Panda-as for accessories, i would get a couple of memory cards, (They are cheaper if you buy them in a two pack) and if she has friends over and they are playing games and such I would get one extra controller so they can play against each other. Since she is only 11, I wouldn't get the DVD remote...it won't be that important to her at first to have that...

It depends on the person you are buying for really...
I would say 7-13 Game Cube--family friendly games, and now only 100 bucks. Can't play DVDs on them tho, so that's kinda a bummer.
PS2, By far the popular game console. You can play all your PS1 games on it too, a lot more titles, but honestly--the extra titles aren't that great. Any really HUGE titles are going to be released on all three platforms. The graphics are not up to the same level as X-Box as some others have pointed out. Another thing to consider, you have to buy memory cards (X-box has a hard drive) to save everything, and external modem for online gaming. PS2 I would say is most popular with the 14 and up, but definately teens, and casual to intermediate gamers.
X-Box (In my experience working in a gaming store) is most popular with college age players and up especially techie types. People who love to play computer games naturally gravitate to Microsoft. Not as big a catalog as PS2, however, like I said, they have all the really huge titles that get released to all the games. It will just take time for them to release more titles.
Again, all of this is kind of based on the customers I have worked with the past year at my job. I get asked this question all the time PS2 is your safest bet, unless you have a techie computer lover...then would go XBOX for sure.

Some advise for a stranger to JWs
by Llama inyeah, i'm a different thinker, floating between budhist and spiritualist ideas, and jw seems so rigid to me, i was quite shocked to read up on it.
unfortunately i have a question for you which i am dreading to ask, as i suspect the answer wont be one i wish to hear.. i have recently fallen for a girl, she is, well her parents are strictly jw as far as i understand, she follows this but has not been baptised yet.
i know she really likes me too, but i am not a witness, and i doubt i ever could be.

I am not sure how far your relationship has progressed, some mentioned her as a girlfriend, are you two at that level or just thinking of taking it there based on mutual attraction?
If at all possible (again not sure how far you've walked down the relationship path) stay at the friend level a while. She could be looking for a way out. A non-jw boyfriend provides such an out. But it's not the right way to go if she really wants out.
Be there for her, explain to her there are other ways to view the world we live in besides through a JW lens.
I wouldn't push the relationship, that is just too much pressure. And if she does leave the JW's it's for a worldly boy and they preach against that until they are blue in the face. In which case, god forbid, you two break up--they were right all along, and you were a horrible worldly guy who lured her away and all that tripe. It's bogus, we all may know that--but before you know it she is lulled back in.
I guess I am jumping 15 steps down the line. First things first ask her what she really wants--you out of the picture--does she want to be done with being a JW...then help her achieve that then work on a relationship.
If she wants to stay a JW--you had better leave things alone and not persue a relationship, because no good will come of it for either of you.
I wish you much luck.

I am into dorks in a big way.
Not nerds, nor geeks. Only dorks.
Nerds are far too smart for me. Geeks have no social skills. But a good dork is smart, but not too smart, and goofy--but not socially inept. Usually bookish and shy, the dork is often introspective and most comfortable in a dark out of the way corner so as not to draw too much attention to certain dorkly attributes.
Freaks are right out.
I guess considering I am a major dork, I am drawn to people like me. People who can find the humor in everything, laid back, and are lulled into submission by rotating sparkle-type objects.

Dallas Apostafest Pics!
by cruzanheart inokay, i'll start it off!
it was a fun weekend -- on friday night we had a fairly quiet (for us) gathering at xenawarrier's and lauralisa's hotel room with hors d'oeuvres and then a nice dinner at gloria's.
saturday was lunch at sonny bryan's bbq and then off to get some culture at the dallas museum of art.

News report on Sydney, Australia JW convention: all is well in JW-land?
by Gopher inso glad this convention will "dispel myths" regarding the j-dubs, and that they won't baptize anyone too young, only 11-year-olds and up!!
isn't it great?

converts will be aged between 11 and 80.
Right because 11 year olds are so much better at making up their minds
