understanding jw recruiting concepts can help others to leave.
when i first left jehovah's witnesses (jw's), i was somewhat amused at the sheer amount of anti jw websites out there.
while websites like freeminds.org and jwfacts.com are great, (non hysterical sites that stress fact and presentation over emotional responses), there are at least 5 times as many other sites that act as if you should treat a jw at your door like you would a spreader of the ebola virus.. i don't disagree with the fact that jw's are somewhat dangerous and usually go for the low hanging fruit.

Excellent, ths will enable people who may have been scared by WOT rating it as hamful, and thought it contained all sorts of tech nasties, to visit here without worrying.
Also, one up for freedom of speech/expression.

i saw 6 jw zombies walking up a hill near where i live the other day.
they all were dressed nicely.
they walked together in twos.
Hey `cmon, the Allegro was a great car.
The only thing I miss was the times I used to answer using The Living Bible, and not the nwt.....
On second thoughts, no, I miss them like a person misses hemorrhoids.

well for those of you who many not know i gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on the 31st jan, however our joy soon turned to concern when it was discovered our son had breathing problems.
this concern later turned to fear as we learned that he had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (cdh) and that he would need an operation asap.. basically our baby had a hole in his diaphragm and most of his digestive system now resided in his left chest cavity compressing his heart and lungs into the remain space in the right cavity.
this is a very serious condition and much of the information we were given made very bleak reading.
Firstly congratulations on your new baby.
I have wondered from time to time, what a First aid trained JW would do if presented with a DF`d person suffering, say a heart attack.
I didn`t learn 1st aid `til after I left the WTS so I never thought about it.
Anyone know what the policy (spoken or unspoken) is?
Or do Jw`s just not train as 1st aiders?

i was on the phone complaining to my wife how much i owe in taxes this year.
no refund.
she started in about how sister soandso is a pioneer, and since she considers this her career, she claims things like shoes, gas, clothes, and even if she has a part on a circuit or district, she claims the expenses for hotels and such.
"Do Jw`s cheat on their taxes?",well assuming taxes are pretty similar here as they are in the US of A, I would say no.
They do however know how to work the system to their advantage, and if there`s a £0.01 (penny) refund to be claimed, they will claim it, and more.
Although it pains me to say it - good luck to them
ugh! I think I need a shower after typing that!
All the best

wot is a bit like Mcaffee site advisor, what has happened in this case is a couple of Russians have given the site negative ratings on everthing including child safety, spyware etc.
I`ve flagged a complaint a few days ago but it doesn`t seem to do much good, it needs lots more positive feedback, to move the rating out of the red, which with my settings actually blocks the site (if I enable WOT).
The translation says -
"Site inciting religious hatred and enmity among the major religions of the world." in Russian.-
I just disable it when coming here, address to add your comment

this thread is prompted by the thread about a jw woman who disprupted a funeral.
i don't know the details as i can't view youtube from work, but it did get me to thinking.... over the last couple of decades, at least, i've noticed that more and more 'fringe personalities', for a lack of a better term, have infiltrated the ranks of the everyday jws.
true, jws are themselves a fringe element to normal society, but even within their own communities, there used to be a sense of normalcy, or at least seemed to be.. has the cultic message of the wt society started attracting people with different thought processes over this time period?
Where did I fit in to the religion?. Well initially I was genuinely interested in learning about the Bible, and outwardly, the Witnesses as a group seemed to be happy, enthusiastic Christians.
Over the years as I grew older and more experienced in life, through college, work etc. I became dissallusioned, and for quite a while, simply went through the motions, and spent most of the meetings either daydreaming, or or simply just not listening. In the end I found that living a lie was not the way to be and I DA`d myself, packed up and moved to the next county.
I know that work colleages, and family, definately viewed both myself and the WTS as a whole, as all kinds of things, abit "whako", and when I left, after the initial upheaval wore off, I could see their point.
The fact is, JW`s like to be thought of as being "different or strange or deep (as they see it)" it makes them feel special, and backs up all the WTS says.

In my personal experience from the mid 70`s to the late 80`s, in my congregation of perhaps 100, there was one person with genuine learning difficulties, one paedophile - convicted and prisoned, and one Elder who left, and took 6-7 followers and joined the Baptists.
That`s what I knew, and that was only because I was involved with someone who`s Father was an elder. The rest varied from "normal", ie: enjoyed life in their way, to those who lived and breathed eveything the WTS uttered, but still were near enough "normal".
"Were they just better hidden or controlled", almost certainly, the pedo was informed that he must not say in court that he was a JW, and the local newspaper didn`t mention it as far as I can remember.
From what I have learned over the past few months, the WTS has changed in many ways over the last 20 years, so like Scientology etc. I think that being a JW may now attract those who are to a normal "Joe Bloggs", apparent Spacemen. Though, as I personally have no interaction with JW`s at all, it`s pure speculation on my part.
Saying that though, they`re still mad, bad and dangerous, IMHO.
