Were You One Of Those That Was Always Looking For The Perfect Kingdom Hall?

i remember, especially in the 70's and 80's, how certain ones would go from hall to hall looking for the perfect congregation.

you know, the place that had the best elders, the area that you could "grow" in.

maybe it was the hall that had all the families or best association.

I didn't do the 'switch congregations' bit, but my mom - and other siblings still living at home do.

It's kinda humorous to listen to them when I used to visit them talking about the latest KH they were attending, and how things were so 'spiritual' there... not like the one that they had just left.

I often wondered - since there are something like 25 to 30 English congs in this city... how long it would take them to make the circuit - and start over. I never did do the math on that... as I decided it wasn't important enough to spend my time on.

But it IS funny. They would go on and on and on - praising this or that person and how much better things were at the NEW KH they were attending.

It amazes me how that some folks refuse to see the real reasons that they are restless - and acknowledge them - and QUIT the borg.

Ummm... well, I kinda built my own computer - around 1976 - from a kit.

It was a SwTPC computer. I couldn't afford the whole kit - which was how computers were sold as - in the beginning - and so just purchased the bare PCBs, ordered the components from distributors, and soldered the parts onto the boards.

I still have it in storage. It initially had a whopping 2k of static RAM, which I expanded to 4k later. (2k = two thousand bytes)

I used Tom Pitman's Tiny BASIC which was 2k, that I loaded into the computer via a teletype - and paper tape. It took the program about 5 to 10 minutes to load. (I would usually eat my supper while it loaded.)

I could then use the keyboard on the teletype to type my own programs. <grin>

Those were the days.

I also built my own modem - an acoustic one - that could do 110 baud over the telephone lines.

No one understood what I was doing in those days... all pretty much said that they could use a pencil and paper to do what I was doing with my computer. <shrug>

I just wish that I had pursued the computer industry a bit more in those days. After all... I'm as old as Bill Gates... and he went a bit further.

Memoral time kids...... anyone going?

i don't about you all but being raised a jehovah's witness was so ingrained in me that going to the memoral seems the right thing to do at this time of the year.

so i for one will do it for no other reason other than i was trained that way, and of course i like the song they sing its touching and i am a big sinner lord have mercey!

Not me! I think that everyone else should examine their motives - if they feel they need to go.

This is nothing but a 'dog and pony' show - where they strut about and put on fake smiles. <shudder>

I also think that one needs to beware of these types of meetings - especially where the masses are taught to just do what they are told and not question it.

I seem to remember another group long ago... led by a Jim Jones - that also did what they were told. It could happen folks. I want to be no where near a KH when they initiate an 'everyone partakes this year' policy.

Well, I hope this survey isn't over... I got here late (as usual).

My ideal? That's a tough question to answer, because women are like snowflakes... (no, NOT cornflakes...) all different, and melt with the warmth of a kiss.

I have met a few gals lately - both on the Internet - and in person. It's scarey out there. <shudder>

I guess what I am looking for is someone that is able to hold their own whilst in a conversation (and not chew gum <snap>), and like going places I like to go to - just having fun together. We would need to... 'click'.

Oh - and at the risk of upsetting the fair ladies here... I have decided that ex-JW gals seem to have too many hang-ups. <shrug>

U.S. citizenship is also a requirement. <grin>

I don't ask for much, do I? <laughing>

I came here - after posting for over a couple of years on the 'Beyond JWs' forum (aka 'Tim's Forum'). I still post there from time to time - mostly in the Wisteria Section.

Each has its' merits IMO.

I have been posting/lurking here for over a year, or so.

I prefer the enlightening, and uplifting posts to the 'let's trash 'em' posts. <grin>

after reading the post on how to "treat your husband," i'd like to know if any men here actually feel this way about women.

everyone jokes around about male/female relationships, but how many really think women are inferior?

i know from some serious posts i've read here, that a few of the men must have really been hurt by someone.

I think that any relationship is a give-n-take relationship. (Or should be, to be stable.)

As for women/men, I feel that at sometimes the man will be stronger, and at others - the woman will be stronger.

Not in the sense of a Master/Slave relationship, but in the sense of a Equal-Partners relationship.

I haven't met a woman yet that can be a partner on terms like that - perhaps they don't exist. <grin>

Or perhaps I am still wandering around with a fever from the flu I recently am recovering from. <wider grin>

Got My First Diesel. But...

i finally decided it was time to throw away my decrepit austin montego and get something for work that was a little less..well, tatty.. i need to carry ladders and tools and things.

however having had the experience of losing (stolen, actually) the tools from a van on 2 occasions, i know the value of having a car for work that has at least got a boot large enough to be able to hold my gear, without actually advertising the fact that, hey look, easy pickings!.

so, a car is what i needed.

Hey there!

A really cool thing about diesels... <grin> is that you can pour bio-diesel into them and they run great!

I had a 1982 VW Rabbit Pickup - and ran it on homemade bio-diesel one summer. Smelled great - and ran great.

I had fun that summer running my P/U on fuel I had made from vegetable oils.

Right now, I have a 1998 VW New Beetle Diesel - and plan - someday - to be living at a place where I can make my own fuel again.

What the heck is Marmite.

Ummm... I know what both Marmite and Vegemite are. Usually British folks take offense at Vegemite (an Australian product), and Australians take offense at Marmite (a British product).

Vegemite is a yeast type of product. Nasty brown stuff. Not bad actually, on toast. I developed a taste for it prior to a visit from my Aussie galpal over a year ago.

You should have seen her face, as I - proud that I could eat Vegemite - proceeded to dip my knife into the jar - and spread it generously on the toast.

She kinda went blubbered a bit - waved her hands in mid-air - and said "Nooooo! You don't eat it like that!" (I had no idea what she was talking about.)

She then proceeded to demonstrate for me. It turns out that you are supposed to put only a teeny little dab onto toast, and scrub the heck outta the toast - as you attempt to spread the Vegemite all over it.

I had learned to take it 'full-strength'. She DID say that there would be many an Aussie male that would be proud of me for eating it that strong.

How should _I_ know? <shrug>

P.S. Being proud to be trying something new, I had located Marmite locally and purchased it. Not cheap either. When she found out (she was still in Australia at this time), and promptly made me throw it out. Hence my earlier remarks. They both taste the same to me. <shrug>

Yes.

It's all part of healing and moving on with our lives. If someone hangs around here day after day - which turns into year after year...

Then they are not progressing or healing.

Personally, I am making visits here less and less. *wide grin*
