Special Assembly: CO admits the grip is tightning.....

what im about to post is the exact words from the co during the last talk of the most recent special assembly day.

even though im out i still try to keep up with what is being said just cause i find it interesting, and alot of stuff i find funny, but this stuff is starting to get scary, and i fear for my friends who are still in.

It's difficult to know just how "official" this guy's comments were. I think we've all encountered Witnesses with a measure of seniority who tend to run off at the mouth with their own private interpretations. When I was first studying, an elder referred repeatedly to God using anti-matter after Armageddon to remove all the bodies and buildings. Others have similarly talked from the platform of their own wacky theories.

It's possible that, since no one else seems to have heard this comment at a convention, this guy was getting carried away with his own sense of self-grandeur. "Jehovah is USING me right now!" Speakers like that probably do it with the certain knowledge that people will be talking about HIS talk for months.

"Kingdom control" is a phrase the WTS would be trying very hard NOT to use. It's fascinating, and another indication of the bubble circuit and district overseers live in, but I don't think it indicates a trend. My view only, but many thanks for the recording.

the branch committee has decided on a new arrangement during morning worship...wherein the different brothers on the branch committee will transfer to sit at a different table every two months.. this will give opportunity for more of the family to get to know their branch committee members better.. wow!

Wow! and Wow! A few years back my family was invited by relatives who were Bethel inmates to spend a couple of nights at the Australian Bethel. Breakfast was just embarrassing: we made the stupid mistake of thinking we could sit wherever we liked at the table (sorry, all seating places are allocated by the Head of the Table, who is deputised by a Foot of the Table), we infuriated the Head of the Table by passing the food in the wrong direction around the table!!! and because I was trying to dish out food on to my little kids' plates, the plates didn't make their way all around the table before the prayer started, which then led to the Smugness Session. There was a big electronic clock up on the wall counting down as well ... I couldn't work out whether I was surrounded by Nazis or robots.

So now they have come up with a New Arrangement, probably debated over for many hours and, naturally, made after "prayerful consideration". Imagine if it was all true and it was THESE GUYS running a post-Armageddon New Order. We'd be allocated time to crap each morning and be given directions on whether to scrunch or fold the toilet paper. Is there no end to their regimentation???

Randy (or anyone else), are you able to identify all the GB speakers by appearance/voice? Lloyd Barry (or Lord Barry as we used to call him when I lived in NZ and he visited), the New Zealander I know; Barr, the Scotsman, I know. The rest I don't. Who's who?

Others have already highlighted some gems. My favourites:

"I started off in the bindery, stitching booklets. The brother told us to hurry up and put the covers on the booklets because Armageddon was coming. So we hurried up and got the covers on. And Armageddon hasn't come yet, so ..." (6.04) And that doesn't make you wonder if it's all bullshit?

"When you receive a direct invitation from Jehovah through his organization, this is the place he wants you to serve." (Barr, 17.45) So a letter from the branch headquarters is actually a communication from God?

"There's nothing here on this earth to compare with God's organization. There's never been anything, even in Bible times, to compare with what Jehovah has now or what he is doing." (Barry, 18.54). Moses parting the Red Sea, amateur stuff! Manna? Don't make me laugh! Jesus and the apostles healing the sick and raising the dead? Pretenders!

You are so right WontLeave: Among Witnesses there is a dread of displeasing The Organization, which:

Goes beyond the things written with its endless rules, requirements and assumptions;
Judges others;
Places human burdens on followers with the claim that carrying those burdens pleases God;
Overrides Christian conscience with its own dictates;
Confuses programmed, regimented, time-calculated conscripted "service" with Christian good works;
Tickles the ears of its followers;
Forces followers to die out of a dogmatic, ignorant and twisted interpretation of God's laws on eating blood; and
Dishonors God with its concoction of scarey Arnageddon scenarios and petty, exclusivist viewpoints on who God is willing to "save".

The shame of it is that so many of the decent people sickened by the pettiness, control, hypocrisy and lies not only quit the Organization, but abandon God along with it.

Matthew 23:23, 28: "Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who pay your tithe of mint and dill and cummon and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law -- justice, mercy, good faith! You appear to people from the outside like good honest men, but inside you are full of hyporcisy and lawlessness."

in need of a good brochure

i have neighbors that the witness are obviously having a bible study with, they come by weekly in skirts and their 4 door car.. i need a good brochure that i can leave on their door everytime the jw's come by.. can anyone reccomend one?.

Don't mean to be picky, but "discreet" is mis-spelt and reference to the Watch Tower Society should be as two words (Watch Tower) not one.

What is the significance of the question about donations? James Penton's book concluded that most donations do go to running branches and funding missionary activity.

Any brochure should focus on the high level of control exerted over members by the WTS, including the requirement to engage in regular, lifelong field service, with an obligation to report all such activity for ongoing monitoring, and the consequences of leaving the religion (shunning by family and existing members).

That said, it's a good looking brochure.
