i was raised a catholic, still catholic, and have never heard a good reason why some people dislike catholicism.
Grand point, I forgot that on Cult, I thought cults where high control groups that are semi-secretive rip off thier members etc etc. Why?

Reading one of the other threads got me thinking. What is the root of anti-catholic sentiment. I was raised a Catholic, still Catholic, and have never heard a good reason why some people dislike Catholicism. My wife is anti-Catholic and I just don't get it.
Anyway I respect the posters here for their grasp of reality, knowledge of the Bible. What do you think is unchristian, unbiblical, and bad about the Catholic Church. I will try to bounce in and out and check responses and reply to those I can.

We both believe, Just because the guys in brooklyn have got it all screwed up doesn't mean we have to step away from spirituality. I go to church because i come out feeling better than when I went in. God is still real to me and If we can find a place to worship together then that is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our kids. I have a very personal relationship with God, it doesn't have to be reached through a church, but sometimes it does help. The Nazarenes have the best sommunity group of the churches we have looked at. many things for every age group, both social and spiritual. My prob with it is it's very 700 club coming from my background as a Catholic. But I'm willing to overlook the strangeness of how things seem, and see if I can connect with God and the people there. I hope you have all that you need and find all that you are looking for

I'm so sorry about your family and the pain it must be, I couldn't imagine it my family is so tight that it would be unbearable. My wife actually was having pressure from the reverse direction. She was getting back into the "truth" and the changes would have required her to shun her family, Well that's not going to happen and it kind of effected her. She saw the pain that it would cause and she realized that shunning is not from God, Jesus ate with the tax collectors, he did not shun them.
Her whole family is away from the Jw's and so it is easier for her. Avoiding a JC and DFing is mostly because of the hassle and the pressure she doesn't need. Pray for her that she doesn't give in to the pressure. I don't think that she will though she has called her mom and sister and told them of her decision and I think if she starts getting a bunch of pressure it will force her away instead of to them.
Still I can't/won't truly believe it until she DA's

The changes I'm talking about relate to the Aug Kingdom ministries article on DF and DA's and fadeaways. Basically the society is going back to the 1981 rules shun everyone unless they live in your house. Watchtower info service has a good article on it. (link at the bottom of page.) But as it relates to her if her mom or sis da'd to join another church then she would have to shun them. And with families like ours that's not going to happen.

Blue Saph, I think that your line of thinking will help. I think that she should throw in a Don't worry about me jehovah will lead me Just Wait On Jehovah. hehe I personally think it would be funny but it would be lost on jolene. I want to thank everyone who has ever helped me here you have been my beacon and my refuge for sanity. I know it's not over but we could be on our way. I will be bouncing in every once in a while tonight and will spend time here tommorrow. So anyway I'm not leaving I'll just be pretty busy over the next few Hours.

I could Lie like a rug, but she won't. She said if she has to be DF'd that's fine if she were to ever go back then she would take the "punishment". I don't know but I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for her. Hope she can find what she needs away from the Borg.

She was baptised and fell away 10 years ago and started studying 1 yr ago. She now wants to stop studying, but doesn't want to get df'd. She wants to slip away and possibly start going to the first Nazarene church.

She and I talked this afternoon and she said that she believes someof what the JW's teach but that she thinks they are wrong on some things. Kinda vague but what do you expect she's a JW. She wants to look at other religions so that we can worship as a family. Hooray!!!!!! So anyway we discussed DFing and DAing and she didn't realize the changes from the last 6 weeks could effect her so much. She said that she would be DF'd over shunning da'd family members because she would never shun her mom and sis. We had a great discussion and I think she is really going toget out.
Her biggest worry is telling the lady she is studying with that she wants out. I told her to take it easy and be carefull of what she says. She doesn't need to go through a JC and DF proceedings. I think she should just tell her she is going to take a step back and work through family problems and leave it open like she will resume studying later. What do you think she should tell her is there any good way to get out of the study without geting grilled and possibly DF'd.
Your input would be appreciated.
