inim sure im not the only former jw here who is noticing the subtle, and not so subtle changes in wts policy, and their attempts to make life easier for their rank n file.. .
combining the book study meeting with the service meeting / ministry school meeting and giving their members a "night off" so to speak (although they are of course encouraged to use this night as an evening of "family & personal bible study") is surely a sign that they understand their current r&f members can only take so much more of the wts complete control over every waking hour of their lives.. .
they have also shortened the public talks, cut down on the length of assembly days...i remember the 8 or 9 day assemblies as a kid myself, and over the years they have gotten shorter...a week...4 days...now generally no longer than 3 days.. .

Well if they inforce having a DPA card they will lose alot more. from what I gather it's a replacement for the blood card..and pretty much gives the elders the ability to make decisions for you. whether your able to make descisions or not. Not sure how true that is, I haven't gotten my hands on one. anyone have one they can post or send me a scan of it so I can read it?

One of the BIG misconseptions every witnesses I EVER talked to or know. Including myself until I found out other wise is the whole "where not a cult cause we don't follow a MAN" idea. It's completly bogus. You look at the LIST of qualifications to be considered a "cult" and Following a MAN or one person is not one of them. the WT tells them this and gives them this idea to make them fell better about themselves. I would print out the list of ways to tell if your in a cult. and have it handy when you do talk to you mother to show her that it isn't even on there. Also as someone else said wait til you finish the book. Infact I want to pick it upmyself. cause I am nearing the talk to the family point myself. Not looking forward to it.

Sent anonymous letters to the society?
by Truthexplorer injust wondered if many of you have sent any anonymous letter to the society expressing your view points and unhappiness with the way things are.. i am in the process of doing this, but wish to keep it personal and not show it on this forum as there is too much in the letter that might give me away.
the letter will be very sincere and honest.
it will be about 10 pages long and i will be sending copies to the governing body and to the writing department at brooklyn.

Yeah I know people who have wrote them with simple questions and told them who they were, the socitey read it.. replied and send a copy to their local elders as well. LOVLY. Email you got to watch cause they can get your ISP addy and find out where you live.. also post marks can give you away too. SOOOO Unless you can have a friend do it for you in another state (I've done this. make sure they cut and paste into a new email and not FWD though). I wouldn't do it honestly. The rats are everywhere.

JW's a RELIGION based on PERFORMANCE! How dangerous is that???
by freewilly01 ini have come to realize that this religion is based almost solely on performance and that is the most dangerous.. i always felt that as a person or jw (while an active witness)that i was always just as good as my last assignment, comment at the watchtower meeting, feild service report.. this left me with a huge identity crisis in the borgorg......... i really didn't know who the hell i was?.

Freewilly I had a nervious breakdown over it.. I rememeber I was close to 30 and got one of those emails your friends send. saying what is your favorate color and blah blah. so you can learn about your friends. I looked at the list and started crying, I had no idea what the answers was to any of the questions. All those years of doing as I was told and not thinking for myself left a big gaping hole. I almost offed myself cause I was trapped and didn't know what to do. Everything is all about appearances. How things look to others. Never mind how things REALLY are!
I remember I used to get yelled at for studing the Watchtower. Cause I was told the brothers with the mic could see I didn't have anything underlined. So I started underlining (I never learned how to study, always picked stuff up the first time in school so the whole underlining studing thing seems REALLY dumb to me). I mean just underlining any old thing just to make them happy. It's all about appearances.
Did anyone ever hear someone comment on how "real" the demonstations at the circuit assemblies and conventions were. I mean the acted out ones, with the over emphatic voices. And then the same people when they express concern for you. use that exact same voice. When I started fading as sister came up to me and sad "We Love you!" with that overacted emphatic phoney voice....I almost upchucked.

by edlewiese inok i have asked several of my friends and they have never heard of being chased by a committee before.
so i am hoping someone has some insight.. .
i'll give you background and yes i am not innocent in the situation but what i was raised to believe is being contradicted by the actions of the elders.. .

Honestly it's an old boys club. Your husband get a free pass for being a jerk. and You find a man who treats you wonderful, and they will hang you out to dry for it. It's typical. Women are always told in abusive situations to "be a better wife". Like it is some how all your fault.. typicial. Could it be that your husband implied that since his lap dances were really "grounds" in their eyes, that your moving on with someone else is what gave him grounds. Could be he set you up like that. "Hey I just had a few lap dances..she gone and fell in love to a guy who treats her wonderfully! HOw dare she!! See she sign this, saying I free"

A WTS prophecy that actually came true in our time...
by dozy ini used to have friends that worked in the department that dealt with news release at assemblies and we always had a chuckle at the press releases that were carefully scripted with the usual fill in the blanks (bethel speaker , attendance , number of baptised etc) for distribution to the local newspapers.. most responded by carefully filing the press release in the b (for bin) file , but some newspapers print the press release in full.
i couldn't help but laugh at the one for the 2009 district assemblies which helpfully includes the observation that the audience broke out in spontaneous prolonged applause at the conclusion of the assembly.
this does seem quite remarkable considering that it was written in a press release written many months before the convention actually took place.

OMG I have a hilarious story about the spontanious applause! I was at an Circuit assembly, and the family sitting infront of me had one of the kids who kept nodding off. Well at one point the speaker is going on about something and just as he was saying that..the mom jabbed the kid awake. He jumped and slapped his hand just once. Which triggered the entire assembly into thunderious applause. No joke, the speaker was very confused and appeared abit angry that people were clapping when they weren't supposed to be.

Nearly 100 years of Devil's "short period of time" (Rev 12:12) - Ridiculous!

"apparently the society feels that the judgment period has stretched too far.
its been over 80 years since the judgment began in 1914. they are now saying the bible, "does not show that such judging would continue over an "extended period of many years" (watchtower, 15 october 1995, p. 22).

What I never got is are we IN the 1000 year reign or not. I mean Jesus sat down as king in 1914..so there for he is REIGNING.. so were in his 1000 year reign? So everyone who keeps talking about the 1000 years of paradise is wrong they only got 900 years not to get there act together. HMM If Jesus is sitting on his throne, like they say in 1914..and the big A isn't here yet..and were not in paradise yet. And he isn't judgeing or sort persons out yet? Just exactly what is he doing? They don't seem to know... I think that in itself is a HUGE loop hole. If only these people could REASON on what there told. I don't see how they can't see little sence it makes.
