hello all, i had some questions regarding the booklet 'should you believe in the trinity?
' i should mention that i'm a catholic and my brother is a jw baptised some 15-20 years ago.
since he found 'the truth' he had been quite vocal regarding the manyu, many false teachings of the catholic church.
so I should consult a Rabbi on what Christianity means? Is that what you did? Where is this proof that early bishops inserted new teachings. It sounds like you think the NT is rubbish and not from God.
is the name jehovah as gods name without dispute?
has the wtbs ever addmitted any where that gods name is not actauly known?.
need references for a project of mine please!.
I thought that the name Jehovah came around the 5th century, but regardless of when it came to be, is most definately is not God's name. The 4 letter unpronounceable tetragramatron [spelling?] was used because the Lord's name was never supposed to be spoken. Both Yawey and Jehovah were the result of adding the vowels from lord [adoney] and placing them between the tetragramatron. Atleast, that's what I seem to remember reading. Although it may have been a catholic who coined the term, it is not a catholic teaching. As a matter of fact, the catholic church will not use it because it is a false name or rather a hybrid nickname.
i know i have been hesitant to show my pic on this forum.
i've decided to come out and be proud of the strong ex-jw i am....gradually....you can't see my face in this but i'll try to get up the courage to post it some time in the future....provided outlaw and all you horny apostates don't come on to me.. try to control yourselves, outlaw and john doe.
don't you wish your girlfriend was hot as me?.

1. All the discussions stem from disagreement. They are not the result of anybody knowing anything. They are attempts to refute an interpretation.
2.There are no sources of actual information about the Trinity as far as facts or proof go. It is all assertion based on opinions.
3. There would have to be a communication between the True God and humanity written down and preserved in the original as a proof source for any discussion as as starting point. THERE IS NO PRESERVED ORIGINAL. Consequently: a discussion about the Trinity is a discussion about nothing at all that has substance, fact, proof, certitude or documentation. Assertions based on hearsay are not a good starting point for convictions.
point one- there is proof in scripture, period. When Jesus commands his followers to baptise in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Notice it's not the name of the Father, the name of the Son and the name of the Holy Ghost, it's one name for all three beings.
point two-there is proof in scripture, period. Sure, the word 'trinity' is not present, but the facts to support the word are there for all to see. John1;3 and Colossians1;16-17 state that Jesus created the heavens and earth. Right? Yet scripture is clear that God alone created the universe. 'he that constructed all things is God' Heb3;4, Job9;8, Is44;24, Neh9;6. As to the Holy Ghost Mark 3;29 says that HE can be blasphemed......guess what, only God can be blasphemed.
Point three- Of course there are no original scriptures. Recently, scriptures dating back some 10k years were discovered. They are the oldest fragments currently know of and they were [probably] copies. There is are pages and pages of scriptural proof, it'd just be too long to list here.
Bottom line ? Do real research from reliable sources. I'm sorry, but the lies and lies and lies that I have discovered while researching JW sources means that they are simply not a trustworthy source of information. You've a computer or at least a library. Check for yourself and find the truth.

Hi Leec. thanks for your reply. Recall the 1st question raised is on this thread was 'has anyone researched the claims in the "should you believe" brochure'?
That said, I too was raised as a catholic with 10 years in parochial schools and I will admit that I believed what I was taught, but did not understand it. I actually didn't even care one way or another regarding it's truth or lack there of. I was not a good catholic. I did nothing more than the minimum that most catholics do.
I was blessed beyond measure [or at least much more than I deserved] . It started with my sister's trip to Medjugorje. That is a whole different story, but long story short, as a result of her trip, I emersed myself into serious studies in scripture [from legitamate collegiate academic sources. ]
How does one reconcile all scripture? Answer=Through true studies.
My brother's favorite scriptural quote against Christ as God or the trinity is from Deut6:4 '[known as the Jewish Shema'] "Hear, O Israel:The Lord our God is one Lord".
such evidence is crippling to a catholic, isn't it?
It was to me. And for many years it caused me to leave my faith, I was ignorant to the why.
I am no scholar in languages, but I do have a computer and the freedon to research what is true and false.
Truth- There are 2 words for one in Hebrew. There is 'yachid' meaning only one, something that is solitary.
Then there is the word 'echad' which usaully suggests a synergy of more than one. For example 'day and night became one day', husband and wife became one flesh'.
It is the word echad which discribes Jehovah God without exception. Even 'we made man in our image, according to our likeness'.
It is interesting to note that Jehovah God is always referenced in the plural [like Michael is always referenced in the singular]. I do not mean to sound smug if it appears like that:), but I have to ask ' where do you draw the line on what is accepted as truth in the bible and what is disregarded as lies or false teachings?

Hi Yesidid. Thanks for your input. You didn't answer the question though, [about research]. And although I'm not walking in your shoes either, if we believe a lie, then our faith is in vain, isn't it?
Thanks to JWfacts. Wow, you did your homework looking at your extensive work.

Thanks Burn, Wow, a lifelong JW becoming a catholic. How does that happen? I hope your family understood, but I realize that is probably not the case. I appreciate the welcome...did you know that this was my first post ever?

Hello all, I had some questions regarding the booklet 'Should you believe in the trinity?' I should mention that I'm a catholic and my brother is a JW baptised some 15-20 years ago. Since he found 'the truth' he had been quite vocal regarding the manyu, many false teachings of the catholic church. Although I disagreed with his position, I must admit that I found his conviction strong. My question is has any JWs actually ever researched this booklet to see if the claims are accurate? Are there any JWs familiar with the writings of the church fathers [Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, Hippolytus, Origen, or Ignatius of Antioch? My brother has admitted that he has only studied watchtower books regarding their beliefs. There are complete writings from all of these men, has anyone ever read any of their works?
