CG,
"I wish people would spay and neuter their dogs if they aren't breeders."
I think that this fella needs to be 'spayed'. He ain't too bright.
Hearing a story like this... *shaking head* ...there's all sorts of idiots in the world.

i don't think this was ever written in a wt, but i've heard it more than once as a comment.
that when david reached into his bag to sling a stone at goliath - that he had five stones to choose from.
and the comment was... .
There were many when I was growing up - and a JW - that would try to make up 'parables' - like Jesus... they would pontificate these in front of audiences...
...most would draw 'oooohs' and 'aaaahhhs' from the audience.
Many were made by circuit or district overseers - and were related during long and boring meetings.
Others were related by 'wannabes' - during their 15-minutes of fame - aka their 5-minute talks on Thursday evenings.
JWs don't have exclusive rights to these 'made up parables' though... just turn on your TV any Sunday morning, and watch those preacher fellas in front of the TV cameras... they do it too.

how coherent and fear-mongering is this passage?
33 since 1914 we have gone through two world wars, the second being worse than the first.
we have seen atomic power introduced into modern warfare, under the shield of the most powerful nation of christendom.
"...witness recalling how serene things were in the fifties and sixties..."
Serene??? Do you call this publication, and the one called "From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained" - 'serene'???
Some of those photos in that 'Paradise' book still haunt me (well, not really... but they cannot be considered 'serene').
As for conditions in the world... this person must have had their head in the sand. JFK had his finger 'on the trigger' so to speak - real close to launching nuclear missles against Cuba. (and likewise - them against us)
There have also been other 'close calls' through the years...

Geez Louise Leolaia,
This was released in 1962 - at the height (or near so) of the cold war with Russia... Cuba... etc.
I don't know how old you are, but as a child in elementary school in 1962, I remember having to go out in the hallway after an alarm sounded and doing the crouch in the hall bit (wasn't it called the 'duck and cover'?)... it was an exercise for 'protection' in case of a nuclear attack... as if ducking in the hallway would make a difference.
The WTBTS always (or used to) follows the 'trends' of the day in their publications. If you start looking at the older publications, you will see that.
As for the concept of an 'asteroid bomb'... doing a Google on that phrase turned up a couple of interesting hits that describe the possibility for such a device.

we went to a college football game tonight.
i thoroughly enjoyed the singing of the national anthem.
stood up, without a 2nd thought that there should ever be a reason why i shouldnt.
Hey Netty,
Like many others, I am also working through some of those 'dorkiness' issues. hahahahaha
I still am learning the 'Bless you!' after a sneeze. It's funny - we were deprogrammed to respond to this simple act as a JW.
I am getting better though, and will say "Bless you" to the gal at work when she sneezes, and then say, "I'm getting better at it, eh?"
I have already told her that I have trouble remembering to say that phrase... and will just laugh it off.
People can be very understanding - or perhaps they just like watching a train wreck. hahahaha

with all the discussion about the noah's flood, i thought you might want to dissect this picture:
Okay... my thoughts.
After the length of time they were on this 'ark', and all they can do is stand around outside afterwards, and smile and stare at each other?
They had plenty of time for that ON the 'ark'.
Normal people would be looking around like, "What th'?"
Also... no one has mentioned the bison yet. Did this fella have to come all the way from North America for the boat ride?
Regards,
Jim TX
P.S. Just read the statement above the drawing. talking about how "god made the earth to be inhabited"... great statement to put right after a alleged flood that wiped out the entire population - except for 8.
in a local paper.

"Let me see;Freedom of religion means;we don't have to report child molesters to the police;we are above the law."
Yes, plus...
We do not vote for these laws.
We will use these laws whenever they are convenient for us.
We will skirt around these laws when they are _not_ convenient to us, or scream "persecution!" if taken to task for violating them.

P.S. I think someone should 'locate' this fella who supposedly cannot be 'found'. I'm sure his life could be made miserable if it were made public where he lives.

i've read the bible and i don't recall satan himself actually ever doing anything evil or harmful... however i read many accounts where god killed or tormented countless thousands of people for arbitrary reasons.. aside from prophecies where jehover says that satan will hurt people in the future (hasn't happened yet, and no sign that it will happen), can anyone cite an example in the bible where satan actually harmed anyone?.
Heathen said,
"...he was so was later rewarded with way more than he ever had in the end ."
Ummm... my point was/is this - in relation to Job.
You are not able to 'replace' children. According to the account of God 'rewarding' Job for being faithful... Job had more children to replace the ones that died.
Now... how is THAT supposed to work?
Oh gee Mrs. Job. Sorry that our other kids got killed. Let's forget about them though, God gave us 'new' kids. This is our reward.
Yeah, right. In a pigs' eye.
Based upon THAT logic - there is no need for a 'resurrection' that the JWs teach. Just have more kids to replace the ones that died. It makes it simpler for 'God', too.

The interesting thing with regards to the bet between God and Satan - and Job...
God allowed Satan to kill off Job's children. Job remained 'faithful' to God.
So how does God reward Job? By allowing Job to have more children to 'replace' those that he lost.
Now... if this God were _really_ so all-powerful, and _really_ wanted to show off his power... he could've just resurrected the children that Satan killed.
Nope. Job had new children.
Job was a putz. He 'accepted' the new children, and his new wealth, etc. and 'praised' God.
The moral? If you lose a child or two... just have another - or two - to replace them. Praise God! (Too bad he didn't get a replacement wife, too... from the sound of it, she was a b****.)
(This bit was no doubt written by some Catholic monk in a monastery, who had never had children.)
Good fairy tales abound in that book they refer to as a 'bible'.

Jim TX
P.S. I'm just waiting for the folks here to start talking about all the 'after Armageddon' JW-BS logic - and God destroying any who 'choose' to not be 'faithful' to him.
Rule by dictators has been around for a long time. Obedience by 'fear of being destroyed' is all that is the result.
the post about jehovah sending panties through the mail is funny.
it reminds me of all the stories at the assemblies and conventions of zealous witnesses rewarded for their dedication.
i never believed any of them.
Beyond the 'JW Urban Legend'... I don't know if most of those JW folks realize it or not, but aren't most 'First Day' of a 'new job' on a Monday?
9/11/2001 - was a Tuesday.
Plus, no JW in their 'right mind' would start on a Tuesday - as that's 'book study night'. *wink*
