  both sexes! what is your favorite scent-cologne/aftershave/perfume?

  i have always loved perfumes and oils and i have quite a collection that i use as the mood strikes...but i am getting low on many of them and it is time to think about making that birthday gift list sooooooo... what do you wear and what do you like and why?.

  my all-time innocent favorite is muguet des bois(lily of the valley)--reminds me of my youth and a cousin who gave it to me as a gift who is passed now.... but i also love the scent of lilac, usually in an oil.. my favorite perfumes are: obsession, rare rubies(avon), coty wild musk, revlon's fire and ice, white shoulders, sand and sable, ck's truth, (and also mesmerize, odyssey, foxfire, jasmine, raining violets, honeysuckle, lemon velvet, hawaiian white ginger--all old classic avon you can only find at flea markets or once a year in the book.).

  but i need something new....i like the oriental/spicy blends, but not for all the time.

  Good topic,

  For me - I wear Pi (actually, it's the Greek symbol), by Givenchy. I chose this cologne after another survey like this - done a couple of years ago. I have had favorable comments from ladies about it, so it blends with my body oils very well.

  My first choice - and old favorite, no longer in production was made by Jovan... cannot remember its' name right now.

  For women - Estee by Estee Lauder is an old time favorite - since High School days, many years ago.

  Other favorite womens' favorites include Red Door, Jessika McClintock, Musk... and others.

  Basically, I need to smell the perfume ON a woman - after it has settled down a bit before I can decide if it is a nice one - for that person - or not.

  I like scents that are not too... sweet, or dry. Light and fragrant... like roses, is nice.

  I like going out on 'Perfune Safari's' - where I go in with a galpal and try on various scents in the perfume section at department stores. Lottsa fun. <grin>

  Card in the mail...

  this past week was really crappy.

  tuesday was a disaster... literally - with a water pipe bursting, and flooding quite a bit of my mobile home.

  i am now sitting in my office, in a room with floors that resemble a roller coaster ride.

  This past week was really crappy. Tuesday was a disaster... literally - with a water pipe bursting, and flooding quite a bit of my mobile home. I am now sitting in my office, in a room with floors that resemble a roller coaster ride. I have been a bit down as a result, I suppose.

  This afternoon, I went to the mailbox. Usually, it is packed with junk mail, flyers (have you seen me?), or... icky bills!

  Well, today was different. Only one piece of mail today. It was an envelope from a very dear friend that I have met in the recent past. She sent a small note, and some photos of the time that we got to visit.

  Nice memories. Made my day.

  I am grinning just thinking about the good time that we had together.

  Thanks. You know who you are.

  Being your own best friend!

  tonight while reading sheila m's post about thunder's parents not even saying anything nice to him when he got his book published, put me in mind of something i've been thinking for a while.. today, all you hear about is "self-esteem" this and "self-esteem" that---a lack of it causes everything from suicide to eating disorders and everything in between.

  i believe concerned parents today are much more in tune with rewarding postitive behavior by reinforcing it through praise.. as a jw child, what special assaults on your self-esteem did you suffer and how did you deal with it?.

  in short, are you your own best friend?

  You bring up an interesting point! If all ex-JWs moved to a town - and that town consisted of ONLY ex-JWs... ya know... DF'ed or DA'ed - would there be JW doorknockers visiting that town?

  Hmmmmm... methinks I shall go and think on that a bit.

  i traded in my 1997 vw jetta (which had tons of problems....i'd just figured i'd gotten a bum car and decided to give the new jetta's a try).

  I own a 1998 New Beetle, and admit that it is a tad lower than I like - and I need to watch out for those curb-stop thingos that they put into parking lots, as I've nearly pulled off the lower cowling in front, but else-wise, I am very pleased with my VW.

  The engineers have thought through a lot - and it shows in the little details. (Like, it won't start if I don't have the clutchj peddle depressed. I know, I know... but sometimes I get in a rush, or forget. <grin>)

  My friends Joe and Sheri are in the Automotive repair business, and are always trying to get me to 'soup up' my Beetle. hahahahaha I may take them up on it.

  (Of course, one thing that Joe wants to do is to add a wind-up key on the trunk lid... I am not convinced I would like that. hahahaha)

  The really cool thing about my VW? It's a diesel, and gets over 50mpg on the highways... 43+mpg in the city. I do a lot of smiling knowing that little detail.

  JW's that tried to Blackball my Hubby in work , since D/A

  many of you know that my husband's work is fixing hail damage in cars, and that we have traveled for 10 years from colorado, texas, ok, kansas, etc.

  but those mainly were his best contacts , and also all jw's in the business.. last summer one of our best contacts who lives in co, called to tell my husband that he had a hail storm hit that very day, and said that since he has d/a himself he will no longer work him.

  i understand that some may not let their conscience do that being firm jw believers.

