regarding what some have said here about the wt being a false prophet.. i would like to make my point regarding the wt not being a false prophet... so please, if you can be patient enough to read this, at least try to understand what i am getting at.. a false prophet is one who, according to deuteronomy, makes a false prediction of the future and claims that the prediction came from god, or in other words claiming that 'god has said he will do a certain thing at a certain time' etc.. for example, hypothetically speaking, if someone had claimed: "god will bring about the end of the world in 2010", they would have been proven to be a false prophet, obviously.
but, as an example, imagine a man who claimed the position of a prophet of god, (as moses did, because although he was not the type of prophet that predicted the future.. he was still a prophet or spokesman for god) and that he had publicised worldwide, according to his interpretation of a (for example) prophecy found in the book of isaiah, that the world would end in 2010.. and he had also stated that he was not saying that god will end the world in that year.. but only that there was biblical evidence that god might do so.
that would clearly have been a mistake.

The WTS always compare themselves to the apostles when they try to point out that they are not false prophets
Interesting. Are there examples of the apostles giving prophesy as a group? I know there was the Jerusalem council, but I am unaware of the group of apostles prophesizing as a group like the WTS.

What a topic. 5 pages in no time. My topics barely get a reply.....but I digress.... After reading all of these posts, I haven't read anyone mention about a group of prophets. What I mean to ask is this-
Is there any time in history when a group of people were considered prophets? I ask because my understanding is that there were many prophets who proclaimed God's will as related to them personally. The WTS states that they are a group proclaiming God's will. Has there ever been such a thing in the scriptures or anywhere else?

the virgin now comes to bethlehem to give birth to christ .
who has become an infant in the flesh.. .
christ has voluntarily become poor.. christ has become visible.. let heaven and earth rejoice.
what,no Santa Clause?
to be fair, translating the bible is a huge undertaking, and in doing so, there are bound to be mistakes, or even limits to a committee's knowledge.
obviously, we cannot read the hearts of the four translators of the new world translation committee to know when they consciously or subconsciously altered renderings in to support doctrinal bias.
but more and more, i do come across things that feel askew to me.
Another example of bias in translating that has yet to be brought up is 2 Peter 1;1 Compare the NWT with others and see this bias. Although, interesting to see the New American Standard translation too [halfway down]
NWT- 2Pet 1; 1 Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith, held in equal privilege with ours, by the righteousness of our God and [the] Savior Jesus Christ:

now theres, sound of music, its a wonderful life, philadelphia story, the great esacape... what else though?.
Talesin mentioned the best Christmas Carol film that I think is the best. (Alistair Sims 1951) was great in it, but not only him. All of the supporting cast was exceptional, I thought.

its not like he had access to oxygen, light, fresh water or food.
what about the digestive jucies in the belly?.
please correct me if i'm wrong, but surely this just can't be possible?.
As Billy stated "Jonah is 100% satire. Only religious fanatics take it seriously."
I'd say that you could apply that to the whole bible. I mean who would believe any of it?
Besides me and many others here that is.

what is your take on players in all sports who feel the need to connect their athleticism with god's will.
tebow of the denver broncos is the latest in a long line of players who either thank jesus or point a finger to heaven when they score a touchdown or slam some guys head into a concussion.. oddly you don't see bowlers doing the same praise jesus dance for knocking over some pins, i guess its not that exciting to jesus .
While it is true that this topic is 'fluff' and fun. I think that it is also significant to know that the Saints winning the superbowl was a good thing for the people of New Orleans. Sure, it wasn't life changing, but after the devestation of Katrina, it help the city feel good and that's a good thing, isn't it?
I think it was similar to many football fans when the Patriots won in 2001 after the world trade center attacks. Both at the time were classified underdogs who overcame great odds.
Not life changing, no, but sometimes feeling good is good enough.
just mho,

i had a ritual growing up every time we traveled to an assembly or convention.
in the hotel i would always take a look at the gideon bible's that were always stored in one of the drawers.
immediately upon finding it i would open up to psalms 83:18 to check if the bible had god's name within it.
I wonder what the interlinear says. Just thinking out loud.

It's Jerry Jones that he hates. Not Rob Ryan, though, He may think Rob needs a little humble pie, I think he truely hates JJ. Too bad about the Bills. I think someone in Buffalo dumped on Tim Tebow, so they're all done.
We'll see if God loves Tebow more than the Pats this weekend. Certainly Tebow is not ashamed of our Lord. Never hear Tom Brady praise Jesus...and he should considering the wife he has.
Go Pats!
