What have you forgotten you ever even knew?
by Simon inat a certain point, as the years tick by, you start to realize that you have forgotten a lot of things.
typically, something you learned, some knowledge or skill you used to have, that you just haven't used for so long you no longer remember anything but that you once knew it.. i saw an article about electrical resistors the other day, and how the colored bands signify the rating.
now all i remember is that i used to know it, and that resistors do something with, erm, electricity ...

I used to be able to rattle off many different scriptures. Not so much anymore. Use it or lose it they say.

2022 - 1914 = ?
by fedup inobviously not the orgs brightest moment for teaching that the generation of 1914 would be alive to see paradise.
forget the "new light" that bought them an extra 100 years, which if any other religion would've done this, the org would scream false religion.
the fact is that for 75 years this #1 recruiting message from the society was a lie.. i asked a current jw to get a calculator and do the math: 2022 - 1914 = an angry reaction.

End times religions always run out of time. They have to keep changing the dates. People have a short memory and the social aspect keeps a lot of people in.

History repeated: pre-1975 trend of selling homes to ‘downsize’
by LongHairGal ini saw this thread on reddit.
i think the reason for this is that the 1975 fiasco is never mentioned in the jw religion.
nobody mentioned it to me when i came in the years after.. the problem with this is that all the sad stories were never told (or hushed up) of people who sold off homes, etc.

There ain’t no free lunch.
I see people make foolish financial decisions all the time.
It’s all about social stratification and being part of the clique.
There ain’t no free lunch.
If you want to accepted by the middle class you have to live a middle class lifestyle. You have to dress middle class, drive a middle class car, live in a middle class neighborhood, own middle class status symbols and put your kids in middle class extracurricular activities.
It ain’t cheap!
If you want to be perceived “spiritual” according to the Watchtower’s definition of the word you have to engage in “spiritual” activities. You have to go on a bethel tour, qualify to attend international conventions, pioneer in israel, sell your house to be a need greater in some Central or south American country, pioneer in March or April and at each circuit overseers visit. I could go on and on.
It ain’t cheap!
Institutions(religious and secular) and car dealerships use human nature of needing to fit in to steal your labour. It’s slavery and there are people lining up each and every day to be victims.

The more I age the more I realize how the institutionalized fear has affected my thinking and how I react with others.

What are the benefits of doubts?
by psyco inwhat are the benefits of having created the human mind being able to have doubts inside (or regarding) the true religion (jude 22)?.
because if you have doubts, you are not sure, so it is difficult to believe and trust.
and if it is difficult to believe and trust, it is even more difficult to have faith since it is the "assured" expectation of what is hoped for (hebrews 11:1).

If no one ever questioned anything humans would still be foraging in the woods to eke out an existence.

Resistace to going back to meetings

The first in person meeting was well attended. Since then more and more are staying at home on zoom. I would say it’s 50/50 at the moment.
It will be problematic to end the zoom meetings as COVID is still a health risk to the elderly.

Caleb & Sophia - The Watchtower gets weirder
by Listener inthe latest video release 4/4/22 (lesson 44 'don't give up') in the comic series of caleb & sophia just got weirder.
the plot is about caleb & sophia preaching door to door, caleb with his father and sophia with her mother.
it shows each of them having doors slammed on them four times.

How far do we get away from 1914
by PimoElder inhow far do we get away from 1914 before they have a new light and admit it was all wrong?.
they cling to the old theory of the 77 week prophecy from the wrong date that jerusalem was destroyed .
with the overlapping generations nonsense still we are getting too far away from 1914. what will they say if we get to the 2030s and they still cling to 1914?.

Too many people are in for the social aspect and many are stuck in due to family/work. No one really mentions prophecy anymore. It’s not like it used to be.
