i stumbeled across this site after doing some research about earthquakes and "end times".
i've had a jw comming to my home for quite a while just stopping by, and she finally convinced me to agree to a "bible study".
i was intoxicated at the time i agreed and i figured it would be better to have a set time for her visits rather then her just showing up at random times.

It looks like you have been given good advice and i don't have anything to add along that line. I would recommend the book "Sign of the Last Days" by Carl Oloff Johnson. It's a great book and it totally deconstructs the idea that things are worse today than they were hundreds or thousands of years ago. This is one of the most enlightening books I have read in a long time.

just wanted to say that as of tonight, i have completed my first semester of college.
it feels great.
i have met a lot of new friends, many of them great people.
You should do it. Even if it's nothing to do with a career change. Just a semester is a great experience. You are thrown into a mix of thousands of strangers, and it's so much fun making friends with new people. And every time you start a new semester, you can do it all again.
I have really enjoyed it.

information about four theocratic schools.
starting september 1, 2011, each year at patterson there will be 2 classes of the school for branch committee members and 2 classes of the school for traveling overseers.
branch committee members who have previously attended the branch committee school will be invited to attend a second time.
Evidently, Jehoover is blessing his church and is opening up more doors of activity!

My trunk is full of christmas presents. That's right.... it's my first christmas in 26 years. And I couldn't be happier about it.

always found this bizarre.. they have printed boundless amounts of information about this matter.
they discuss sex and it's details in front of infants & young children (surely a criminal offense, no?
), they gossip about who has been doing it with who when someone has fallen into the trap of the 'sins of the flesh.'.
FYI:
My former presiding overseer (about 8 years ago) once told me that one elder on a judicial committee was asking the person the following:
"What position were you in while you were doing it?"
"Did you enjoy it?"
This PO said that he interrupted the elder and told him that those details really aren't necessary, and shifted the meeting to whether or not the person regretted what they had done.

is it not true that the leaders knew that it was a blatant lie when the 1975 teaching was propagated in the 60's?.
I'm wondering what the next date will be. They started setting dates from the very beginning and it has continued until now. I look for a new date within the next 5 years.
growing up a jw, we always had family from out of town visit or we would go visit family.
it was fun to get together with my other jw cousins over christmas.
(however, it was hell going back to school in january as the only girl without a new sweater).. as a married jw though it was a different story.
I remember as a zealous pioneer, I used to go out in service on Christmas day. (17 years old to 20 years old) Then that became dreadful. I then became embarrassed to knock on somebody's door on any holiday, as I felt the holiday was one of the few days people can be with their families and not be disturbed. So I quit going out on holidays altogether for the next decade or so.
Then I finally admitted that I hated knocking on anybody's door.
Then I learned the truth about "da troof".
