  Are JWs forgetting Jesus altogether?

  a relative sent me yesterday's wt study article 46, how jehovah guarantees his promise of paradise.. it's been a long time since i read one of those articles but what really struck me about this one is that, considering it's discussing a fundamental jw belief, it only mentions jesus twice as an aside, and not at all as the central figure like the bible does.

  it actually mentions satan far more in the same article!.

  i don't remember this discrepancy from my time in the org 15 years ago.

  I always thought it quite odd that JWs promote themselves as [the only true] Christians but without Christ. Only a passing mention. Like HE'S not worthy of the attention and respect. Maybe I've got it wrong.

  the bible does not say that god does not want to lie, but that he cannot lie or it is impossible for god to lie.

  .

  so, if god cannot lie, for what purpose and why did he create creatures (satan, demons, humans) who can lie?.

  God (of course), knew about the fall of mankind and allowed it. Just as he knew about the fall of angels and allowed it. Free will AND, to bring a greater good from it. What the greater good is? I don’t know, but I do have faith that my master is good.ttwsyf

  i’ve decided to disassociate from the jw organisation.

  i cannot be part of a community that blatantly rejects the sacrifice of jesus in that demonic memorial ritual.

  amazing what information you find when you start researching.. i’m writing my letter and posting it to the kingdom hall this morning.

  i've noted before certain similarities between jws and independent fundamentalist baptists, such as door to door work.

  the ifbs call it "soul winning".

  the goal is usually to give a quick tour of a few bible verses, get the householder to "repeat after me" a formulaic prayer confessing faith in jesus.

  Bible is explicit in citing works and faith with the understanding that faith illicits works that when pleasing to God produces good fruits.

  No fruits? Then the works were not pleasing to God. Pretty easy to see if your prayers and works are efficacious. Just saying, cause it’s true.

  To be saved from your sins takes a lot more than saying a 'sinners prayer' or inviting Jesus into your heart or any other option where the sinner does not have to change their behavior.

  Teaching that you are saved through an acceptance of a faith or a prayer without changing your behavior will not save you.

  Jesus said that many would say 'Lord, Lord' and HE said 'away from me, I never knew you'

  HE wants us to cloth the naked, feed the hungry, teach the ignorant, tend to the sick and elderly and basically live the teaching of 'love thy neighbor'

  If you think that you're saved by being a Christian without acting like one, you're in for a rude awakening.

  if you once were fully pimi and truly believed jw doctrine to the core like i once did, when you come to the reality that it is not the truth at all it can be extremely devastating.. i think only other ex jws could ever understand.

  i wasted my entire life i thought the real life was yet to come to wasted the best years knocking on doors.

  now i’m so angry.. i can understand why so many top themselves when they realise it was all lies..

  TTWSYF : Isn’t it bizarre that an organization that boastfully prides itself on “true” scriptural interpretation would look suspiciously at theological studies?

  Not at all. Theological studies often includes source criticism, form criticism, redaction criticism, tradition criticism and/or canonical criticism, all of which discount inspiration of the scriptures. They say there are no atheists in foxholes. It is truer to say there are no believers in theological colleges.

  Earnest, criticism is the beginning of solid reasoning. Criticism is a good thing. It makes you think and reason. Then you make decisions based on solid reasoning. It’s not to be feared, it’s to help us all grow in knowledge and faith. The folks that I’ve met that have studied (seriously, not WT and Awake) are into their studies to become closer to the Lord. You shouldn’t be afraid of legitimate criticism.
