I would far prefer a well-meaning person to tell me--"I'm so sorry to hear about your _______(fill in the problem____, I'll Dance the Hokey Pokey for you." At least that would take a measure of commitment and skill!

Goatee = Cooler, shapes the face, though may be a bit dated fashion-wise
Mustache = What the fuck? WHY ON EARTH would a man want to grow hair only on his top lip???? When I see a mustache (alone, as in no either facial hair design plan) I think creepy. For some reason I also think that the guy has something to hide.
Beard and goatee men seem to have no problem shaving them off, growing them back again. But "mustache men" are permanently attached to them. Eeewww, I have shivers just typing this.
thinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.
i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.

on another thread, african gb member wondered whether the members of the governing body really believe what they preach.

I was shocked when I first discovered that the GB doesn't discuss issues until they arrive at consensus, they VOTE.
how many of you started out down this road as someone who knew there were lots of problems and holes in the doctrine of the religion but wanted to be "part of the solution" as what i would call a "reformer"?.
for a long time, i wanted to be an outstanding elder since i thought so many of them were @$$holes, but i found out after a while the majority of the good ones are chewed up and spitten out in the organization.the others who start out with the right motives either fall in line or get run over.. unfortunately, i kept that delusion up for many years - and just about killed myself doing it.
thats when the light went on and i finally figured out why i was so miserable doing it - it was all for naught - you cant change it.
The Organization isn't a sinking ship, it's just a ship with bad food, uncomfortable beds, no lifeboats, corrupt crew, stupid rules plus it's sailing in the wrong direction. You could try to fix all that during your cruise, but disembarking at the next port and flying home makes much more sense.
In the area of higher education there was a degree of reform in the 90s, but in 2005 or so that was turned around again and the society began taking an even harder stance against it.
I suspect, though I could be wrong, that the reason the old H2O board died is because it was reformist rather than apostate.

The word "mate".... it's interesting that a few have used it here. It's Jehovah's Witness jargon. IMO it's rooted in the 50s mindset of the Governing Body.
If you really don't understand what I mean, try using the word "mate" to describe your husband or wife next time you get together with normal people.... sorry I mean non Jehovah's Witnesses.
a few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.
i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.
