Shunning Rules Changed Again
by Amazing insometime ago the faq at jw-media stated that if one "simply ceases to be involved, they are not shunned.
" ... now, the wording has changed to allow a broader position, one that could include even many more former jws, and "maybe" become the basis whereby they could argue that they are not apostate: do you shun former members?
those who simply leave the faith are not shunned.

Can anyone think of any other catagories?
Yeah, what about those, like myself who never took the dip? I was a dub all my life, never got baptized tho, and walked away. Now since I never really made the truth my own, how can they shun me? But oh don't worry, they do their christian duty and make sure to never look me in the eye.

Losing their best--Getting rid of good elders
by VeniceIT inin january of this year, a prominent elder resigned because he was criticized for continuing to talk to an inactive couple, who had been very close friends.
this couple are being gossiped about, as being apostates, although no action has been taken, and no announcement.
he didn't like the scrutiny on himself and his wife, and thought they were wrong to talk to him about this issue, so he resigned.

Wow Venice thank you for sharing! This is a great example of stupid the borg can be. I've always said that inspite of what JW's teach, there are still good people within the organization, but if the borg keeps this up, that may no longer be true. Only the whack-jobs that make up these half-assed regulations, pedophiles, and those who protect them will be left on the inside. And then I will be free to hate them all...hahaha!

A Silent Ram
by DakotaRed inthis is probably going to be the most difficult thing i have ever written.
but, since i dont plan on being around [here] much longer, what the hell?
for some time now, we have discussed and expressed our outrage and horror at child molestation.

Dakota, Thank you so much for sharing your story! I know that took a lot of courage to share something so personal on such a public forum.
I am so glad you did speak out tho! A friend of mine was molested by an older woman in his neighborhood, ever since I met him and heard his story I have always felt that the molestation that occurs to young boys does not get the same attention as that of girls being abused. Thank you thank you thank you for coming forward and sharing. I think if more people like yourself came forward to talk it could do wonders for this issue that so rarely gets talked about.
I also loved your point that molestors are not just JW's. I think on this board we sometimes forget that it is a worldwide epidemic that knows no religious, national, socio-economic, racial boundaries.
Very well written too, by the way...thanks so much again!

Can JWs attend other churches?
by SusanHere ini have an odd situation that came up during a recent visit by my long-time jw sister.
on sunday she agreed to attend our meetings (lds) with us "to see how other churches do things".
i was totally blown away.

I think it is up to the individual. "Making the Truth Your Own" and all that crap you know. How can they make it their own unless you let them shop around. HOWEVER--I don't think they really encourage people to go to other churches. I know for a fact I was not encouraged, but I went anyway, and dealt with questions later. I know it bugged my parents, but they knew I was all about gathering as much experience as possible and they are used to that by now from me. However we kept it hush hush from people in the KH because they did not approve at all.
While I don't think there is a doctrine that explicitly says: "Thou shalt not go to another church" It's pretty commonly thought of "Why would you want to? We have True Worship right here." And I think those that do go investigate probably catch a lot of flack about it.

Feeling depressed
by truthseeker1 inits weird...i was feeling fine all day and then all of a sudden i just feel depressed.. i'm wondering if i made a mistake divorcing my wife.
i know i made a right decision leaving the wt, but just wonder if i should have stuck it out with her.
not that she wanted me or anything, thats the main reason why i left.

You're not alone. I think everyone goes through their "what if" moments, even on a daily basis. It's painful to live in the past, so I hope eventually your pain will fade. But until then you have all of us! We'll be here for ya!
By the by, my e-mail is in my profile if you ever want to chat. Or if you just want to hook up for some Apostate-lovin!

Useless Drama Pictures
by Matty indo any of you good people of jw.com remember going to a district convention and hearing that little announcement the chairman would make before the bible-drama started?.
it generally went like this: "please remain seated during the drama and please do not obstruct other peoples view if using recording equipment such as camcorders" and he would also say "please do not use flash photography because it distracts others and is of little use.".
they made such a fuss anyone would think we were all going to witness the second coming of christ, floating down on his chariot onto the field!

They had postcards??
Obviously before my time...curious...were they to send to your shunned family members so they could be moved by the holy spirit in postal form to repent and seek out the Truth?
