Mind Control & Urban Legends
by freeman inwitness urban legends.
you know what they are; we have all heard them before.
the stories that somehow show the witnesses or their teachings in a good light but always seem to contain elements that would seem preposterous to most people.

What a coincidence! We were just chatting about breastfeeding. I can't wait to tell my grandmother about the blood cells! She would say something like 'I'm not going to go ahead of the great chariot of the organization. They'll come out with some new light on this.'

cruel?
by qadreena ini remember going on field service with a pioneer sister then afterwards she asked me to accompany her to look in on one of her studies, i said yes and ended up in the house of a really nice indian lady.
my friend had offered to take this lady's daughter off her hands for a while and take her down the park so off we went - nice summer day, we sat while the little girl played on the swings and slides, we brought a bit of food and went back to the park to sit down and eat, as we were eating, the girl started talking about armageddon.
the conversation was getting along nicely - little girl slowly being succesfully brainwashed...... the poor little 8 year old girl ended up in tears - she was scared of the earthquakes and didnt want to die, she didnt want her mother to die, and even though she believed they would both be together in paradise earth, her dad would die and stay dead, nothing my friend could to cheer her up so i coaxed her into going back on the swings and all was well till it was time for her to go home and the tears started again when she told her mother of her concerns.

Yes that was very cruel. When I was little my mom thought she was 'anointed'. My siblings and I used to cry and cry because we didn't want her to go to heaven, we wanted her to stay on earth with us.
We would go to gatherings and play a game called 'great trib'. It was for the kids. Whenever this one elder Bro. L screamed out 'great trib' we had to freeze and be perfectly silent until he gave the signal. It was supposed to be practice for the real thing, in case we had to go into hiding. They start that fear factor stuff from the crib.

April,
You have me at work cracking up about this thread! I remember one day I was real mad at the JWs. This elder had tried to preach to me one morning before I got on the bus to go home from work. I had worked all night and was tired, and he was trying to show me some Awake mag. He had a little boy with him, looking like a miniature elder, and that was really what set me off. I remembered being dragged out in the street witnessing and door to door work in the cold sub zero weather and scorching hot summer days. Well, I told him off big time. Then when I got home, some witnesses came to my door. I just opened the door, and said, "I was a witness for over 20 years and I just found out it is a cult. Goodbye." and closed the door.
My husband was angry with me for doing that. He reminded me how devout and deluded I was when I was a JW. When we first started dating he told me a story about a crazy man who liked to come to the door naked when the JWs came to the door. I did not think that it was funny back then.

I know that this is my third post on this, but I just read the Salon.com article. It sounds to me like somebody is trying to get rich off of poor Cassie Bernhall's death. That's sad. Using fear tactics to try to turn people to God. That sounds like the JW brand of Christianity.

Where was the play being performed? Was that for a church function, or was it being used to make new converts? If that was for a church event, I don't necessarily find it all that offensive. But if used for evangelism purposes, I don't think that it is necessary to try and capitalize off a tragedy to turn people to Christ. The Bible speaks for itself and it doesn't need a sales pitch. 'Turn to God or die like the Columbine Kids' No, I don't think so.

Were the shooters at Columbine athiests? I hadn't heard that. I saw a book about that young woman at a Christian book store. I hope and pray that someone is not just trying to get financial gain from a tragedy. I don't know about the bad athiest/good christian thing. There have been some pretty horiffic crimes committed by so-called Christians. Who was that guy in Waco, Texas? Didn't he say he was a Christian?

Flower,
Email me, girlfriend. I used to chat with another young lady on the support4xjws.org board, and we talked about the differences in leaving the JW for African-Americans. Actually, our whole experience as JWs has alot of different nuances, but I guess that's with any religion. This is not to diminish anyone else's support to be sure! All words of love and encouragement are essential to the healing process. It's just another thing in common that we have. Your story sounds so much like mine. That depression and self hate is real especially when fear and mind control tactics have been used on you since you were a child.
I am definitely going to pray for you. For your recovery and for your deliverance from a lifetime of brainwashing. This is not to sound like a 'holy roller', but the prayers of others helped me. Jesus loves you, flower, and he has not forgotten you. Jehovah has not turned his back on you and you have not turned your back on him. His arms are open wide and waiting to embrace you.
Email me if you want to talk more, because I don't want to offend anyone on this board.

Hi Flower and everyone else. I guess from my screen name you all can see that I do believe in God. First off, let me say why I believe in God. I have faith, because he has answered my prayers. I believe God because I have seen what has occurred in the lives of people who have opened their hearts and embraced him. When I get on my knees in my prayer room, I feel his presence.
There were times in my struggle with leaving the JWs that I thought I couldn't make it mentally. I felt that all my strength was gone, and I just wanted life to be over. I didn't know how to pray, and I didn't pray. Other people in my life prayed for me, and I believe that God sustained me through those times. I'm not going to try and condemn anyone's belief system, but I'm happy with mine.
Some people here have commented on the 'Once saved always saved' doctrine of some Christian faiths. I don't accept this. I believe that God wants us to live holy as he is holy, but that we are unable to do this without HIM. The whole point of the apostle Paul's speech in Romans 6-7 was to prove that he was unable to live sinlessly without the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.
As far as proving that God exists, well that's an interesting study. How do you prove that your spouse loves you? Is it because of the things they do for you? Is it because of how they support you and make you feel? Well, the bible says that God is Love. I can prove that he loves me because of how he has blessed my life.
Alot of people use horrible things that happen, like the WTC bombings to try to prove that God doesn't exist. I believe in the bible and that God has left it up to mankind to choose HIM. The blood of innocent people that is shed does not go unavenged by God. I also feel that God's view of death is not like ours. If your soul is immortal, then death is not an end. Jesus never referred to anyone as being 'gone' when they died, but only sleeping. God may not stop bad things from occurring, but he freely gives his love to those hurting and will provide comfort.
