We went to one about 5 or 6 years ago. They had the meeting out in the middle of BFN at an assembly hall. It was a the end is near but we need money special meeting. Some of the further away congregations chartered busses to get there. It was very successful in that people were lined up to put their money in the contribution boxes.

I think they have always exaggerated numbers
That statement reminds me of how Soviet Russia fudged the numbers to show that they produced “many, many potatoes” but when the residents went to the store there were no potatoes.

Not invited to congregation “get togethers”. They finally said it
by solomon inwe don’t get many invitations to congregational social gatherings.
we don’t attend midweek meetings and miss about 1/3 of sunday meetings.
we go in service at least once a month.

@ Dozy
Some of the other more self righteous elders got to hear of it and one night a week or so before the party came the dreaded "knock at the door" and two elders turned up. They were pretty nervous and told me that the elders had met and decided ( by majority ) to rescind my invitation.
That experience is the equivalent of quitting your job and a week later your boss showing up at your door to say you’ve been fired.

Does the org have their own real estate firms?
There is a “brother” in our town who is a realtor. He handles all the Kingdom Hall sales in our region.

The numbers don’t add up where I live. I would say that 25 percent of the congregations have closed in Canada in the last 20 years and the Kingdom Halls have been sold off.
The borg hasn’t reported numbers decreasing but where are all the people? Our circuit used to have 2 assemblies with 800 attending each side. We now have one assembly with 1100 to 1200 attending. That indicates a 25% decrease at least where I live.

Things we should not have said,
by Phizzy indo any of you remember things you should never have said to a fellow j.w ?.
two of mine come to mind, one was when we were out in field circus one day and my companion was complaining of knee pain, he explained, " it has a crack in it ", i replied " that explains why my bum hurts, that's got a crack in it", the other one was when a guy showed me a chef's knife he had bought for chopping, and i said " i always wanted a big chopper ".. you ?.

Mrs Hoser told the RBC head honcho that something wasn’t being built to code during a Kingdom Hall quick build.
That didn’t go over very good.

Jordan Peterson - Messiah or Poseur?
by cofty ina jp video came up on my youtube feed last week - he was on a panel in front of a huge audience and some poor disturbed guy ran on stage and started crying and wailing to peterson that he needed his help.
it was agonising to watch.. what was even more disturbing was the comments section.
i do not exaggerate when i say that dozens of people were extolling peterson's wisdom as if jesus had come again.

I agree with what he is saying. We have become a nation of victims. People need to take responsibility for their actions.

After 60 Years She is Heading Out!
by The Bethelite inif you read my book "new boy" i talked about a girl i met in 1972 at a convention in allentown pa. i fell in love with her at first sight.
however a problem came up a couple of months later, when i met and fell in love with my future wife, debbie.
both women's mothers didn't like me at all (go figure) and it was literally a coin toss between the two women.

I’d rather not invite big brother in my house to spy on me. The watchtower organization is intrusive enough

I think the demographics of a congregation are similar to any “worldly” organization. You have:
1. Takers - those not ashamed to take advantage of other. These are on the top, bottom and middle of the economic pile.
2. Givers - those with morals that are taken advantage of by number 1. They are easily guilted and shamed.
The difference with the JWs is if you are being taken advantage of you it is difficult to get justice. You just have to suck it up.
I did some office cleaning for a super pioneer couple many years ago when they were on a pilgrimage to bethell . I didn’t get paid until I pushed the matter with the elder husband. I got a check that I couldn’t cash because they spelled my name wrong. I asked for another check and finally got one after harassing them for a couple of weeks.
This couple are now in the circuit work.
