My dad is shunning me, too!
This happens since I became a JW.
I hate the world!
Shunning can go both ways it seems.
tia.dalma, is your father shunning because of his religious beliefs? Or is he opposed to the witnesses or some of their teachings?
well this was no surprise to me that my dad was doing this.
m df brother went round last night to borrow some tools and my dad just had to mention that he was dissapointed with the family and how we don't go to the meetings anymore.
he told my brother that he could not have a proper farther son relationship as he does not share the same faith and hope for the future as him, and if an emergencey situation was to present it'self then he would be their for him.

it's been my experience so far, that anything a person wants to find out about jehovahs witnesses, they can find out from jehovahs witnesses.
any and all information ever published by jehovah witnesses is accessible to all.
It's actually more disturbing that a forum that advertises itself as a neutral forum to discuss anything pertaining to Jehovah's Witnesses is 99% full of former members.
We would have more if Jehovah's Witnesses were allowed to participate in an online forum that frankly discussed beliefs.
does anyone know anything about the gb member guy pierce?.
what is his background?.
what sort of personality does he have?.

Guy Pierce raised a family and then with his wife started pioneering in April 1982. He served as a circuit overseer from 1986 until 1997, when he and his wife, Penny, became part of the United States Bethel family. Brother Pierce had been serving as a helper to the Personnel Committee.

Our faith is based on the highest education today. Some say that JWs are anti-education. Nothing could be further from the truth. We go to the highest education. Jehovah knows everything. What puny humans or professors teach doesn't come close to Jehovah. Pierce's went to Japan. Met a man who was a pathologist; a brilliant man, good-hearted. He dedicated his life to find the source of disease. His University studies, post-graduate studies, he opened a clinic. He began to study the Bible with JWs. He learned what happened in Eden and saw the futility of his life's work. He saw that medical science cannot change what happened in Eden. He lost all interest in medicine, closed his clinic, and pioneered. What a brilliant decision; Just like Paul (Phillipians 3:7,8). Considered worldly accomplishments like garbage because of his ecucation. We already have the excelling value of Christ. Why spend our life going through garbage?
Parents and Jehovah wants what's best for your children. Who knows what's best? Some say "well that work's in America... but not in my culture." Paul was not an American. Br. Pierce lived in an area where 95% of young ones go directly into pioneer service from hight school. He's never seen any happier, they blossomed emotionally and spiritually. Many are still in the full-time service. Br. Pierce has helped many to come into the truth. Many who come into the truth are of modest means. Some are successfull businessmen, accomplished musicians, engineers, sports figures, etc. Now they use these talents to promote Kingdom interetes. The previously mentioned doctor in Japan is practicing medicine again. He is using his abilities to keep the brothers patched up so they can continue their work.
"They abandoned their dead works." Some aquire university education while in the truth. They are now using their talents to forward kingdom interests. That is a wonderful thing. But they have repented from their dead works [higher education]. Otherwise they would not have valued their course [of higher education] (Heb 6:1). Dead works are spiritually dead. They have no bearing with our relationship with Jehovah and surviving the end of this system of things.
yesterday, i went out for lunch with my parents when my mother made mention of something she had read in the newspaper about some new discovery of species that went extinct millions of years ago.
she asked my father what method is used to determine the age of something, because of course, this flies directly in face of the biblical account of life on this planet being only a few thousand years old.. anyway, my father related a story that some brother he ran into recently at the assembly told him.
this [unnamed] brother related a story told to him by another [unnamed] elder who knew an [unnamed] circuit serpent who was "really chummy with one of the [unnamed] executives at the royal ontario museum".
@dgp: the Watchtower or Awake! where the Society discussed the method to determine the age of animals using Carbon 14. Do you have an idea when that was printed?
Here you go: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/200132/1/Radiocarbon-Dating
And that article actually had references.
i am noticing here and there that the wt literature will say things like "one bible dictionary says ..." or "one scholar says ..." and then proceed with a quotation.
my immediate reaction is to ask myself why they didn't provide the specific source of the quote - author, publication, page #, etc.
so i am wondering, do other magazines do this?
It is normal when you have something to hide.

Yes, there is biased and/or distorted information, both from the JWs and the exJws.
The power lies in being able to see the facts presented by both sides to get a more balanced picture. That is practically impossible for the average JW who equates reading any critical information with feeding at the table of demons and apostates.
When the Organization learns to trust the brothers, let them see the information out there, discuss it, honestly address it, and let the brothers use their god-given thinking and reasoning abilities, then the internet will cease to be a danger to the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses". I would think, should that happen, we'd probably see more than a few reforms in the religion.
Until then, the internet is the most effective way of finding out the "other" side of the story.
i have such a love/hate, 50/50 relationship with this organization any more, but a letter was read to the elders and ministerial servants that has pushed me to the 30/70 range in favor of hate, if even momentarily.
most of you if not all are aware of the auxilliary pioneering initiative for this upcoming april.
it's no secret that i'm not real fond of pioneering as its unscriptural for one thing.
Hmmmmm.... Now I know why one of the elders in my hall asked me directly if I was going to pioneer in April... I'm assuming he did not like my answer!
i found this interesting, a 2009 kingdom ministry with reference to the branch office in guam.. .
*** km 2/09 p. 4 announcements ***.
the address for the guam branch office is watchtower bible and tract society, 143 jehovah street, barrigada, gu 96913.. it peaked my curiosity so i decided to see what this street looks like from satellite.
Must be near a catholic building on "rosario loop".
