JW Urban Legands

in my congregation we have many urban legands, like the one about the smurf doll jumping out of a girls lap and running out of the kh because it couldn't stand to hear the good news.

we also had one where a sister was out in fs and a dog talked, it told a sister not to knock on this one door, the sister went to the house and knocked anyway, and the doors and windows of the house flew open and dishes flew out, the sister was scared and ran away and the dog yelled at her retreating back "i told you not to got here!

".

i heard a story when i was little about a smurf jumping off a little girl's night gown and raped her. >.<

heard about this house holder who had everything in their house covered in tin foil to "keep the demons from making trouble". then the dubs pulled out the watchtower and everything in the house jumped.

there was this one woman who i pioneered with who was full of stories:

-if she came across angry dogs she just looked it straight in the eyes and it would run away because they saw a lover of Jehovah (but i think they saw something scary. she was the one who repetedly verbally abused me)

-one guy at the door told her that there was a group he was part of who was currently erecting buildings with no windows to stick all the JW's and Jews in. like a concentration camp.

-her abusive mother gave her a piano. she started seeing a man in the wood grain that would mouth words to her (i had the same experience with a man on the wall that looked exactly like she described. i know it sounds crazy...) and she was CONVINCED that her mom demonized it on purpose to further her abuse.

those are all i remember.

plus.... there's NO WAY there would be anything at the KH to remember the anniversary of ANYONE's death (besides Jesus).... wouldn't they consider that to be "worship of the dead" or something??? weird.

Mormon vs JW experience

i was browsing some ex-mormon forums and i noticed that many of the experiences sound similar.

people spoke about brain washing, viewing outsiders as being ignorant of the truth, im not sure if im allowed to copy and paste from other forums, if im not please let me know but here are a couple quotes from ex mormon forums:.

alice.... jw's and mormons have alot in common... except for the magic underwear and the weird ceremonies. and they can't be fully submersed in water during their "missions".... or something like that.

i was thinking about this one a lot over the last few weeks.

what difference does it make whether you were born into a cult or were brought in as a teen or adult?

i agree with stAnn. i left when i was 22. i had moved to my "worldly" husband's home state, clear across country. i had faded some before that and couldn't go to a meeting without a xanax because of how people were treating me. i felt GUILTY because they were being mean. moved out here, went to 1 meeting got sick and couldn't go for a couple weeks. felt more guilt. couldn't get the courage to go back. i've had depression since i was tiny. the first anxiety attack i can remember was when i was 8. suicidal thoughts by 10, half because i felt worthless that only worldly satan worshiping kids would play with me and half because of other issues. granted, my problems are hereditary, but i was also made to think at the meetings that Jehovah gives obedient JW kids witness friends, and satan gives kids worldly friends. my parents didn't personally believe that you were BAD by being worldly, i was just going by what i heard at meetings... and wasn't i supposed to live by what they said there?? now i'm 27 and i have THE WORST anxiety over the smallest thing i think that i say wrong but no one thinks twice about it. i just haven't a clue as to how to act. i've always sat back and watched others, i HATE meeting new people, CAN'T stand parties. i don't have any friends here that aren't guys my husband grew up with. i only have 1 friend that knew from before i moved here, and she was my only friend when i was a JW (she's worldly). she's totally awesome for putting up with my JW crap. sometimes i just can't take my awkwardness anymore. it really drives me crazy. but no one thinks i'm awkward, but i think it's the "struggle to act normal" that is the awkward part. >.<

so. yeah. being born-in totally sucks.

i quilt! i'm currently hand quilting a baby quilt for a friend's baby. (i'm the only one i know of besides the Amish who still hand quilts.) i don't even know anyone my age who quilts... can't wait to finish it so i can move on to the next one! i do quite alot of different sewing and craft projects. hope to start selling on etsy soon! :)

i'm 27.... was babtized at 13. stopped giving talks at 18 (panic attacks). stopped field service at 21. haven't been to a meeting or anything for 5 years. "woke up" 6 months ago. lol. i consider myself a "searching non-trinitarian christian with a JW past". lol. but no body ever asks me in everyday life.

the only fees you have to pay on the kindle is when you buy a book. i believe it's less than a $1.... it's free to check email and facebook, etc. unless you go over a certain amount of GB or something...
