The Rink - Charlie Chaplin - 1916

It has got to be the BEST roller skating I have ever seen. I hear that it was the first time he had put on skates, too.
Anyway... quite a movie.

i really think silent film is a lost art that is still somewhat valid.
my favorite is metropolis.

many of you migth know the archetypal jewish hero was joshua (the successor of moses) otherwise known as yeshua ben nun (?jesus of the fish?).
since the name jesus (yeshua or yeshu in hebrew, ....ioshu in greek,...( source of the english spelling) , originally was a title (meaning ?saviour?, derived from ?yahweh saves?
)......what was jesus's real name?
Durn it! When I saw the title of this thread... the first thing that came to mind was...
"Bob"
But I see someone else has beaten me to it.

ok. i have some questions, and thought this may be a place to get some answers.. i'm going to be honest here, so please don't bash me too much, as i was never a jw.. in july i was out at a drinking establishment in my home town.
my husband and i have been having marital trouble, and we were trying a trial seperation.
guys were hitting on me left and right--which i had absolutely no interest in.
Jellybean,
Remember the robot from 'Lost in Space'? "Warning! Warning! Will Robinson! Danger!!"
Well... have fun - but be careful. If he is a 'fringe' JW (one who is living a double life), he may seem 'normal' for a period of time... but if he ever gets a 'conscience' and 'turns himself in' (or someone else does), his personality will change 180-degrees. He will become moody, and sullen, sulkng perhaps.
You are a strong woman. You do not need to be dragged down by this.
IF... he is trying to 'exit' that religion... he may need help... but you will need a lot more information about that high-control group before you even attempt to be the one to try to help him.
It's kind of a dangerous game. Be very careful.

Jim TX - (been there - was a JW - did that to a nice non-JW gal - not proud of it)

only about 12 weeks till xmas, are we having a christmas card exchange?.
i couldn't take part last year but i can this year.. thanks,,,,orbi
Well... I got one Saturday from Insomniac. Funny card, Insomniac. Thanks!
I have only one more card to get in the mail... today. Other than that, all the others were sent last week - and should arrive at their destinations real soon - well... those in the States. Canada, Australia and The Netherlands may be a different story.
(I hate this editor... it keeps moving my cursor around - and putting it in the Subject line - then thinks I want to post my message... grrrrr)
I think the fastest card got delivered to Harleyquinn last week, in San Diego - 2 days.
Thanks to all who are participating. I find that this gives me something to look forward to - and offsets some of the blues that tend to overcome me at this time of year. *wide grin*

i was talking to a ministerial servant last week, and he said that a bethel elder told him the reason why the 2004 annual service report was .
delayed, was because of man power problems.
they simply don't have enough staff at the us branch, because the annual report is already .
Well... I remember long ago... when I was a younger fella - and attended those 'recruitment' seminars at the assemblies... yeah. I snagged one of those 'applications'.
I remember filling it out... and they also required a photo - which I didn't have. So, I went to the nearest mall - and got several taken in one of those photo booths. Black-and-white photo - I remember I wasn't smiling in it... it looked more like a mugshot (I should've been holding a set of numbers.)
Anyway... I wasn't a 'pioneer' or 'ministerial servant' or nuttin... just a 'joe blow publisher'. (Although - unofficially, I put in lots of hours... I just never 'signed up' to have the 'title' of pioneer.)
I turned in the application to the congregation that I went to... and never heard a thing back. nada. zilch.
I asked the fella that I turned it in to... he assured me that they had sent it on... (yeah, riiiiight - truth be known, I think it went past one fella - the CO - that had it in fer me... and he s**t-canned the application).
I also told the fella at the next convention - who gave the bethel 'sales-pitch' about not hearing back... he said to fill out another one. By that time though, I was beginning to become dis-illusioned... and so didn't. (I also figured that if I was rejected once... I would be twice - and didn't really want to go through that again.)
In the long run though... it was all for the better.
So - long story short... mebbe they need to 'lower' the bar - and accept the low-life and scum from the KHs. *wide grin*

i was at university the other night in the computer lab, cruising this site, well a fellow classmate who has been in my class since sept and we have become friends, walks past, looks at the site i am on and says, "i noticed you are on a jw site, did you know i am a jw, are you one?".
i was shocked.
i turned to him and let loose,.
Good work Jez.
I think an important thing to remember is... it's much easier to talk to a JW - when they are alone.
Isn't that why they go in 'pairs' (or more) door-to-door? When one is taking a 'hit' - the other is thinking of another bit of 'circular logic' to hit the person with.
But - by getting this fella alone - you are able to set him off balance - so to speak.
Plus... it sounds like he is a 'fringe' JW... especially if he is in college.

WooHoo!!!! Are we having fun yet?
I just got another card yesterday (Thursday the 2nd). From 'Fairy' in Australia! Awesome card - beautiful stamp! Thanks!
I still need to get one out to Scarlet... hopefully today or tomorrow...
Harleyquinn already got my card - yesterday. *wide grin* She and her hubby got a good laugh out of it - from what I understand. *wider grin*
What I find humorous about all of this... when I try to tell others locally... non-JW... (you know... normal folks) - they kinda look at me oddly. To them, sending out cards is a sort of drudgery. Certainly not something that they look forward to, or have fun doing. hahahahaha

From what I read, it looks like the city arena has a price for the rent.
The JWs do not bring in this amount per day.
Simple math. Nothing more.
San Antonio also has their 'arena' that is overpriced for some events. Most events ask a fee at the door - to get in.
Perhaps the JWs should 'charge' an admission fee at the door - to help offset some of these costs. (Yeah - right!)
RE: Blondie's comment -
I do not think the JW organization is really hurting... not at the 'higher' levels. Perhaps - since they have restructured so many times, they have isolated their 'wealth' from the lower, more local levels... I might believe that!

in the waterbury conneticut area there was a circut overseer named caramelous (greek name not sure of spelling).
this brother more than 30 years back was having all the congregation servants removed because they where over weight.
i guess they used not moderate in habits (eating too much) as a scriptural reason.
"Ahhhh yes...", *he says, thumbs hooked in suspenders - looking piously over horn-rimmed glasses*
"Moderation in all things. Whether it be eating... or drinking...", he continues.
"...or attending metings?", asks a small voice from the back of the room.
Suddenly the entire room is a-buzz with whispering. Who dares to interrupt Bro. Pious, as he gives his discourse?

Okay... here's an update on this...
I received my first card yesterday - from Canada. Thanks Mortons68.
I just got back from the Post Office where I dropped in the cards I am sending. (All 8 of them - so far)
In no particular order...
Mortons68
Odrade
StinkyPants
Fairy
Orbison11
Insomniac
Bem
and... Harleyquinn *wide grin*
Now, some information for those sending out cards...
You can get more than just the card in the envelope for the 37-cents (here in the states). I am sending some 'extra' goodies in with my cards.
Postage - from the U.S. to Canada - costs 60-cents
from the U.S. to Australia costs 80-cents
If sending to a foreign country - be sure it goes 'Air Mail' and they stamp it right there at the post office as such.
Also - ask that they use stamps - and not the postage meter - when they apply the postage. (I always enjoy seeing foreign stamps - plus, it's more 'personal'.)
Well... I'm all excited. *wide grin*
Ho Ho Ho... gobble gobble (oops!)

Jim TX
