Do we have stats on a 'mass exodus'?
by Aussie Oz ini see at times, talk of how many are leaving the jws, how the young ones are leaving in droves, that more and more are 'waking up' etc.. can we substanciate this?.
i mean, actual stats to show this, not just small or negitive growth in lands such as the united states, as there are larger growths in other countries.. there are of course the downsizings of bethels etc, but downsizing is not always a sign of members leaving is it?
sales may be down resulting in streamlining organization as with any corporation.. numbers d/f each year getting larger?

My former congregation had 100 publishers in 1990. It still have 100 publishers today. I made a list of all those who have left over 20 years, and there are about 60 names on the list. A handful of those are DF and DA, but the majority just left and never came back.
So this is just one congregation. Most of these people didn't "wake up". They just fell out and became inactive. Probably most of them, except the DAs, are still living in fear of dying at Armageddon and think it's still the truth.
So a 60% turnover in my former hall. That's real verifiable numbers. I made the list about 3 weeks ago.

June 2010 Awake! more duplicity.....
by Hobo Ken ini was up in my mum's house the other night (she and my father are still active jws) and saw the june 2010 awake!.
as i browsed through it i came to watching the world.
as i read the article on the "baby mammoth" i noticed that there seemed to be some important information missing, as well as some good old watchtower selective quoting.. bear in mind that devout witnesses would never question the organisation or suspect that an article could be misleading them far less go and research the information to check it's authenticity.. the article mentions the age of the animal at time of death (3 to 4 months) and the fact that it was well preservedin the ice and that it's airways and digestive systems were clogged with silt.. right at the end of the article they say that the "scientists were lead to believe" the animal "must have drowned".

Is the Tide Turning For the Watchtower Organization? What Do You Think?
by mentallyfree31 ini would like some thoughts on this issue.
as we well know the wts has been going strong for 130 years.
and they are still making large increases.

I hope you are right garyneal. The 1995 "wicked and twisted generation" was their perfect escape...i can't believe they ever changed it after everybody accepted that.

I would like some thoughts on this issue. As we well know the WTS has been going strong for 130 years. And they are still making large increases. The more people they bring in, the more recruiters they have attempting to bring others in. Naturally 7 million preachers can recruit more people than when there were only 1 million Witnesses.
However, we see that their increases have not been as great in the last few years. My question is this: Is the tide starting to turn for Watchtower? What will happen over the next decade? Or the next two decades?
Now that information is more readily available than ever, people are steadily coming out. The more people that come out - they in turn will help others to come out, esp family members and close friends. One person in my family left - and two years later 6 of us are out. Another friend on the forum reports that 19 of her family members and friends are now OUT.
Still, most JW's are not looking at the readily available information. However, for new recruits it is easier than ever to research the people knocking at thier door wanting to recruit them. This will naturally play in a factor in reducing new recruits, as is probably occuring right now.
So, what is your opinion? What will the next ten years bring? And the next 20 years? I look forward to your thoughts!

Not Sure What To Do....HELP!!!!!
by lostinnj83 inhello..i have been lurking for quite some time and am finally ready to make my first post!.
i was raised a witness and am still "active" in the congregation and am married to husband who is also and have been having some doubts for some time and voiced some of them to my husband a few months back and he immediatly called the elders who provided a sheparding call.
doubts were mainly on the harshness of the disfellowshipping and the blood issue.

Welcome to the forum.
Lots of good advice has been given here. Just take it slow.
Remember that persons under mind control don't use logical thinking. There is only one belief that matters to a JW and it is this: "God chose the men in brooklyn and I have to follow them or else i will be destroyed at Armageddon". All the other beliefs don't matter. The WTS changes things all the time - nobody even researches it or blinks an eye. As long as they believe that God chose those men in Brooklyn, they will fall right into line with ANY and ALL other beliefs. The same applies to any cult group.
Best of luck to you.

June 1, 1997 WT, page 12, par 7: QUESTION: Why can we have utmost confidence in the faithful and discreet slave?
ANSWER: Modesty on the part of the faithful and discreet slave class…prevents it from presumptuously running ahead and wildly speculating about things…The slave class strives to avoid being dogmatic. Never should we become impatient with Jehovah’s [organization] indiscreetly trying to rush ahead of God. How reassuring it is to know that the channel Jehovah is using … does not do so. It is both faithful and discreet.

Shawshank Redemption and leaving Jehovah's Witnesses
by AllTimeJeff ini doubt very seriously that i am the first to make the connection of exiting jw's and much of the movie "shawshank redemption".. frequently, the injustice that many experience as baptized members of jehovah's witnesses cause them to want to resign, to leave.. but it is a prison of sorts.
if you leave and announce it, you are shunned.
and no one will talk to you.. shawshank is such a remarkable movie to me for its simple, underlying theme; finding meaning in our suffering, and never stopping the fight against injustice, esp against our own freedom.. the best part of the movie is the line "you can either get busy living, or get busy dying.".
