Did You Know A Lot Of "Very Intelligent" JWs?
by minimus inin my lifetime of knowing jehovah's witnesses, i recognized very few as being extremely intelligent.

Having a good memory is not my idea of "intelligent". To me intelligence implies reasoning and critical thinking, some of which requires "natural" ability, and some of which requires learning the finer points of the skill.
I would describe "my" JW as being very intelligent, but having her otherwise natural curiosity about things stifled by the life of a "born-in" who was home-schooled for much of her childhood. She is exceptionally quick to learn new skills even when the teaching was less than adequate. For example, I personally "taught" her how to use Abode Dreamweaver although I had never used it before and struggled to figure out enough in real time to help her complete projects for a class she was taking; basically she taught herself, with very little real help from me, even though she knew next to nothing about computers other than how to use email, IMs, AOL, Facebook, and the like.
On the other hand, I always found it strange how, in any number of random discussions, she never seemed very interested in getting very 'in-depth' about things she hadn't heard about before. Any kind of facts were typically received with an attitude of "that's nice" and then moving on to something completely different.
It seems likely, from what I know now, that her natural sense of curiosity about the world was stifled by the deemphasis of paying attention to "wordly" things. It's really a hellish shame that university education is considered optional at best. It seems to me that teenagers who go on to college after high school develop much better critical thinking skills than others. This is probably why higher education is deemphasized by the WTS in the first place.

Zid -- an honest reaction: some of the individual strips lack enough of a punchline for me ... but I am completely in awe of your drawing -- you know exactly how to show facial/body gestures. Brilliant!

Two from the Buzzcocks pretty well summarize me at the moment:
I Believe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foSC0rujhwQ
In these times of contention
it's not my intention
to make things plain.
I'm looking through mirrors
to catch the reflection
that can't be mine.
I'm losing control now
I'll just have to slow down
a thought or two.
I can't feel the future
and I'm not even certain
that there is a past.
I believe in the Worker's Revolution
and I believe in the Final Solution
And I believe in ...
I believe in ....
I believe in The Shape Of Things To Come
And I believe I'm not the only one
Yes, I believe in ...
I believe in ....
When I poison my system
I take thoughts and twist them
into shapes.
I'm reaching my nadir
and I haven't an idea
what to do.
I'm painting by numbers
but can't find the colours
that fill you in.
I'm not even knowing
if I'm coming or going,
if to end or begin.
I believe in the Immaculate Conception
and I believe in the Resurrection
And I believe in ...
I believe in ....
I believe in The Elixir of Youth
And I believe in The Absolute Truth
Yes, I believe in ...
I believe in ....
There is no love in this world anymore!
There is no love in this world anymore!
I've fallen from favour
while trying to savour
Experience.
I'm seeing things clearly
but it has quite nearly
blown my mind.
It's the aim of Existence
to offer resistance
to the flow of time.
"Everything is
and that is why it is"
will be the line.
I believe in Perpetual Motion
And I believe in Perfect Devotion
I believe in ...
I believe in ....
I believe in the things I've never had
and I believe in my Mum and my Dad
And I believe in ...
I believe in ....
There is no love in this world anymore!
There is no love in this world anymore!
I'm skipping the pages
of a book that takes ages
for the foreword to end.
Triangular cover
concealing another
aspect from view.
My relative motion
is just an illusion
from stopping too fast.
The essence of being,
these feelings I'm feeling,
I just want them to last.
I believe in Original Sin
And I believe what I believe in
Yes, I believe in ...
I believe in ....
I believe in the Web of Fate
And I believe I'm going to be late
So I'll be leavin
What I believe in.
There is no love in this world anymore! You Say You Don't Love Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_1lqPjmsII
You say you don't love me.
Well that's alright with me
cos I'm in love with you.
And I wouldn't want you doing things you
don't want to do.
Oh you know I've always wanted you
to be in love with me.
And it took so long to realize
the way things have to be:
I wanted to live in a dream
that couldn't be real.
And I'm starting to understand now
the way that you feel.
You say you don't...
You say you don't...
You say you don't love me.
Well that's alright with me cos
I have got the time...
To wait in case someday you maybe
change your mind.
I've decided not to make the same
mistakes this time around.
As I'm tired of having heartaches,
I've been thinking and I've found:
I don't want to live in a dream,
I want something real.
And I think I understand now
the way that you feel.
You say you don't...
You say you don't...
You say you don't love me.
Well that's alright with me,
I'm not in love with you.
I just want us to do the things
we both want to do.
Though I've got this special feeling
I'd be wrong to call it love,
For the word entails a few things that
I would be well rid of.
I've no need to live in a dream,
it's finally real.
And I hope you now understand
this feeling I feel.
You say you don't....
You say you don't....
You say you don't love me.
You say you don't love me.
You say you don't love me.... -

If anyone has an hour to spare to watch this excellent and very relevant documentary, I can't recommend it highly enough.
Summary: In The Warning, veteran FRONTLINE producer Michael Kirk unearths the hidden history of the nation's worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. At the center of it all he finds Brooksley Born, who speaks for the first time on television about her failed campaign to regulate the secretive, multitrillion-dollar derivatives market whose crash helped trigger the financial collapse in the fall of 2008.

Onereason for a gentleman fader to stay reasonably associated...
by whataburger inone congregation phenomenon i have observed in a variety of halls - older, not so model material brothers have a real chance with younger, attractive sisters - and often at the prodding of the young sisters parents and congregation members.. and if you have a little more scratch than the average jw brother (which isn't hard to do with a bunch of window washers), you really have an advantage.. a 40 year old man walking through the mall would have zero chances with an attractive 18+ year old girl.
but take that same man, who has been faithfully attending meetings and doing all the right things and put him in the kingdom hall and suddenly anything is possible.. sad, but true.. of course, who wants all the drama that comes with a girl that young - but it is something i have observed.. when i was in my early 20's and came back into "the truth", and i had a few dollars - and i had so many sisters tripping all over themselves for me... and the ages range from late teens to late 30's.
it was crazy.

I know my "observation" is just selective opinion, but is based on these coincidences:
- when reading various threads on here where members have posted photos of themselves and spouses, bfs, gfs, etc ... many of the women have been attractive, some extremely so (not coveting, just observing )
- on the occassions when JWs have shown up at my door, when I used to answer to chat with them, more often than not when there were women, at least one of them was very pretty ... one time in particular, a full-on southern california goddess
- the young lady who has scrambled my brains with an eggbeater, causing me to arrive here in a heap of dizzy confusion ... well, she is just stunning beyond words, almost beyond thought itself. I even think her mother is attractive, and I'm never attracted to older women.
p.s. ....
FWIW I become attracted by the face, and in particular the eyes. I'm not really one for heels or enormous cleavage or any of these other typical things many guys focus on. And about the face and eyes, it's partly the physical appearance, my own subjective tastes etc, but at least as much is the personality which appears through facial expressions and the inner-self projecting through the eyes from deep inside.

I Wish People Would Stop Calling It The Truth
by Quillsky inwhy do you call it "the truth"?

it's wrong on so many levels.

But even better, I hear "the accurate truth" ... as if truth needs to be qualified. It almost seems like an unintentional confession of it not being truth in the first place.
