Read sd-7's story from the beginning.
Date someone on the same path as you. You, on your way out, dating someone, on the way in, may not be such a good idea.
PS. Welcome to the forum!
hey all, i'm new to posting, but i've lurked for a while.
quick intro: i'm a 25 yr old guy, brought up a jw, strayed for a while, then got baptized convinced it was the best thing for me, the rest of the world is satanic, etc.
i overcame that ridiculous belief and i know the truth about "the truth" but my friends and family are all deep into the cult so leaving is a huge risk that i'm not willing or ready to take.
i should know this but have been really slack as of late....i think it was the late 50's maybe?
i would like to know what wt they introduced this new light in.. i also wonder how they kept the rank and file under their control prior to the implementation of df and their loving ways of shunning.....anybody know?....prior to df rules wt may have been a cool place to hang out (not).... i guess you could get drunk, fool around, do drugs all without ramifacations...sounds as good as christendom even................................oompa.

Not sure about the JW,s but the first was Canaan.
Or maybe it was Adam and Eve..
In that case, when did shunning start?

Started early on in the history:
so they have been pushing armageddon off since they began.. we all know the previous dates but right now they are pushing this "overlapping" generation b/s.. .
my bet for the next "new light":.
'matthew 24:14 says that 'this good news will be preached in all the inhabited earth as a witness to all nations and then the end will come' thus wecan conclude that as there are still villages such as those in the peru which have never met white men or outsiders, until those villagers receive the truth, amrmageddon cannot come!
I think they're just going to repeat this ad nauseum
"The end is very near. Yes, some of the brothers are saying that we have been saying that for decades, but they are murmering just like the Israelites in the wilderness. Although the end is taking longer than some of the brothers expect, it is no time to give out. Indeed, if the end was near then, how much nearer are we now!"
i've observed some forum users here that claim to be active witnesses (even claims to be ministerial servants or elders) while duplicitously supporting apostates online.
my contention is this; why attend meetings and/or participate in the preaching activity when the second you divulge your apostate thinking into the congregation, you'll be disfellowshipped?
while this action taken may seem to be harsh, the outworking of events wouldn't be much different in one of christendom's churches.
Sh!t! You mean you can see a poster's IP address when they post on message board?
No. There is a little icon here that is mathematically generated from the poster's IP. They only thing it can really tell you is that if it looks identical, the poster is posting from the same IP address. You can't easily (if at all) determine the IP address from it.
i just remembered something from long ago..... i moved to california in 1974 after i had been in "the truth" for 11 years, having full-time pioneered and also having served time in federal prison over the so-called christian neutrality issue.. i felt completely confident that my bible education was the best on planet earth.
i had honed my skills by door to door preaching, discussion, arguments and attendance at the theocratic ministry school.. i began working as an artist in a huge company that manufactured all kinds of art, sculpture and wall hanging.
the head of the artists was a wonderful young man, skilled artist and devout christian who took me under his wing.
To Pirata..... your completely forgetting that the WTS for more than 80 years requested payment not only from people who bought the magazines and books at the Kingdom Halls, but also the from the people in the door to door ministry. The business aspect of this religious book publishing cult really took off after J Rutherford took control of the publishing operations. Are you forgetting the advertising on the back cover of the Awake magazines, where numerous different items produced by the WTS were sold for at a set price, a price that was well over 400% of the actual production costs ? The WTS has always been a publishing company, the established doctrines were devised to support the WTS circulation and proliferation of its own produced published works. For some people being exploited and duped is just to hard to accept and realize. For most people they can see the exploitation in working process, for some not so obvious.
@thetrueone, I don't argue that the Watchtower has built up a huge publishing empire, and that they have profited from it in the past to expand the organization. But I think that, at least currently, the worry is more on control that it is about money. You have to keep Witnesses busy with meetings, service, and reading literature to prevent the "world's spirit" from infesting the mind. Even if their expenses are larger than donations, they can probably continue for a long time off the profits from selling the Brooklyn properties.
this seems to be a favorite topic to bring up to any witnesses who post on any website where there are any opposers, either here or topix or anywhere.. so, here is the one and only place i will be discussing it.
who can prove that witnesses are specifically told not to post on websites about them?.
AnnOMaly references a quote from the 2006 Watchtower. Does JWN constitute an apostate website? It is overrun with apostates, yes, but it is an open forum after all.
From page 3:
pirata gives us several quotes. First is the simplified Watchtower of 7/15/2011. But the regular magazine makes clear that the reference is to blogs. As I mentioned, this site is more of a public discussion (forum) then a private conversation.
As for the September Kingdom Ministry, this website is not what is described there. The July Kingdom Ministry of the same month is referring to socializing, which is not my intent here. The article also does not forbid associating with persons over the internet, it simply says that there are dangers and that it is dangerous for children.
The September 2002 Kingdom Ministry does not mention forums. If the reference is to my blog, you can see that paragraph 6 is talking about information for the public. My blog is not for the public in general.
Ha ha. You are more for following the "letter of the law" I see.
if you could describe the jehovah's witnesses, in a sentence (no run-ons please) what would it be?.
.
jehovah's witnesses are mostly harmless; just don't join 'em..
Follow the Faithful Slave.

@godrulz
Is it true that all literature given out at the KH must be paid for by the local group? Even if the individual does not pay for it (I imagine contributions are encouraged), then the Hall will pay the bill?
No, there is no correlation between the amount of literature a congregation uses and the amount they donate. Contributions are encouraged. We are never told the real cost of printing, so people just guess how much to contribute.
Can a Witness take a car full of literature for free and give it out all over the place or are there limits? What happens to unused copies?
We are encouraged to leave literature only where interest is shown. But usually people leave magazines at the door even when the householder is taking them to make you go away. Old magazines are usually used for street and business work. Old books are given to new ones for their personal libraries.
Apparently, KH get built by the local group, but any money given by headquarters to pay for it must be paid back. If the group breaks away, WT still owns the building (they had to tighten this up because they got burned once).
Yes. Watchtower gets the title deed once the mortgage/loan has been paid off, as far as I am aware.
