i wanted to make a few comments to those of you that have recently begun to question or have already left the wt and made their way onto this site.

this site is a great resource to learn how others are coping with leaving the organization and moving on into a fulfilling life.. i wanted to write this post because i think reading something like this would've been helpful to me to understand where a lot of people that comment on this site are coming from.

Peace, is of course, a synonym for contentment.

CAN be, not "is of course". Isaiah was speaking to a nation, not a person.

Phil 4:6-9 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, gresent your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Word contentment not used.

Psalms 14:1 (again) - The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."

Says nothing about peace OR contentment.

Pslams 14:5 - There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous.

Says God prodiuces dread, not contentment.

Psalms 29:11 - The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses *HIS* people with peace.

Says nothing about contentment.

Col 3:15 - Let the peace of Christs rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Says nothing about contentment.

If I was less lazy I could keep going. But knowing your response to these scriptures sort of takes the fun out of it.

My response? You were the one that said the scripture showed true contentment came from got and you have yet to show me a single scripture with that word.

Judgement from GOD, not me.

So why did you judge me as being unable to be content? The scripture you quoted had nothing to do with contentment.

Jesus preached judgement, NVL. Read Mat 10:28. You probably won't so I'll quote it here:

"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both sould and body in hell."

Thanks. Can you show me the word judgement in that? Or what people would be judged for? It spoke about being in fear of someone tha can kill both the body and the soul, but never mentioned judgment.

So the Bible says that you CAN be content without God?

Two thing..one... I dunno, does it? I never said it did so I have no idea why you are asking me. Two... not the issue. The issue is that you suggested atheists are fooling themselves and then proceeded to quote scripture that talked about boasting. You, my friend, made the claim. You don't get to shift the burden of reverse proof on me. You made the post, you have to defend it.

But it is very biblical that true peace and conentment only lies with knowing God.

Then you should have no issue showing me that scripture.

Even if I showed you the MANY scriptures that back this claim up, it will mean nothing.

You are saying the scriptures mean nothing? I did not say that. I was just asking for the scripture. I know you will show me since I know you won't choose option one and change the subject like YOU claimed JW's do.

How about any threads that you are aware of on this board that do this? I've seen lots of atheists rant about theists here with hardly a peep from the theists (particularly Christians).

Very true. While I personally am an atheist, I respect christians, hindus, buddihsts, muslims....I disagree, but I respect their beliefs and will defend their right to believe. I simply ask the same. Militant atheists piss me off as much as militant .... whatevers.

Agreed, but that cuts both ways. Again, I've seen lots of atheists rant on this board about theists (Christians in particular) without nary a peep from the Christians on this board.

Absolutely. I don't think you are wrong to believe. I disagree, but that's doesn't mean you are wrong. I think of it like... I prefer vanilla bean ice cream, but you prefer strawberry. I would say vanilla bean is the best, you would disagree, but that doesn't mean either of us is wrong....

But, when someone tells me I am, I am fooling myself, etc., etc....well then I go into "Oh yeah, prove it" mode and I latch on like a bulldog on a bone.

They don't like the idea of judgement and so the only way that they can live happily is to throw away God.

Uh...didn't Christ say to NOT judge? I can handle judgement for my actions just fine.

Uh, again, judge not lest you be judges? He who is without sin cast the first stone? You're throwing a lot of rocks. I would like to see your certification of perfection. Judgement is a HUGE part of Christianity, but not even close to what Jesus preached. Why do you leave Jesus message? There will a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. At least, that's what the bible says, right?

I did not personally say that about atheists and contentment. The BIBLE says that and I was repeating it. I wasn't trying to insulting anyone. If I believe the Bible and it says that TRUE contentment comes from knowing God, then that's what I say.

With respect, bullshit, Dan. Let's review your initial post.

So can atheists REALLY have contentment in their belief (or unbelief)? They will claim that they are content. There are all kinds of people that try to find contentment in just about everything imaginable. But REAL contentment only comes from knowing God. Notice what Jeremiah said in Jeremiah 9:23,24. It says, "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight."

Show me where the scripture you cited talks about contentment. It talks about boasting, certainly, but never contentment. Using just the scriptures you cited, it ABSOLUTELY WAS YOU who said that. It certainly wasn't the bible.

3. When Atheists are backed into a corner, they get insulting and angry

When you manage to back one into a corner let me know. Telling someone (like you did) that they are fooling themselves when they think they are content because they don't have god is insulting and generally draws out responses like what you and others get, basically forcing you to prove your statements. Since Christians will generally change the subject when they can't prove what they say or wander on about faith or just claim "miracle" or "we can't know god" or ignore posts they can't really honestly answer (I've noticed you have ignored a great many of my questions), it seems that they aren't REALLY looking to convert anyone or have an honest debate.

You should again note that I have the highest personal respect for you and your faith and like you quite a bit, but it does seem that your default position is to start your conversations with "The bible is right and everyone else is deluded" and proceed from there and THAT leads to some unintentionally insulting comments that ignores the research, struggles and intelligence of many that doubt or have concluded differently than you. or were raised in a different faith. I strongly suspect that had you been raised in a Muslim family you would be defending Allah just as staunchly.

I know that salvation depends on knowing Christ and believing in Him. But I can't judge the millions of other people alive today.

The bible says there will be a resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous, so taking that literally it would seem to not matter much.
