  Racial question about the annointed aka 144,000...

  as an african american associate of jehovah's witnesses (since the age of 5, actually i remember going to the kingdom hall as young as 3).

  i've always wondered why most of the annointed were and are white.

  i know there are a lot of white people on here so why is it that there are.

  Its seems like latent racism at its best.

  It's not really racism. At the time, back inthe 30's, most JW's were white, in a time when in social circles black and white americans didn't really fraternize, they had picked the 144000 number. After 50 years of being existence, they were getting close to that many partaking, so they had to say "from here on out you all are just regular JW's, not annointed". It had NOTHING to do with race but more to do with their numbers getting to big to match the doctrine. Fast forward when, in America, at least, fraternization between black and white americans was common, the JW's were spreading into Mexico, China, etc., and hardly any of those people can partake because the number was already sealed.

  It's not that they are racist so much as the JW's were founded in America and they were products of their time.

  Ahhh, I think I NOW "see" the "problem," dear NVL (again, peace to you!). What I am sharing is just not that complicated. You guys are going too far OUT. Come back in... back to the middle... to the elementary. God is not a mystery, dear one... and seeing/hearing Him... isn't rocket science.

  No. No you don't. I was talking about the volume of matter in space. That math too me five minutes. It's not hard. It wasn't rocket science. It involved basic chemistry and a passing knowledge of astrophysics. You continually THINK you know what I am talking about but you never do.

  The only "tool" you need is faith... which I'm sorry to say... the WTBTS robbed you of.

  Langston Hughes heard the calling of god and you said he heard it wrong in another thread. Who made you the one who determines who hears it and why? Your hubris and arrogance in presuming to tell others they heard it wrong and to tell my what I believe and to tell me about my past that you have gotten wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME just makes you appear foolish, Shelby.

  No worries. It's hard to understand what you mean since you are using words and terms you yourself don't understand. You'll have to forgive me for having no idea what you mean when you don't have any idea what you are saying.

  i'd like to give my opinion on what jesus use of the word "generation" means, and then ask all of you to post what you think it may mean.. the wt seems to be obsessed with the concept of a scripture having multiple meanings.

  while i think this can be true, they go overboard with the concept.

  primarily matthew 24 was speaking of the events that took place in 70 c.e.

  Not at all Dan. It's just that Jesus telling the future fails the "What is more likely" test.

  What is more likely, that an invisible god impregnated a jewish teenager and she gave a virgin birth to a spirit creature turned human that fulfilled a jewish messiah prophecy (even though the jews themselves largely did not not believe that) and he then ministered, raised the dead, expelled OTHER invisible evil spirit creature and then prophesied almost 40 years in advance the rebellion of a local population and subsequent destruction of a city....or it was written after the fact?

  Another tip...DON'T weigh yourself every day. A lot of people (especially women)

  fall into this trap and it can be very frustrating. Pick one time a week to weigh.

  Not to disagree ... :)

  I actually do weight everyday. You just have to understand that weight can fluctuate everyday (and between morning and night) by several pounds. I weigh every morning right before a shower, before coffee, before I drink water but after a little personal business. It stays very consistent that way. I put the numbers in a spreadshee and look for the general downward trend. Npt saying it's right or wrong, that's just my method.

  Based on Teel's JC thread why dont we all sue them?

  teel's thread re his jc and his lawyer's advice has made me think....why dont all of us disfellowshipped ones sue the org for defamation of character????.

  imagine if we could find a lawyer who'd be prepared to start a suit against them on behalf of us all?.

  any thoughts?.

  Today in the Times in UK I was reading an article about Allred a female lawyer in the US who takes up cases for oppressed/abused women and has taken on many class action lawsuits which got a lot of publicity....I'm thinking of contacting her....

  Please let us know how that goes.

  Science Channel had very interesting program on the Star of Bethlehem last night -

  this is apparantly still a great theological/archeological/astronomical mystery (at least for those who insist on the literal truth of the story).

  this show did not try to deny the legend - rather, it brought up several theories by modern historical astronomers as to what this "star" might actually have been -.

  of the several theories, these seemed to be the main candidates:.

  Although I was a little puzzled that they seemed to suggest that all supernovas originated only in binary stars - I thought the theory was they came from a single star large enough to collapse suddenly upon itself when its direct nuclear fuel cycles ran out.

  Huh, I don't remember that from the show. I missed it I guess. Some supernova are binary stars yes, and others are stars that expand suddenly as their fuel runs out, they collaps, begin a secondary fusion reaction due to gravity and then rapidly expand again (rapidly expand is the same as "explode"), so yeah, you were right. Strange that they would suggest most come from binary star systems.
