One thing I've not understood with that seed vault is why the entrance needs to be so tall.

They would all fit on the isle of Wight?

Texas = 268,581 sq miles = 171,891,840 acres
World population = 7,373,108,350
So there would be almost 43 people per acre if everyone lived in Texas.

I got up yesterday morning (Saturday) and enjoyed the watchtower work
by Zoos inreaching the fire watchtower on top of wayah bald overlooking the smokey mountains can be a difficult hike from nantahala lake up the bartram and appalachian trails where they straddle each other passing through this area.
the most enjoyable watchtower work i've ever participated in.. the views from the tower are spectacular.. .
looking across nantahala forest to the smoky mountains, described poetically as the most elevated peak; from whence i beheld with rapture and astonishment, a sublimely awful scene of power and magnificence, a world of mountains piled upon mountains.

@Je.suis.oisif I was responding to the OP, I've just edited it to make this clear. We posted at almost the same time. -

@purrpurr No it's not true.
Although the entire current population of the world could theoretically live on the surface area of New Zealand with a density slightly larger than Manhattan.

DesirousOfChange: When I first read the book "The Shining", I burned it and threw it in the trash.
How would you have felt if sometime later you'd discovered a slightly burned version in your drawer? ;) -

So Microsoft made a laptop - Surface Pro 4 / Surface Book
by Simon inmicrosoft definitely seem to be undergoing a revival and are coming out with some cool tech.
it's good to see them turning things around and keeping apple honest.. the holo-lens looks fantastic - much better than full vr headsets by providing augmented reality instead (imagine 3d minecraft projected on a table or aliens running round your living room to shoot at).. more practical though is the update to the surface tablet and the surprise release, the surface book laptop / tablet.
yeah, it's confusing - one is a tablet that becomes a laptop and the other is a laptop that becomes a tablet.. i promised our eldest a laptop for his high-school graduation and to use now he's starting university and took him to the apple store a few months ago but the macbooks i was leaning towards weren't available at the time.

Simon: Apparently, it's all about adjusting the center of gravity so the laptop doesn't tip back. It allowed them to shave off some weight.
Without it the base would need to be heavier (or the screen / tablet lighter which = lower battery life).
I can't help but think though, that if this was an Apple or a Tesla product the hinge would do that, and it would close flush ;) -

How to?
by OneFingerSalute ini cannot use the "quote" feature.. if i click on the quote marks it does the hi-lite of the quote i wish, but i cannot under any circumstances get out of the yellow quote box to create my own post.. i would like to know how other posters are able to do this.
i use both ie and firefox.
the same thing happens in both of them.. also hi-liting no longer works as it used to.

I know what you mean.
I now do everything in plain text and then add the quote highlighting afterwards ;)
Or you can add in some carriage returns before you do the quote so you already have a blank line to move down to.

umbertoecho: That number has climbed to about 5,000 now. Abused that is.
Do you have a written reference for this? This will mean a recalculation of the worldwide extrapolation and the potential liability for WT in Australia.
