Panic buying of gas and price gouging
by mynameislame inthe news had mentioned how some stations were charging over $6 a gallon for gas.
they also brought up that the government had promised to come down hard on anyone that was price gouging.. my question is, is it possible to price gouge when there isn't an actual emergency?.
i think there are some benefits to raising prices even in an emergency.

Non first hand..
by zachias inthere is a "jehovahs witnesses discussion forum" that ask for people to share "non first hand experiences you feel compelled to share."..
so stories about smurfs wandering about conventions for example.
yes "non first hand experiences you feel compelled to share.".

I actually didn’t see a smurf doll bite a little girl at the Kingdom Hall, jump out of the chair and walk out while saying swear words but I did hear about it from my mom when she caught me watching the smurf cartoons one Saturday morning so it must be true.

Will You Still Wear A Mask Even If You Don’t Have To?
by minimus init seems that some people just aren’t ready to put those masks aside even if they are fully vaccinated!
some can’t help but think their brains aren’t ready for “normal”..

Do local JWs want in-person meetings back in your congregation?
by JWTom ini realize many here think that in-person meetings will return as soon as things are safe with covid.
but many acknowledge it will likely be 2022 or later when this happens.. surprisingly, many pimi jws in our congregation are not shy about saying they are fine with zoom meetings forever and do not want to go back to in-person meetings.
many speculate similar thoughts that are on this site....such as a combination of in-person and zoom meetings.

Why would anyone want to go back to meetings? Sunday morning is now laundry day. -

I’ve never really worn one. We have a mask bylaw in effect but many businesses don’t enforce it anyway. I wear a mask when the business wants me to which is rarely. We don’t go to restaurants as they require contact information and I’m not into getting caught up in a covid sting.
I really doubt the effectiveness of a mask anyway because they leak around the sides and don’t filter small particles like viruses.

Why haven't they re-started the 'cart witnessing'?
by eyeslice inwe are nearly 18 months into this pandemic and lot has been learned and our behaviour modified to make things safer for us, e.g.
the wearing of face masks and social distancing.. many countries such as australia, new zealand, the uk and usa either have things under control or have vaccinated a large portion of the population.
therefore, given the very passive nature of the 'cart witnessing', i can't see why this hasn't be re-started.

I think they will have a hard time reinstating any kind of physical ministry. The majority hated door to door but would never admit it. Privacy laws made keeping written records illegal. Field service was really about the social aspect of it. Before the rona hit going door to door had become a joke. Driving around a lot and really doing about 15 minutes of preaching and counting 2 hours. Not very effective at recruiting new members.
As far as the cart witnessing, if there is even a remote chance of getting covid no one wants the risk. The longer the witnesses suspend public witnessing the harder it will be to get going. We’re a year and a half in and I see it being at least another year before people feel safe. Many are so frightened they will probably never feel safe with strangers

With a whimper, not a bang
by JeffT inthe thread about old timers got me thinking about trends i see with the watchtower.
i've changed my opinion about where the organization stands.
when i joined the religion in 1973 it was dynamic, even the small congregation i attended sent out three or four pioneers.

Trained followers can’t be leaders. That’s why the organization is in decay.
Think about it. To move up the “spiritual” ladder in the Jehovah’s Witness religion a person must follow direction. Independent thinking is not allowed. Natural born leaders are never promoted in the religion. Most times they are run off or take the hint and leave.
Those that make it to the top are all too afraid to make the hard choices to turn the ship around.

The old timers believed in it and had a fire in their belly. Now people are going through the motions to stay connected socially.
