That's funny! But... I would bet that will be the response of most JWs. They don't 'get it'. It's like humor that goes over their heads.

The start of Armageddon
by Armageddon-Messenger in<!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } p { margin-bottom: 0.08in } a:link { so-language: zxx } --> hi everyone:.
i am armageddon messenger, the one that jesus said he would send to tell "you" the things coming.-john 16:12-14. .
as it should be expected, the governing body of jw's are not willing and will not accept me as a "prophet" because according to them, jehovah only communicates trough them.... .

I know I am late with this tidbit, but Armageddon has already happened. It came invisibly in 1975. Everyone knows that.

Latest convention brochure on,,, the Governing Body
by cedars ini've finally get my hands on a pdf of one of the two newly released brochures, this one entitled "who are doing jehovah's will today?".
here's a link so you can download your own copy.... http://www66.zippyshare.com/v/98881625/file.html.
predictably, the brochure is extremely vague on key topics.

It's too bad that this thread has turned into a 'black-themed' thread, because I could comment on when I was a kid and went door-to-door.
Back then, the mags were only a nickel each, or a dime for both. After our sales pitch, we would ask for the 'donation', and if the person at the door said they didn't have any change, we would say that we could trade for a bar of soap or box of jello - something of equal value.
Ya know what? I actually got some folks to go and get a bar of soap and bring it out, and trade for the magazines.
I guess... thinking about it now... maybe I looked like a little street urchin who needed a bath.
The cool part? When I got home, I would proudly show my mom what I got, and since the soaps were usually not what she bought, she would let me keep it. I would then put it in my sock drawer... making my socks all smelly and nice.

JWs wouldn't preach despite multiple opportunities...
by EntirelyPossible ini was on a date tonight, eating in a cuban restaurant owned by jws (they have never met me, incidentally, the food was really good) when i realized that there was not just one, but two conventions in town.
one was the standard english speaking district convention folks, the other was the asl folks using the assembly hall in town for their district convention.. my date, who knows all about my jw past, tries to strike up a conversation with some of them sitting at the bar, asks them what they are in town for, etc.
they just said "for a convention".

Thanks guys.
Well... I have talked to a realtor locally. I guess one question I have about realtors is... are they like lawyers? That is, does one realtor represent the seller of a property, and I need to get a realtor to 'represent' me as the buyer?
I bought my first home about 27 years ago, and I seem to remember something that led me to believe that I needed to have my own realtor when I went to look at property shown by a different realtor. I didn't, and I think that the one realtor got to keep both fees.
Anyway... so I contacted this realtor about getting some property. She told me about the 5.9 acres. She told me the asking price for it. It sounds pretty good, considering what is already on it.
I then told her about my property. My 0.65 acres. She seemed to know the area, and also was pretty much... negative? about my getting much for it. Well, that's the impression that I got, anyway.
She also said that she would look into it and see what it might be worth. I'm still waiting for word back from her. I think I may phone her tomorrow.
I've also thought about walking into the realty office that sold me my property and asking to look at properties and see what they are going for these days. I'm sure that I will pay more than what I originally paid for mine 10 years ago.
One reason that I'm interested in selling the 0.65 acres is so that I can put a larger down payment on the 5.9 acres, bringing the principal down to a more reasonable number for financing.
For the person that asked what the 0.65 was zoned for - residential. There is a HOA there, and restrictions. I'm not against restrictions on property, unless they interfere with what I want to do, and these do that. I want to start with a small cabin. I'm restricted to no smaller than 750sq ft. Too large for me initially.
Anyway... thanks again to all that have given their input to this. I don't buy/sell property often, and just don't want to look stupid when dealing with someone who does.

Jim TX

Okay - I see that I need to provide more details.
1) The person that is interested - they already own three adjoining properties. They are playing Monopoly, and are purchasing properties as they come up for sale, just so that they can own a bigger piece of the monopoly board. While they say that they paid only $4k and $6k, I find that difficult to believe, and feel that they really paid close to $20k for one piece of property - just last year (I looked it up on the county appraisal logs). They live on one of the properties, and are trying to buy up all that they can afford. (If we were playing Monopoly, she owns St. James Place, Tennessee Ave, and New York Avenue, and I own Kentucky Ave.)
2) As to what it is really worth - the appraisals have been steadily going up, and actually came down a bit in the last year or two. But, it is land. Land here in Texas is worth something. Especially land near lakes. Mine is within 3 miles of Medina Lake. The North side, but it is still a recreational lake that people go to on the weekends.
3) I have looked at properties of equivalent sizes near mine - not right next to mine - but in the general area, and those properties are going for - a minimum of $25k - and up. No improvements. That is, no septic tank. No electric on a pole. No water in the yard. Etc. My property has electric at the street. Water can be run from the street also. Okay... no septic tank.
My piece of property would add quite a back yard chunk of property to the lady's collection. She would not have to worry about someone putting up a mobile home, and ruining her view. She knows that.
I don't have to sell the property - I can just sit on it and pay the taxes each year. I was just hoping to get advice from a realtor (not an economist - sorry, no offense meant) that may guide me.
I am interested in another piece of property - 5.9 acres - that is in another location, and I could use the money from the sale as part of a down payment. But... if I can't get more for it than peanuts, I will just hang on to it.
Another thought that I had was to sell it... take a loss... but not sell it to the lady that does not want to pay a reasonable price for it. It would have her grinding her teeth to have someone move in a mobile home and live there. She would know that she should have been more proactive, and perhaps offering a bit more, so as to not have someone else move in.
Again, I am still looking for realtor input.
Thanks,
Jim TX

Okay. I am hoping to get information / advice from someone on here that is a real estate guru.
I own a small piece of land in the hill country. It's only .65 acres, but it's a start. It is appraised by the county it is in for about $16k. I pay taxes on it based upon that appraised value.
I am thinking about selling it. One of the property owners next to this property is interested in it, but she is wanting to only pay something like $4k or $6k. (My original purchase price was $10k.)
I am thinking that is way too low. I am thinking that I should get at least the appraised value - if not more.
I would ask the question 'Am I nuts?' - but I would probably just get 'yes' answers.
Is there any real estate gurus that can advise? I may not have given enough details like... the property is near a lake (well, a lake when it has water in it - it's dry right now).
Ask if you need more details.
Thanks.

EP - if it won't give you away, what city was the ASL assembly held in?
My older sister is an interpreter, and always brags to me about her and my younger brother going to the ASL assemblies. Like I care. (I don't.)
I'm just curious if they may have gone to this one. I live in Texas. I know that they travel long distances to these ASL assemblies.
