  i'm hoping to obtain a copy of the 1939 booklet advice for kingdom publishers.

  it's a 16-page booklet that was written, i understand, to help us publishers as they embarked on the very vigorous witnessing campaigns that were largely aimed at provoking police and governments to take action against them.

  i'm particularly interested in what specific advice they were given about creating or avoiding situations likely to result in their arrest.

  Did anyone see Jackson state "celebrating Christmas not a df'ing offence"?

  i have seen posts on several you tube sites stating that jackson said during his rc testimony that jw's don't shun, celebrating christmas is not a disfellowshipping offence, birthdays are ok and ones doesn't have to agree with jw doctrine.

  i have read most of the posts on other threads while and after his testimony but never read any of this?

  did he really say these things or is someone on the net just stirring up some bs?.

  Jackson: That is not my understanding.

  Even if the JWs decided celebration of Christmas was effectively a voluntary disassociation, Jackson was still lying. And he knew he was.

  Thanks Doug, this seems to be something similar to the Organized to Accomplish Our Ministry books that came later. I think the "Advice" booklet was more specific to the context of witnessing in the face of persecution in the US and Canada.

  and at the end, they say: "we should avoid making specific rules about somewhat technical matters".

  For those attending the sessions, it's a very reassuring sight to see suit-wearing bruvvers with furrowed brows and expressions of very serious concentration striding around the auditorium holding dB meters. I didn't mind helping out on the sound desk at conventions at all -- it was a wonderful way to avoid the sheer boredom of sitting in the stands listening to the shite with everyone else. I reckon if the org could find a way to give every bruvva a job to do so they could avoid sitting there, they would.

  it was pointed out that my 1st post was on page 5 of the recent elders thread and that i should properly introduce myself with a new thread.

  Great to hear your story, Lightgrowsbrighter. My wife and I also found others drawing away from us for discussing some of the reservations we held about issues such as birthdays and field service reports.

  We had a horrid weekend away with two other self-righteous JW couples -- including one young elder -- who spent most of the time rubbishing an elder in the congregation who was a bit of a thinker, very kind and also quite well-off. Over one restaurant meal it became quite nasty when I suggested there was something wrong with the drive to do MORE MORE MORE field service. They were disgusted with the gradual decline in average publisher hours; I suggested that possibly it was declining towards a level that Jehovah was comfortable with, so people could have more balance in their life and feel less pressure. The young arrogant elder stared at me and said, "That sounds like apostasy, brother."

  I realised then that those who took the high moral ground always won any argument; those who took a more liberal approach were treated as suspect. By the time we did make the decision to quit meetings (April 2008) people were steering clear of us. We were invited to a gathering at someone's house for a wedding or engagement and left early when it dawned on us that no one would talk with us. No surprise perhaps that when we did quit meetings, there was no contact at all from elders or anyone else. Maybe they thought it was inevitable.

  Just watched a documentary on the Mormon church and I reckon they have got far more scandal and issues with BS doctrins than the witnesses ever did

  must admit i didn't know a lot about the mormon church, so i decided to spend my saturday night exploring them on you tube.

  after having viewed it i reckon the watchtower dosnt even come close to the scandal and total bs that surrounds the mormon church.

  this is just 2 examples.

  I read Michael Bachelard's excellent book "Behind the Exclusive Brethren" and decided after that the JWs are amateurs when it comes to screwing up people's lives.

  A lot of parallels: a huge amount of deception and self-deception, and a lust for control and vengeance. Arseholes the lot of them.

  Photos on The Age iPad app today show boys who look like 15 and one who would be 13 at most all lining up to be baptised. How many of those will live to regret it? At that age you can barely figure out what job you're looking at let alone signing yourself up for life for a high-control cult.

  Question for those converted to JW as adults

  why did you become a jw, what particular teachings attracted you to 'the truth' ?.

  .

  in my case (baptized at 20/21) it was the only religion i knew; my mom, her mom, and favorite sister were jw; and the teachings of no hellfire or immortal soul made sense to me.. .

  @Pams girl, there is far more honesty and genuine care, thought and expression on this website than there is in the Jehovah's Witnesses. This website has a few dogmatic pains in the butt as well, but that's just life. My wife and I were fortunate enough to stumble on to another couple who were ex-JWs ... and then another, and then another and we often meet up to share our thoughts and common experiences ... and just vent. It has made a huge difference in reclaiming our lives. I'm so very glad you found us here.
