  i just got off of the phone with my wife, and she's been researching my beliefs (catholic) and wants to discuss what she's found.

  several subjects like marion worship, sacrifice of the mass etc.

  i told her sure i'll discuss them with you, but i get equal time to discuss problems with your religion.. to make a short story long she agreed but she wants me to discuss important things things i fear may put her in jeapordy spiritually.

  She just faded away, we were dating and there were lots of whispers and a visit by the elders and then she just faded out.
  Last summer she was considering joining the Catholic church and prayed for guidence and lo and behold a JW shows up a week later AHHH A SIGN FROM GOD! like they wern't in my neighborhood every 6 weeks anyway. I think 9-11 had something to do with it too.
  Anyway I'm your kinda Catholic, I think everyones personal relationship with god is the most important. I even volunteered to go as a family to a non-denom church and I could recieve the Eucharist on my own time. I think that a family has to have a common religious background something to share, some kind of unity.
  Also officially the church feels that if you believe in Christ and are a good person you're O'tay. Don't worry I don't judge anyone That's not my Job.

  Outnfree, In all of my studies of mary and all that that's the first time I had heard of that theory on Mary.

  I'm Catholic my wife is a born-in JW, she was away from the dub for 12 years, now she's back and blah blah blah.

  Larc. I'm not sure that is the one to go with unless I go about it as trying to show that the GB are not speaking for God and then let her push and try to prove it and then drop the failed predictions on her twords the end.

  does anyone have or know of a "full and complete list of misquotations of the watchtower" if not would anyone like to help compile this list.

  i'm sure that we could find someone who would host an article or paper on this subject.

  i was thinking of a list or paper without any inflamatory wording or language that we could just hand to a jw and they would read without dismissing it as "full of hate" or appostate etc.

  From Should You Believe in the Trinity

  Critics of the doctrine say that it is not a Bible teaching, one history source even declaring: "The origin of the [Trinity] is entirely pagan."-The Paganism in Our Christianity.

  This source trashes all of Christianity, not just trinity and is a satanic quote! It is the Watchtower "Star Witness" to prove trinity is pagan used several times in this booklet. Click on link for a real eye opener!

  "Beyond the Grasp of Human Reason"

  THIS confusion is widespread. The Encyclopedia Americana notes that the doctrine of the Trinity is considered to be "beyond the grasp of human reason."

  The disciples of Jesus were the humble common people, not the religious leaders

  The full quote is: ""It is held that although the doctrine is beyond the grasp of human reason, it is, like many of the formulations of physical science, not contrary to reason, and may be apprehended (though it may not be comprehended) by the human mind."

  Further, Paul, who wrote 1/2 the New Testament said that the trinity and the incarnation of Jesus "great is the mystery of godliness" 1 Tim 3:1. Peter said of the same Paul, "our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction" 2 Peter 3:15f.

  Thus, A Dictionary of Religious Knowledge says: "Precisely what that doctrine is, or rather precisely how it is to be explained, Trinitarians are not agreed among themselves."

  A few sentences later, "It is not possible for the human intellect to comprehend fully the divine nature." Lyman is not only talking about the Trinity, but the nature of God in general! Do JW's understand the nature of God? No! But what is worse, Lyman trashes the whole of Christianity, not just the Trinity!

  On Tuesday, my wife had a talk in the Ministry School. It was taken from
  the Reasoning book and was on the subject of evolution.

  One of her arguments contained a quote from Carl Sagan that seemed to
  support creation. It said:

  "Carl Sagan, in his book Cosmos, candidly acknowledged 'The fossil evidence could
  be consistent with the idea of a great designer.'" - Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985, p124

  This didn't make any sense to me, since Carl Sagan is well known as an
  evolutionist and athiest. So I looked up the quote. Here is what it really
  said:

  "The fossil evidence could be consistent with the idea of a great designer;
  perhaps some species are destroyed when the Designer becomes dissatisfied
  with them, and new experiments are attempted on an imperfect design.
  But this notion is a little disconcerting. Each plant and animal is exquisitly
  made; should not a supremely competent Designer have been able to make
  the intended variety from the start? The fossil record implies trial and error,
  an inability to anticipate the future, features inconsistent with an efficient
  Great Designer (although not with a designer of a more remote and indirect
  temperment)." - Cosmos, p29

  As you can see, the Society took 1/2 a sentence out of context and used
  it to imply that Carl Sagan said exactly the opposite of what he actually said.

  ok here's the deal..... i've not had much to do w/ my parents since jan '02 when my mother and i got into over her force feeding my 3 year old the "troof".

  when i respectfully ask her on behalf of myself and my non jw husband, to respect us enough to let us teach our child about religion.... her response was "well if you don't want her around our religion, then don't bring her around us".

  and during the course of this conversation she stated this in the most hateful of tones at least 4 or 5 times to both me and my husband, in front of our daughter.... well i was furious.... that she would say such a thing and openly chose to have nothing to w/ my daughter.. without being given an ultimatum<sp> to choose.

  Hey Wg,
  I think that they have blinked. Stand your ground and stick to your no religion discussion. But they are initiating the contact. Let him or them see her, but no religion. If they bring it up tell them I thought we had discussed this, I raise my child you just love her, NO Religion discussion. If they want to discuss religion they have to discuss it with you. But they are not allowed to discuss it with your child.
