after 180 days... this is what a mcdonalds "happy meal" looks like... .
sally davies, 54, a new york artist, decided to embark on the idea of photographing food everyday for a couple of months.
her idea was brought about by what she read concerning a teacher using a hamburger that hadnt decayed as a sample to her students in one of the lessons she was teaching.

something burn linked to on the thread about gender equality got me to thinking.. the statement was made that it is mostly the woman who is in charge of the family budget, and she knows instinctively that you can't spend your way out of debt.. i know that, but this basic fact seems lost on some.. for example, i see my oldest daughter making financial blunder after financial blunder.. she has, in effect, told me to stay out of her business, yet it is i to whom she comes begging for help when her money goes south.. my maternal g'mother, who lived to the age of 104, had a favorite saying: "root, hog, or stay poor.
swim or sink.".
i've decided to let her stay poor or sink - whichever comes first.. syl.
is it more of a generation than gender thing? the older generations who have seen poor times know how to make do. Kids today who may be experiencing their first recession (ahhh bless) want everything now.
I hear a lot about young people on the radio who can't afford to get on the housing ladder and buy their first home. They still drive a nearly new car, go on holiday and have the latest gadgets. I had one takeaway a year till I saved up a deposit for a house (those were hard times). The only way to learn is the hard way. Being tough on them is a kindness in the long run (jeez I'm sounding like my dad - I take it all back - SPEND SPEND SPEND!).

how they're feeling, coping?.
well, do you?.
thanks to those who respond.. syl.
I try and picture some of you. The good avatars really help as I'm a visual person although would find it way easier if I could meet you. Most of the names are truly memorable - although I don't think mine relates to me really.
Yes I care about people here even when I don't see them write anything for a while - I'm a very feeling person. I tend to hide it because I need to be very professional where business is concerned. I think about people on JWN - those who I have had interaction with maybe more so. That has depended on when people were logged on. I find everything tends to hot up at certain times and especially at the weekends. I'm rarely around then so interact a lot less with many of you.
MMXIV will now be mmxiv to show he cares

I don't know most of you because I haven't gone back to read all your stories. Every now and then I do and I'm amazed at what you've been put through. I have no way of showing how I care other than thinking about what people write and sometimes adding a useful comment.
The only way I know if someone is having a tough time is if they write it down like with Lady Lee and her accident.
I care when people suffer or when they have a cigar moment. Don't stop sharing those things.

lets see who gets closer to the number.
bets will end when the new yearbook is ready (when is that?).
i say 11000.
There has been a 24% increase in 3 years in memorial partakers.
2006: 8,758
2009: 10,857
If the number of publishers and partakers continue to grow at their same rates then in a little over 120 years the WTS will have to come up with some new light to explain there being more partakers than publishers. That will be the point when bible studies or worldlies can have a sip & nibble and all the Bethel facilities would switch to making wine & bread.

PS I guess 11,300
i'm 19 and trying to get a job.
my dad won't pay for my college if i don't pioneer.. if i get a job, i can't pioneer while in college.. i can supposedly work and study, but i need a good way to get rid of pioneering (it was never my idea in the first place - blame the parents with their social coercion).. if i stop pioneering, i will be told by my parents that i don't love jehovah (not that i care what they say).. how can i do this as painlessly as possible?.
i want to move out someday and have enough money to do this.. by the way, if you read my started topics you will see my situation in more detail and that my dad is the coordinator of the boe..
this is won't be a painless thing to say but may get them off your back more quickly...
"I need to get a qualification from college that will put me in a better position to pioneer in the longer term. To do this I need to pay for college which will require I work full time and as a result I will have to come off pioneering temporarily. I know we are in the last days of the last days but I have prayed long and hard about this and now confident that Jah has given me the answer.
I will really miss pioneering so this will be hard to do, but as soon as I complete college I will be in a more stable position. I also found the following publications really helpful: cite a few WT from the 90's that suggest that some qualifications may be required.
I really hope that you support me in this decision because I want to be as successful as I can at college so I get get back to pioneering as soon as I can - I really don't want to have to repeat a year or anything."
Is there an older, well respected pioneer that you can talk to who will conceed that you may benefit from improving your financial position now to help you pioneer in the longer term? Anyone you can get to see your point of view and then quote them and say you've made your mind up?
Good luck - you are doing the right thing. I gave up pioneering, got a job, eventually went to college and now living in great house in a great area and doing the things I want to do - it is worth it.

PS. just before you finish college, move out of home and never go back to pioneering.
so my sister calls me and proceeds to tell me all about everything going on in her life.
all about her job and her apartment search.
tells me about my nephews demonstration at the ca this past weekend.
Totally understand how frustrating it must be. Your sister is allowed to talk about what she thinks is a success but won't acknowledge your's and instead tries to run it down? You phoned her back - show's who is the mature one.
I grew up with ignorance about martial arts. I now have several friends who teach martial arts and am aware that it can do a great deal of good for those who make the effort to learn. I have seen each of these people in incredibly stressful situations and they never lost their cool or resorted to violence as the JW cliche's would have suggested.
Congratulations! That IS an accomplishment.

to arrive at their conclusions, the researchers conducted studies at mit's center for collective intelligence and carnegie mellon, in which 699 people were placed in groups of two to five.
the groups worked together on tasks that ranged from visual puzzles to negotiations, brainstorming, games and complex rule-based design assignments.
the researchers concluded that a group's collective intelligence accounted for about 40 percent of the variation in performance on this wide range of tasks.
At what point will women form a greater role in the WTS. Seriously?

okay, i wanted to know more about the jws, so i went to the website and filled in my name and other info.
i was finally contacted, set up an appointment and visited.
the first two people came and they were nice, but one of the fellows looked uptight and avoided eye contact.
Sadly I was one of 95% of JW's who couldn't debate anything on the bible, but was considered a bright young prospect with lot's of hours on reports to prove I was spiritual.
Hope you find your answers, but despite 3 decades of training I count myself out of being able to help.
