Hope all goes well with your surgery, and you`re up and about quickly. The Doctors know what`s best, (they do surgery all the time), not some Dub.
You`ll be fine I`m sure.

hey everyone!.
i will be going into the hospital for surgery on tues...my first one ever!
the surgeon has gone over the procedure and informed me that it's 'bloody' and so she gave me all my options.

i've been lurking this board the past few days and reading a lot.. i'm a 30 year old male from an unnamed european country, i was brought up "in the faith" by my jw-parents (my father is an elder and was even the "head elder" (i guess that's not the proper english term, english isn't my mother language) for a while, although i believe he stepped down when i faded away, but was reinstated as an elder later.
i never really had any interest in religion or god, not even as a child, even with my perfect jw upbringing.
it always felt like a chore and i did my jw duties, but just the bare minimum i could get away with, living at home with jw parents (attending the 3 meetings every week, and going to do field work 1 hours on saturdays).. at around age 15-16 i got baptized, i was not directly pressured to do it but some hints were made by parents/elders.
Hi, and welcome, I`m from England, you know that bit of an island just to the left of Euroland, with a couple of other countries attached, (their names escape me for the moment)
There is a certain pleasure to be found in Disassociating yourself before they can do it, isn`t there?

i've been watching this site for some time now - it's been a real help - but only recently started to post.
part of the journey i suppose.. 3rd generation jw, served as an elder for > 20 years, talks at dc, pioneer etc - started to fade in last 12 months - will post my story sometime.. anyway, occasionally i still go to a meeting to keep my zealous jw wife away from the elders.. at a recent public talk, the speaker referred to 'millions now living will never die', and said:.
although 'premature', this proclamation was made by zealous anointed ones i.e.
The sad fact is eyesthatsee, is that the majority of todays JW`s have no idea about 1874, 1914, 1925, 1975 etc. That is unless they are brave/rebellious enough to actually do a bit of research on `tinterweb. And then many of them will dismiss the overwhelming evidence of the failled prophecies as Apostate fakes. Although, how they think that the Apostates are colluding to publish all these facts is beyond me.
Can I suggest you read Crisis of Concience by Raymond Franz, he was a member of the GB who saw through the lies and distortions that the WTS keeps coming up with.

this will be my final entry on jehovahs-witness.net.
SD7, thank you for sharing what is obviously a very difficult time for you and your family, what a totally heartbreaking post that was.
I genuinely hope you find peace of mind and happiness, whatever you choose to do.

thinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.
i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.
(so perhap a bit more "enthusiastic" than others).
WtWizard, If I remember correctly we were told to respond to "Merry Christmas" with " I hope you have a nice holiday, or break", which only confused those who were not JW`s.

Not allowed to toast the Bride/Bridegroom/Bridesmaids etc at my sister`s wedding (very embarrasing).
Wedding Anniversary cards could not have pictures of bells/candles/horseshoes etc. (wedding Ann. cards and get well cards were the only ones I can remember you could send).
Standing in a group outside a restaurant to say grace (rather than privately).
Not wishing someone "good luck".
And many others I`ve probably forgot, perhaps others can add to the list.
In the end, I was running on auto-pilot, so I couldn`t be bothered to question the reasons behind these rules.
It must be said that although they were "sticklers" for these small things, they had no problem bending rules of the world, ie tax arrangements etc.
