i used to live in a part of england that was popular with tourists.
the kind of tourist who wanted to experiance the "real" rural england.
they would come to my town and thrill at the quaint old shops, delight in afternoon tea at the many little tea rooms.
god im so sorry that you feel that way, you describe it so well, and so emotionally, i felt a similar way for a few mile radius and moved out of my local area, but over several years its easing and although i would never live there again, im learning to remember the good bits too, so its not All spoilt anymore,
but the past is gone and NOW is here, so wishing you all the best as you create your new life in the sunlight!
i was raised from the age two as a witness by my new recruit parents in 1981. i was born in 79.. i didn't like being jw, and that didn't mean i was a saint.. and my parents were fanatical and still are.. i have an an older sister and a younger brother and we are all 2 years apart.. my brother and i were a riot.
mischeivious, rambuctious, hyperactive and not afraid of nothing.. we had games over the years.. like singing in british accents during the songs(and during bible reading at family study) and screwing with the word just loud enough for each other to hear.. we used to have armrest battles when we sat beside eachother.
pushing elbows until the other slipped and got in trouble.

we used to try and get a stupid word in on the doors, your partner picked the word and you then had to slip it into the conversation, ive had to walk off from a door before cos ive been giggling so much!
we used to do that putting your hand up at the last minute thing too! so youd look good but deffo get missed!

my name is brett w., and i am senior undergraduate student at the university of florida.
considering that someone on this site was just disfellowshipped after being identified by someone registered on a site like this, just for the purpose of collecting info and using it against a member here,they made copies of their posts and then used them in a judicial committee, i have patience for anyone who has paranoia on this site, and wouldnt laugh out loud at it,
yes it might seem extreme, but its also extreme to be disfellowshipped and cut off from your whole family and that is a real threat to some who come on here,
im not having a go at any research being done, but just feel that patience needs to be shown for paranoia, as someone has already said, it goes with the territory,
i never could, like some others described, i could never ever see myself there, i just couldnt imagine it at all,.

even those that no longer believe in "god", i wonder, do you ever ever think of god, believing possibly he may exist?.
for those that do believe in god, do you feel you have more of a relationship than when you were a witness?.
i like the idea of a benevolent universe, thats what i believe in now, im a loads more spiritual than when i was in the jws, but not in a religious way,
i think about god every day, but im not sure who or what is there, if anything really,
but what helps me is trusting in the universe, something bigger than myself, but accepting the mystery too, and just focusing on what is here and now,
i do pray too, but to me it doesnt matter who its too, its putting the prayer out there that gives it its power, and i believe prayer works,

after 33 years of being mind controlled at 5 meetings a week, field service meetings, special day assembly, curcuit assembly,district assembly, finding out "the truth" is just a big hoax is like getting punched in the stomach-uppercut in the jaw-being kicked in the balls from behind and then having the rug ripped out from under you and smashing your head on the ground.
what was it like for everyone else?.

i was terrified, for ages, cos i just thought it was the end of my life, thought there was nothing to live for "where shall we go away to" id been taught, but i just couldnt carry on cos just plain didnt believe in there stuff anymore, so my heart had gone out of it,

Also a bit like waking up not knowing the hell where you are, and you cant speak the language, and theres no maps but you just know you a world away

i was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.
i just love the freedom of NOT having to dress up, and actually feeling free to wear what the hell i like to places, and not being judged half as much for it,
i hate seeing men wear ties, (sorry guys!) it just reminds me soooo much of those fxxxing elders, and all the crap that went with it,
oh to just be able to wear what i feel comfy in,
and as a woman TO BE ABLE TO WEAR TROUSERS ANY TIME I LIKE!!!
i went to a wedding recently and wore trousers, i actually had a flashback and felt frightened, then realised NOONE was going to "counsel" me!
i do like to dress up sometimes, but its when I feel like it, not cos of any rules
i'm still a bit torn on the issue of associating with my parents.
they have made absolutely no effort to keep in touch and usually any contact results in a generic witness email reply.. i have been at the point that i really don't need or care for their influence in my life for a while but i keep flipping back and forth between cutting off all contact and being the bigger person and at least give them updates.. so, in light of their recent aniversary, i went to the store and tried to pick them out a card.
i never really realized how difficult that is if you're looking for a card to actually mean what you say.. unfortunately i didn't find a card that said "sorry you two are trapped in a loveless marriage and i could really care less about your opinions" so i settled for the least bit sappy i could find.. i put the kid's school pictures in and while out running errands dropped it off.
cruel cruel cruel that religion, ive had those words said to me, "well you went away from us" oh and they make me so mad, but one day when they arent around you will know you did the right thing (thats what i tell myself about stuff)
and with your continued dripping they may gradually come round,
ive found that if i dont bring stuff up, they are willing to let it be in the background, but if i or my behaviour challenges them in any way then they close up again,