  As for those jacka**es whut call themselves 'JWs'... they need to read their own 'bible'... sumthin about 'reapin whut they sow'?

  But they are so brainwashed that they will babble on about some sort of persecution or other... 'last days' ya know <rolls eyes>.

  No need to go on in that line of discussion.

  I didn't realize that Denny was in the dent removal business - I'll have to keep that in mind.

  i was saying that if i hadn't grown up in it, i would have never been drawn to it at all.

  You might first ask if he believes in evolution.

  (Of course they don't - I knew that! <slaps forehead>)

  You might ask if he believes in the 'flood'? and Noah.

  (Of course he does... silly me...)

  Then ask how - if he doesn't believe in evolution that the different 'types' of bears, lions, tigers, etc - all got to their current state - if they didn't evolve?

  Whether he knows it or not - he believes in evolution.

  can't wait for Halloween!

  my husband and i were discussing the thread about ripostes to jws who shun you in public...and we came up with a cool idea for halloween this year!

  first, find out if it is on a meeting night or if the local pizza hut will be hosting the annual jw hide-from-the-trick-or-treaters 'get together'.

  then dress up like a smurf, blue body paint and all, but maybe with an axe burried in your head and fake blood....and either go knock on the kingdom hall door during the meeting and say 'trick or treat!

  Good idea... but maybe you should go to the KH and 'dance' - if you go as Smurf's.

  After all... isn't that the 'urban JW legend'? The Blue Smurf that some child had taken to the KH - that got up in the middle of the meeting and danced?

  I think a 're-enactment' of that urban JW legend is in order. <grin>

  Personally... I think that at Halloween one should dress up as Santa Claus and go door to door... "Trick or Treat!!"

  After all... WHO in their right mind would refuse to give candy to ol' Santa? And if they do... will they get presents at Christmas?

  Then at Christmas - one needs to dress up as the Easter Bunny, and give brightly colored eggs as presents to kids.

  See what being a JW has done to me? I can't even get the holidays straight. hahahahahahaha

  Robyn - If I understand Feng Shui correctly... all ya gotta do is hang a crystal - that'll 'fix' it.

  That or put up wind chimes... but I think a crystal is the 'preferred' method. It'll 'fix' anything! hahahahahahaha

  I know I am coming in late on this topic... but you mentioned that this fella gave you a 'reading assignment'.

  Perhaps you should consider giving HIM a reading assignment - from something that YOU believe in these days. Do you think that he would read it? I doubt it.

  He would make some sort of "Well, I believe in..." and give some JW bs party line.

  Oh well. I know that with your circumstances - you wouldn't be able to do that... but sometimes... you would like to. Yanno?

  I suppose the best thing to do is to make yourself scarce when this fella returns. Just beware. If he smells ... an 'apostate' attitude, he may return with 1 or 2 other fellas.

  Story: St. Patrick's Day

  a long time ago, i was working in austin, and commuted back and forth from.

  It's coming up on St. Patrick's Day, and I always remember something that

  A long time ago, I was working in Austin, and commuted back and forth from
  San Antonio. I drove to Austin every day for a month, then finally got an
  apartment in San Marcos (which was about half-way), and stayed there during

  the week, and came home on the weekends.
  
  I always looked forward to Fridays, when I drove home to relax. On the way
  home though, I would stop in at a store in the Outlet Mall in San Marcos -
  Sara Lee's - where I would pick up some food.
  
  They had lasagna that was wonderful - and German chocolate cakes, and other
  foods that were yummy.
  
  One weekend - it was St. Patrick's Day (or very near it), I got to witness
  the greatest improvisational comedy - it was wonderful!
  
  This little 5-year old girl was there with her younger brother and her
  parents (who were in the back of the store shopping). The store had open
  chest freezers with frozen goods in them. The little girl came up to the
  fella at the register and said, "My little brother is eating the ice.", as
  she pointed to one of the freezers, and a small boy nearby.
  
  "It's okay. It won't hurt him. It'll only turn his face green.", said the
  cashier non-chalantly, as he continued ringing up my goods.
  
  The little girl, startled - asked, "Is MY face green?" (Guess who else had
  been eating the ice?)
  
  "Naw", said the cashier, "It takes a while."
  
  "Oh.", said the little girl with a small worried voice, as she walked away
  to join her parents shopping.
  
  I just shook my head and laughed, as I was paying for my groceries and said,
  "You're bad!"
  
  "I'm bored.", he replied as he shrugged and handed me my change and
  groceries. (They hired a lot of college students to work at the shops
  there.)
  
  As I drove the rest of the way home, I could not help but wonder about this
  little girl... her parents also driving down the highway, and her asking
  them from the back seat, "Is my face green, yet?" - and they, not knowing
  what had transpired earlier in that store.
