Why did Jesus have to die?

adam was tempted and sinned by eating of the fruit.

Let's go back further and ask, "Why'd Jesus even have to come to earth at all?" Couldn't Jehovah have, in his infinite love, just forgiven humanity sans-sacrifice?

Keep in mind that if you say, "Jesus HAD to die for Jehovah to be able to forgive us," then you're admitting that there are things beyond Jehovah's power, you're saying Jehovah had to follow a law, he couldn't avoid it.

That's the stupidity of the ransom, it hinges on Jehovah making up his own rule for forgiveness. 'How can I bring myself to forgive them? I know! Hey Jesus, c'mere..."

'Jesus didn't die, guess I can't forgive.' ... 'They killed my son! How dare they! Now I can forgive them.' Wait, wut?

New Light! - Old bulb was getting dim.

it's always bugged me how you only see big doctrinal changes, "new light," happen right around the same time the "old light," is about to blow out.. this "over-lapping generation," teaching is the perfect example, "old light" was about to be extinguished as being impossible to maintain, "new light brothers, we have new light!

" and everyone is amazed, when all it is is a stop-gap fix.. "new light," is synonymous with, "buying time.

How Many JWs actually Watch JW.TV?

what do you know from your own experience and talking to other active jws?

i know from my own informal, non-scientific survey that most jws do not watch jw.tv.

I don't know the numbers of how many watch, but of those I know who watch it regularly I want to know how they put up with Morris and Lett? A dictator and a freakin' cartoon character, these are the people you believe are leading you to salvation?!?! Madness I say!

I'm thoroughly convinced that the GB were better off remaining behind the scenes, being front and center should eventually sink in to people what nitwits these people are. Really it can only dwindle the numbers, because it surely can't be drawing people in.

Here's the difference, I don't need any of recorded History to be true, I'm not basing my current life around a belief system where-in any particular piece of history HAS to be true in order for my belief to hold, I'm not threatened when they find counter evidence to History as we know it, I'm not required to defend Platos existence, I don't need him to have existed.

All of these things are a preresiquite for Biblical belief, it HAS to be true to believers, it HAS to be accurate, believers feel threatened by counter evidence, they HAVE to defend the Bible lest their belief system crumble to ashes, their very way of life depends on these things.

It's quite sad/pathetic really, to have faith you HAVE to be ignorant of so much.

How do you know Satan didn't inspire the Bible?

jws believe that satan knows things about the natural world (like how it was formed).. they also believe that satan can influence events (even fulfill prophecies).. the bible is the source of great confusion and the vast majority of christians (2.2 billion people) believe it but do not have "accurate knowledgetm".. from the jw point of view, wouldn't it be more likely that satan inspired the bible than an all loving god?.

@Pete Zahut If it was Satan that wrote the Bible he casted himself in better light by comparison to the way in which Jehovah is presented.

Jehovah completely owns Satan when it comes to death in the Bible, especially OT Jehovah. Jehovah is a Stalin-esque genocidal maniac, by comparison Satan is just a run of the mill serial killer. Granted, not the best light, but between the two Satan is a saint.

Jehovah didn't want us to think for ourselves, Satan promoted free-thinking. Jehovah demanded exclusive devotion, Satan required nothing. Jehovah had his own son killed so that he could be able to forgive (wut?), Satan tried to give Jesus the world. As a side note, the fact that Jesus supposedly HAD to be given so that Jehovah could forgive implies that there are things outside of Jehovah's control/power, why couldn't he just forgive without sacrifice? Just go, "I forgive humanity for Adam's sin," boom, done. How hard is that?

Again, by comparison, Satan comes off looking more like a saint than Jehovah does with his totalitarian dic(k)tator methods found throughout the Bible.

I'm surprised the borg hasn't posited that Satan planted all of the malicious killings assigned to God, or that it was in fact Satan who killed the people and ascribed it to Jehovah.

Under this assumption it'd just be:

Everything good = Jehovah

Everything bad or that we don't particularly like because we're picky like that = Satan

Granted, they basically do this now, however you can reach some of them with the stoning commands and other barbaric practices found in the OT. However, if these acts were contributed to Satan instead, there'd be no recourse to rebut their beliefs. They'd be completely stuck in a God = Good, Satan = Bad cycle.

Shunning Disfellowshipped & Apostate family Members. Scriptural?

anyone who is a witness or was previously a witness, is aware of the written & un-written rules concerning association with disfellowshipped family members.. there are a multitude of quotes through out the watchtower publications, but these 2 will suffice.. "are you proving yourself holy by not associating with family members or others who are disfellowshipped?

"the clear instruction in the bible is: avoid them.

that means that we have to stay away from them... the bible says that apostates are mentally diseased and that they use their teachings to make others think like them... what must we do to avoid false teachers?

JWs will keep their disfellowshipping ways despite ample objection found within scripture. They'll continue this because the WTS is a cult, saw this short list earlier:

How to identify a Cult:

1) Exclusive. They may say, "We're the only ones with the truth; everyone else is wrong; and if you leave our group your salvation is in danger."

2) Secretive. Certain teachings are not available to outsiders or they're presented only to certain members, sometimes after taking vows of confidentiality.

3) Authoritarian. A human leader expects total loyalty and unquestioned obedience.

The crazy thing is, WTS wrote an article in Awake Janurary 8, 1947 lambasting the Catholic Church for their ex-communication practice calling it, "a pagan practice," and saying, "the weapon of excommunication became the instrument by which the clergy attained a combination of ecclesiastical power and secular tyranny that finds no parallels in history." Then just 5 short years later what do you think the WTS approved as doctrine?
