  i just read an article about increasing numbers of people who spend their time online rather than off line.

  their freinds are online and not physicaly there as well.. then i started thinking about the dubs, who live in a fanstay of paradise coming soon etc etc.

  Don't ask questions

  several weeks ago, a witness poster said that the rank and file at his cong were told by elders not to ask questions.

  i may have misunderstood what the poster was saying.

  has anyone on the forum heard anything like this?

  I wish I could understand the discrepancies between what I read here and I what I am told by T when I have asked her about how things work. I actually did ask her a few weeks ago this exact question -- if people at the meetings are allowed to ask questions, and she said something to the effect that - yes, of course they are ... her mother asks questions all the time and no one ever gets upset.

  Aside from just being lied to, I suppose it does depend a lot on the type of question she inferred. Is it a probing question, a rhetorical question, a question which confirms or expands on the statement being questioned, etc. I assume the probing questions are the one's that get people into trouble, and I guess that's not what T inferred I was talking about when I said "questions".

  Need some support

  i don't post very often but i'm in need of some support.. i left my husband and the jw's back in the summer.

  we have 3 kids and have joint custody of them.. i've spoken to my family once - back in the fall and it was a great conversation - my parents (dad is an elder) said that they just wanted me to be happy however that is.. last week i got a voicemail from my mom saying that she loved me and thought about me every day.

  i was so happy.

  I think the essential issue here is that they (the parents, ex, etc) are doing an excellent job making you feel bad. It is natural to move away from what makes us feel bad, even if there is nothing especially good to move towards. Lack of pain is a net positive gain over continued pain.

  I'm bringing up this simple cause/effect aspect of it because I've been thinking about this regarding my own issues with getting involved with someone of the JW faith. I've been realizing that as they move deeper into this religion, if I draw closer to them my pain increases. If I distance myself, my pain decreases. Similar principle to the hand/stove reaction, only more difficult to learn.

  as one who has been wanting a flat screen tv really badly, i took this story very hard.. what would drive someone to such madness?.

  my first thought it was 'oldhippie' had seen something on tv he didn't like.

  somebody making fun of the geico lizzard and he decided to even the score.

  i was just watching a documentary on polygamist ldses in canada and i hear them dropping terms like "apostate" and "worldly" ... and i'd never heard either of those terms in my entire life until i started spending time in the company of jws.

  have i led a sheltered life?
