About what one thing do you find yourself being a real SNOB?

you know, to fit in....to be a part of our own family or group and not be a total nerd or contrarian.. we hold our tongue.

we smile and nod.. but, then....there is at least one thing we just can't go along with because it is too important.. why?

because we are a total snob.

Terry I would have agreed with you about Stephen King until last weekend when I started 11/22/63. I am about half way through, and it's fantastic.

Love Opera!!!! I've seen Phantom like 10 times! (Kiddin' Sir, but I do love La Boheme. It's the only one I've ever seen. I listen, and since I have no idea what they are saying, I have favorite pieces rather than whole Operas. One of my biggest regrets is that we didn't have enough time to see one in Milan which is supposed to be the pinacle of Opera. Or even Venice which we probably could have managed if we hadn't been concerned with early morning departure).

I'm a foodie, I guess I'm a bit of a food snob.

Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?

until recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.

it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.

do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

I'm sorry Chariklo, by I find the OP somewhat absurd. You need only look back on the number of threads begun by believers trying to school unbelievers to see how silly it is. And of course the unbelievers defend themselves and ...............boom, they are scornful, or any number of other unflattering adjectives.

All the while, many of us live in countries that are crushingly christian.

ran across an interesting article commenting on the capitalist imperitive of endless growth.

in a world controlled by mega-corporations - whose amoral and self-interested philosophy is growth uber alles - we are bombarded daily with propaganda about the blessings of growth, even as we experience its opposite.

unless we, the people, regain control of our corporate oligarchy and re-define economics to generate balance, the world will continue to degenerate under a self-defeating, for-profit, ethic of growth-to-ruin.. .
