My mother read her book also. She throughly enjoyed it. And my father too. It was one of the first books they read as they were coming out. They highly recommend it also.

My awakening and realization that I have been told a lie
by Soldier77 inhi all, new posting, but i've been lurking for a while.
i thought it was time to "come out" as it were and voice my story.... i was born into the jw cult surrounded by all of my jw family.
grandfather was an elder for almost 40 years till he passed, both of my uncles are currently now elders and have been for the last 15 years.

Soldier77,
Welcome to the forum. I am new here also. I woke up 5 months ago, and have been fading ever since. It's extremely hard when a person was born in, because your whole world is JW - friends, and in your case family too.
If you haven't done so already, read Ray Franz's book Crisis of Conscience and Steve Hassan's book Combatting Cult Mind Control. These two are the starting point in helping to move past the fears of dying at Armageddon and to realizing that there is life outside of WT. The mind control we were under is astounding.
Start making friends outside WT right away. That really helps.
There are lots of good people on the forum here. I have found them extremely kind and helpful. And they can relate to what you are going through.
Best of luck,

"Don't Ever Come To My House Again"...says the householder!
by mentallyfree31 insince i have woken up from the horrible wt nightmare 5 months ago, i have had a chance to reflect on things that have happened over 25 years.
one of the things i keep thinking about is householders in the field that would become furious upon seeing me and say rudely "get out of here and don't ever come back to my house again!".
it always struck me as such an awful thing to say.

I appreciate all the feedback. One of our elders would go to the "Do Not Calls" and tell them he knew they were a do not call, but wanted to check and see if they still felt that way. He would sometimes invite me to go with him on those. I hated it, because the majority of the time they would get even angrier when they found out we knew we wern't welcome and approached their house anyway. Needless to say, I declined his invitation to join him on those visits from that point forward. He was the only elder I ever knew of do that in my hall. My JW perspective back then was this: "we have so much territory that we can't even cover it once a year, so why are we wasting time knocking on doors that have specifically requested that we never come back?"

From the book, it sounds like she had an excellent therapist.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, I have seen people literally shaking and faces blushed with blood when they heard the name Jehovah's Witnesses. It's one of those things I will proably never know, but I sure would like to know their backstory and what they knew exactly.

Since I have woken up from the horrible WT nightmare 5 months ago, I have had a chance to reflect on things that have happened over 25 years. One of the things I keep thinking about is householders in the field that would become furious upon seeing me and say rudely "Get out of here and don't ever come back to my house again!".
It always struck me as such an awful thing to say. Now I realize how SMART those people really were. I'm actually curious how much they knew about JW, and if they really knew it was a mind control cult. Did they have firsthand knowledge from family members or close friends?
Comments? Thoughts anybody?

It's already been mentioned, but Captives of a Concept by Don Cameron blows away entirely the theory that God has ever had anything to do with the Watchtower organization. I remember reading it and suddenly backing away from the computer while cursing and realizing for the first time in my life that somebody hath done pulled one over on me!

I just finished "Awakening of a Jehovah's Witness" by Diane Wilson today. Wow - what a story. It's heart-wrenching - the struggle she faced while trying to break free from WT. I was truly touched by her experience. Her book also contains an abundance of "hard facts" and direct quotes from JW publications that are solid proof. Her documentation of the matter of Rape is mind blowing. She documents in chronological order how WT has gone back and forth ridiculously on this subject numberous times.
Have you read this book? Did you enjoy it?
