please direct your attention to the current issue of discovery magazine.
as we all know, there is considerable exchange of this precious bodily fluid among people who kiss, i.e., everyone.
of course among jws that's supposed to include only the married or soon to be.
Here is the article from discover.com. Do a search on plasma and saliva and you'll pull the article right up
R&D News of science, medicine, and technology Beyond Breathalyzer by Fenella Saunders When police in the United States pull over a driver on suspicion of "driving under the influence," about half the time that influence turns out to be illegal drugs. Proving the presence of drugs requires a blood test that takes weeks to analyze. So LifePoint, a medical diagnostics company in California, has developed a way to test for up to 10 drugs in five minutes by examining saliva. "Basically your saliva is made from plasma, the liquid portion of blood," says Linda Masterson, president of LifePoint. Measuring the drug levels in spit, along with its acidity, can provide an accurate read of the dose present in a person's bloodstream. LifePoint's device uses a pump to draw saliva into 10 columns, each containing an antibody that reacts with a specific drug. If any of that substance is present, the antibody binds to the drug and releases a fluorescent compound. This process, invented by the Navy, was used to search for airborne particles from chemical weapons during the Gulf War. LifePoint's Impact system has undergone pilot trials in 10 countries and is now being tested in the United States. | |||

at the district convention, the highlight was always said to be the dramas.
did you really look forward to them?
was there one that ever stood out?
I actually liked the dramas. Especially the ones that had everyone in costume. Compared to the rest of the boring convention, the drama was always the high point for me (after the lunch break/single's mingle).
since you've left the "truth", are you now, finally, happy?
I am a happy ex-JW. I do have to also agree with Stinkypantz though. There are times when I really miss my JW friends and wonder what their lives are like. I have all new friends now, but there's something about the people you spent your childhood with. My family is another issue. My family is so dysfunctional that them shunning me is a blessing (only a few of them actually shun me). I had a lot of issues as a JW, so I can honestly say that I'm happier now than I ever was while I was in.
ok, i'll admit it.
i've seen it twice, and i'm going to see it again saturday.. i even take my daughter and her friends as cover (lol).. some of you know my daughter is on the drumline at her school, and next year she'll be stepping up to the big time as she joins a nationally ranked marching band in the area.
she happens to play snare drum, which is the instrument featured in the movie and damn she is good.
I am a band geek and proud! It's funny, the only reason my mom let me be in band is because it was mandatory for music department students. I would've gotten an F in concert band if I wasn't in marching band. I kind of felt like a normal kid being able to go to the football games!
this subject has bothered me for 5 years now.. eventually the day will come where i'll need to tell my folks i'm no longer a jw.
my oldest son (who is 3) is getting to the age where he talks about everything from birthday cakes to christmas trees.
we were able to get away with birthdays and holidays so far, but now is becoming increasingly difficult to stop him from talking about them when the family's around.. should i write a letter?
I think that by the time I actually told my family, they already knew. I have little children that love singing Christmas carols, and sharing what they got on their birthdays. At first, my family assumed that my husband (who was never a JW) did these things for them.
They figured it out when I refused their invitations to the memorial and circuit assemblies and district conventions. Eventually, I got tired of being evasive. I was like, 'I'm an adult and this is my life, dangit!' I told my grandmother and mom that I attend church, and after screaming and ranting about me being an apostate they pretty much let it go. I have a couple of family members that choose to practice shunning, however, I didn't like them much to begin with!
the reverend al sharpton announced that he is running for president.
can you imagine him beating bush?
not me.
As much as I would like to see an African American in office, I don't think I could ever vote for Mr. Al Sharpton. A perfect example of his asinine agenda was his supporting a boycott of the movie Barbershop. The Black American community has more pressing concerns than a comedic movie. Thumbs down to Al Sharpton. Now Denzel Washington...I would vote for him. :)
is it morally wrong?
obviously it's illegal to kill a rapist, unless maybe they are caught in the act.
but to premeditate the killing of a child rapist?
Did you all see the movie 'A Time to Kill'? It's about this very topic. I'm not really a supporter of capital punishment, but it makes more sense to me that a child rapist be executed as opposed to maybe a drug dealer killing a fellow drug dealer. I wouldn't cry either!
how many of you on this forum were born into the jw faith?
do you think this put you at a disadvantage when leaving the org.
do you think that someone who becomes a witness later in life would have an easier time adjusting back to a "normal" life?
Yes. Third gen. When I first left, I was depressed and suicidal, because I didn't have anyone around me. I felt as if I was alienated from God, and of course my family and friends avoided me. I can't say that I was shunned, because if I saw or ran into anyone they would speak to me if only briefly.
I couldn't go back, though. I was too ashamed. The elders and elder's wives grapevine had completely ruined my reputation, not to mention my ex-boyfriend telling all the details of our sordid affair to anyone who would listen. I had formerly been very theocratic (auxiliary pioneer) and I'm from a pioneer family. My family had no status though, because my dad (the son of a PO) divorced my mom when I was little. He never became an elder himself (much too vocal about his doubts).
Now, I finally became part of life again when my boyfriend invited me to his church. I would secretly attend services, even going so far as parking my car around the corner and walking a block and a half to the entrance. I'm completely out of the closet now, though. My family knows I'm a Christian, and some of them shun me (sister, aunts) but most of them just tolerate it.
Holidays still feel a little funny for me. Mostly, I end up sharing with my children the Christian origins for the holidays and kind of staying away from what is classified as Pagan. For instance, we celebrate Christmas, but without the tree and Santa Claus. We exchange gifts and talk about the birth of Christ. On Easter we go to church, eat a big dinner, and talk about the gift of Christ's ransom.
i have to confess to being a weak ohio state university fan....that said: .
