Just curious...how many of you went to the elders and reported to them things that you heard through gossip?
And how many of you knew things that could get people disfellowshipped, but decided not to tell the elders?

i would like some thoughts on this issue.
as we well know the wts has been going strong for 130 years.
and they are still making large increases.
garyneal - That's a tough call. Being that he is of that age, I'm gonna withdraw my opinion and yield to the opinions of others on here who have more experience than me in dealing with people leaving cults.
man, i did it again in messing up my post.
anyway, after reading many exjw responses to questions from posters, i see there is a wide variety of opinions on faith and religion in general such as still believing that there is a god to no belief in god at all.
for those of you who still believe that there is a god, i'd like to know whether or not you still believe in the doctrines of the watchtower, but you just don't believe that it is gods "only true religion"?.
Terry - that's a great post. Thanks for that. I always enjoy your posts.

i am a third generation of jehovah witnesses, even if i never got baptized.
however, they disfellowship me when i was around 15. this was around 1987. even if i have not been in the "truth" for so many years it has affected all my life in many ways not only negative.
a couple of years ago i thought the events in the world maybe proved to me that they were right after all.
Welcome. Reading material other than JW material is great.
any 'proof' or quotes or experiences one way or other.
.
Good question. I personally do not have the printed reference material for the consequences of taking a blood transfusion.

In reality, if I did still believe WT doctrines after leaving, then I would have to quit believing them in a few years - because they will most certainly change. If a person left in the 50's but still believed WT doctrines after they left- now in 2010 they would be alone in their religion because WT doesn't teach those things anymore.

garyneal - I believe that win, lose or draw - people are better off knowing the real truth.
Except in isolated cases, of course. If a person was 80 years old and their whole world was JW, then I can see how maybe they are better off left alone.

I hear some comments about 1914 not being pushed so much. However, the next to last meeting I went to back in February was a Watchtower Study and it pounded the 1914 issue hard in several paragraphs. Honeslty, I quit reading WT publications several years ago, so i cannot attest to the frequency of it, but I know that meeting hit on it pretty hard.
The funny thing is that one pioneer sister commented that "there are SO MANY prophecies that confirm 1914". I almost turned around and looked at her when she said that.
OTWO - interesting comments. The 15 minutes has secretly lowered the bar a lot, and brought numbers back up. Good point. I agree with you on the lawsuits and such. It's surprising nothing big has popped up recently, as big as the organization is. I think it's overdue.

Interesting observations. Thanks.
