  i've never really understood the watchtower's teaching on jesus being michael.

  here is what i understand they teach:.

  1. jehovah's first creation was the archangel michael.. 2. jesus was nothing more than a perfect man, not michael the archangel in human form.. 3. rather, when jesus was conceived in mary, michael went out of existence and his impersonal life force was put into jesus (analogous to sharing the same pacemaker).. 4. when jesus died, his impersonal life force went back into a recreated archangel michael.. .

  is a "sexual paradise".

  Sexual paradise as compared to what? JWs as a whole are a lot more strict regarding sex inside and outside marriage than most other Christian religions I can think of.

  Excellent material Leolaia. Thank you. It is interesting how the book of Enoch was dismissed as "extravagant and unhistorical" myths when there are many Bible references that would seem extravagant (a world-wide flood, the sun standing still, a talking donkey and snake, etc.).

  Can you recommend any good books/references that discuss the early development of Christianity and particularly the books in use at that time?

  bibliolaters preach that the bible is an inerrant work of unity and harmony so perfect that it can be explained only by the doctrine of verbal inspiration.

  it makes great sermon fodder to feed to gullible pulpit audiences, but this discrepancy in what the apostles didn't know but should have known about an impending resurrection of their leader is a glitch in the bible that must be explained before rational people can accept the inerrancy theory.. john's account of the resurrection has peter and another disciple running to the empty tomb after hearing from mary magdalene that the body of jesus was gone.

  The Book of Enoch is an apocryphal and pseudepigraphic text. It is falsely ascribed to Enoch. Produced probably sometime during the second and first centuries B.C.E., it is a collection of extravagant and unhistorical Jewish myths, evidently the product of exegetical elaborations on the brief Genesis reference to Enoch. This alone is sufficient for lovers of God’s inspired Word to dismiss it.

  In the Bible, only the book of Jude contains Enoch’s prophetic words: "Look! Jehovah came with his holy myriads, to execute judgment against all, and to convict all the ungodly concerning all their ungodly deeds that they did in an ungodly way, and concerning all the shocking things that ungodly sinners spoke against him." (Jude 14, 15) Many scholars contend that Enoch’s prophecy against his ungodly contemporaries is quoted directly from the Book of Enoch. Is it possible that Jude used an unreliable apocryphal book as his source?

  How Jude knew of Enoch’s prophecy is not revealed in the Scriptures. He may simply have quoted a common source, a reliable tradition handed down from remote antiquity. Paul evidently did something similar when he named Jannes and Jambres as the otherwise anonymous magicians of Pharaoh’s court who opposed Moses. If the writer of the Book of Enoch had access to an ancient source of this kind, why should we deny it to Jude?—Exodus 7:11, 22; 2 Timothy 3:8.

  How Jude received the information about Enoch’s message to the ungodly is a minor matter. Its reliability is attested to by the fact that Jude wrote under divine inspiration. (2 Timothy 3:16) God’s holy spirit guarded him from stating anything that was not true.

  in my nervousness, i inadvertently deleted a well thought out post.

  here is the short version:.

  my co-worker shuns me completely unless i ask him work related questions.. he treats everyone else nicely and jokes with them, but not with me.. he can't bring himself to even look in my direction.. when i walk up to the area he's in, he hightails it to somewhere else.

  It was evidently caused by a cow. A well-known nursery rhyme describes a cow jumping over the moon. An alternative ending for the word translated over is on. Thus we can say that the cow jumped on the moon. In order to make such a leap, the cow would have had to run a great distance before he leaped. The power of his leap may have been enough to counteract the earth's spin. Alternatively, new light may have shone out of the cow's nether regions and made it appear as if the cow was shining as brightly as the sun. However, one can logically conclude that when the cow landed on the moon, it was enough to stop the moon in it's orbit of the earth. After waiting on the moon for a day (and possible contininuing to shine new light out it's nether region), it would seem that it had walked to the other side of the moon (thus making it appear that it went over the moon), and then leaped off, restoring the orbit off the moon. When the cow landed, at an extreme angle, it may have restored the earth's rotational momentum. No one noticed the cow because the cow jumped invisibly. Opposers may be quick to point out that a cow would have run out of oxygen in space or burnt up in the atmosphere, but we know that "nothing is impossible with God".
