BANE, I thought that we were all "serving shoulder to shoulder," there is no promotion in Jehovah's organization.

BANE- answer truthfully, are you turning in time from when you are on here? Because if not, then you are using valuable time that you should be using out in the ministry finding right-hearted ones to preach to about the good news of the Governing Body.

I wonder if JW's ever study what the heretics said.
by dgp ini was just wondering if jehovah's witnesses have heard about the dead sea scrolls, or whether they could ever get to read, say, the gnostic gospels.
some catholics would read those, to be sure, while some others wouldn't.
i wonder if jehovah's witnesses ever get to study what the heretics held as true, like, for example, marcion's belief that the god of the old testament couldn't possibly be the god of the new testament..

2010 District Convention - Some Thoughts on the Sunday Afternoon Session
by Olin Moyles Ghost inout of a sense of morbid curiosity, i recently attended the sunday afternoon session of the district convention.
the session consisted of a drama and the infamous "remain in the secret place of the most high" talk.
overall, i got a sense that the wts is in damage control mode because the end hasn't come yet.

"A far cry from what I see at the assemblies where they made an example of one individual who had decided to forego college and instead work in his father's (wait for it...) window washing business so he could pioneer more. Dreadful..."
What's even worse is that you'll get JWs who will tell you, "the GB didn't tell you not to go to college, they didn't tell you to work part time." I actually had a JW tell me that. She was like "Oh well that's your parents fault that they went to serve where the need was great (from '69-1975- there was no pressure then), that they didn't go to college, or have 401ks or college funds, etc" So I've found that the same people who condemn me for not agreeing with the GB will listen to these same "suggestions" at the DC and say basically that you are just stupid for listening to it. Just like the society denied the big deal made over 1975, and stated that it was the R&F who were pushing it.

"Why is it that you guys get off on lying to people and deceiving them? Did the BIBLE´S truth, not WT or anything, but didn´t ANY of the Bible´s truth get into your hearts at all?"
Why do the brothers keep hounding them for time? If you don't turn in a slip you should be left alone. They badger you to where you have to put down something to get them out of your face.
Anyway nowhere in the bible did it say to turn in field service time.

Letter to the Society
by serenitynow! inso my mom is die-hard jw despite disagreeing with some teachings from the gb.
we were talking today about the generation thing, and she told me the generation teaching was inconsequential.
i told her how as a child i thought it was huge that the end would come before the 1914 people died.

Nathan she is so dejected and defeated that she has no hope in this life. I feel like maybe if I could get her into mental health treatment something could be done. I have actually asked her what it is that keeps her from commiting suicide. Not that I want her to, but she does not derive any joy from life. I just wonder if she were to have the JW rug yanked out from under her at this time in her life, would she recover?
I was raised in, and really believed I was serving God, and part of the one true religion. When I found out the real truth, I was devastated. It was like I had been living in an alternate reality. One thing that I had to help me was my career. To know that I still possessed a body of knowledge I knew to be real was what helped me not loose it. She's been in longer and does not have anything else to cling to. Her self-worth (such as it is) is built on the "fact" that she knows the bible (NWT) backwards and forwards (for what that's worth) and that she has been living her life to please Jehovah.
Long story short, she's not a "half glass full" type of person. She's pessimistic and depressed.
I'm thinking that I probably should not encourage her to write a letter.

The next dub that says "the light's getting brighter" to me...
by undercover in...is going to get his punched out.
yes, friends, this is another thread about the latest generation teaching.
so, if you're sick to death of it, leave now, save yourselves.... anyhoo... as the wts has now unleashed on the world the true explanation of generation and what it means for those of us in this time of the end, dubs who accept without question this teaching are 'oohing' and 'ahhing' as the new explanation 'makes so much sense now'.

"Some CFLs are marketed as "instant on" and have no noticeable warm-up period, [ 30 ] but others can take up to a minute to reach full brightness, [ 31 ] "
Okay knock, knock. You almost had me, but according to wikipedia the light does max out in turns of brightness, it's not light that gets brighter indefinitely.

What I don't understand about the light getting brighter thing is this, when you flick the switch to turn your lights on at home don't they instantly come on at the full brightness? It's not like some old time TV that you may have had to turn on to warm up 10 minutes before your show comes on for crying out loud. What is the gradually getting brighter thing? Does the HS just give a little bit of light at a time? It just defies common sense.
